## Page One

**1.** *Kopitam. Morning. Wide — the recurring establishing angle. Three shops under one iron shade, gravel out front, the bandi's patch empty because it's before noon. Wooden benches. Wet glasses on a tray.*

Caption *(narration)*: Nobody assigned the seats. They just hardened.

**2.** *Same wide, closer. The bench order, drawn for the first time and never explained: **Suraj · Kicha · [gap] · Anudeep · Aishwarya.** Jay isn't here. The gap is where he sits.*

**3.** *The Chai Man's hands. Kettle, pour, five glasses, no words. He started pouring when he saw them at the gate.*

S.F.X: *shhhhh—*

**4.** *Kirana Uncle in his doorway, permanently seated, glasses on a string, school notebook open on his knee. He writes something. Nobody sees what.*

**5.** *And behind him, in the dark of the kirana kottu, the thing this episode is about: an **iron safe.** Old Godrej, olive green, rust at the seams, a dial nobody remembers the numbers to.*

**6.** *Anudeep, mid-chai, notices it properly for the first time.*

**Anudeep:** Adi… ekkada nunchi vachindi?

**Kirana Uncle** *(not looking up)*: Adi ikkade undi. Ekkadi nunchi ravaledu.

**7.** *Suraj, expansively, delivering colony history he is not qualified to deliver.*

**Suraj:** Muppai samvatsaralu ra. Muppai. Adi kadapaledu evaru.

**Suraj:** Shop kattinappudu **safe** mundu pettaru. Godalu tarvata kattaru.

**8.** *Beat. All four look at the safe. Then at the doorway, which is visibly narrower than the safe.*

**Anudeep:** …appudu adi ela bayataki vachhindi?

**Suraj:** Radu. **Ade point.**

**9.** *Kicha, who has not spoken for four panels, puts down his glass. Sunglasses on. Completely calm.*

**Kicha:** Nenu ethuthanu.

**10.** *Nobody reacts. Suraj continues a different conversation. Anudeep checks his phone. This is the joke — **they don't even register it as a claim.***

**11.** *Kicha, patiently, again.*

**Kicha:** Nenu. **Ethuthanu.** Aa safe.

**12.** *Now they hear it. Suraj turns very slowly with the expression of a man being handed a gift.*

**Suraj:** …malli cheppu ra.

**13.** *Aishwarya, without looking up from a brochure, doing arithmetic she didn't ask to do.*

**Aishwarya:** Adi rendu vandala kilo undochu. Minimum.

**Kicha:** Nenu ethuthanu.

**Aishwarya:** Nenu adi cheppaledu ra. Nenu **bharuvu** cheppanu.

**14.** *Anudeep has already opened a note app. He is doing this sincerely.*

**Anudeep:** Okay so — grip height, floor friction, aa gravel lo footing ledu—

**15.** *Suraj stands up. This is the most alive he has been all week.*

**Suraj:** **Pandem.** *(A bet.)*

**16.** *Wide. Four people, one safe, and a morning that has just found its purpose.*

Caption *(narration)*: It was nine-forty. Nobody had anywhere to be, which was the whole problem.

# ▸ Act Two — the Jinx · panels 17 to 40

**17.** *The Honda Shine pulls up on the gravel. Jay gets off — night shift finished, shirt creased, moving slowly. He does not ask what is happening.*

S.F.X: *crunch crunch crunch*

**18.** *He sits in the gap on the bench. It is exactly his size. Nobody moves to make room because nobody has to.*

**19.** *Suraj, immediately, laying out the case for the prosecution.*

**Suraj:** Jay. Veedu aa safe ethuthadanta.

**20.** *Jay looks at the safe. Looks at Kicha. Drinks his chai. And says, flatly, without any of the drama the moment deserves:*

**Jay:** Ethuthadu.

**21.** *Suraj and Anudeep, turning on him with identical outrage.*

**Suraj:** Ledu ra!

**Anudeep:** Ledu ra!

*Beat. They have said the exact same two words, in the exact same tone, at the exact same instant.*

**22.** *Silence at the bench. Everyone hears it happen.*

**23.** *And Kicha — who has been waiting his entire life for a moment of this shape — does not hesitate.*

**Kicha:** **Jinx.**

**24.** *Suraj and Anudeep, frozen mid-breath. Aishwarya lowers the brochure for the first time in the episode. This is now considerably more interesting than the safe.*

**25.** *Suraj opens his mouth.*

**26.** *Kicha's finger comes up. One finger. No words needed.*

**27.** *Suraj closes his mouth. Then, immediately, points at Anudeep and then at himself and then makes a gesture that clearly means* **"both of us? or one?"**

**28.** *Kicha, serenely, the lawgiver.*

**Kicha:** Iddaru. Rules ivi.

**Kicha:** Peru pilichina varaku maata ledu. Maatladithe — **debba.**

**29.** *Aishwarya, instantly, because this is the actual fight:*

**Aishwarya:** Debba ante **chempa** ra. Always chempa.

**Suraj *(pointing frantically at his own arm)*: —!

**30.** *Kicha translates, deadpan.*

**Kicha:** Vaadu "gilluthundi" antunnadu. *(Pinch.)*

**Aishwarya:** Gillu **chinnapillala** ki.

**31.** *Kicha, drawing himself up:*

**Kicha:** Ee intlo standard **gudda.** Punch. Bicep meeda. Adi rule.

**Aishwarya:** Evaru pettaru aa rule?

**Kicha:** …traditional ga vasthundi.

**32.** *Anudeep, mute, raises a hand like a student. Everyone ignores him.*

**33.** *And here is the thing the episode is really about, and it arrives quietly in a corner of a loud panel.*

*Close on Anudeep. Mouth shut. Not straining. Not frustrated.*

*He looks — for the first time in five episodes — completely at ease.*

Caption (Anudeep): Oh.

Caption (Anudeep): This is easier.

**34.** *Aishwarya notices. Only her. She doesn't say anything, but her eyes stay on him one beat too long.*

**35.** *The argument roars on around them — Suraj miming furiously, Kicha ruling on procedure, Kirana Uncle writing something in the notebook.*

**36.** *Aishwarya, still watching Anudeep, quietly, to nobody:*

**Aishwarya:** …vaadiki idi **nachindi.**

**37.** *The bet gets formalised, because Suraj cannot speak and therefore must gesture, which makes everything worse and longer.*

*Suraj holds up: two fingers. A flat palm. A circle. A pointing motion at the safe.*

**Kicha:** Rendu vandalu?

*Suraj nods violently.*

**Kicha:** Nenu ethithe nuvvu rendu vandalu istav?

*Suraj nods.*

**Kicha:** Ethakapothe?

**38.** *Suraj makes a gesture. It is unambiguous and cannot be printed.*

**39.** *Kirana Uncle, without looking up, without being asked, writes it in the notebook. The bet is now on the colony's permanent record.*

**Kirana Uncle:** Raasanu.

**40.** *Kicha stands and takes his sunglasses off. Which he never does.*

Caption *(narration)*: That was the first thing anyone should have noticed. Nobody did.

# ▸ Act Three — the Lift · panels 41 to 52

**41.** *Kicha squares up to the safe. He doesn't posture. He doesn't announce. He crouches, feels along the bottom edge with his fingers, and finds the lip.*

**42.** *And behind him, the argument continues at full volume and has now completely detached from him:*

**Aishwarya:** —ledu, jinx **transferable** kaadu ra—

**Kicha's Voice** *(off, from the safe)*: Transfer avuthundi.

**Aishwarya:** Nuvvu jinx lo levu, nuvvu **maatladakku**—

**43.** *Suraj, desperate, mute, tugging Aishwarya's sleeve and pointing at Kicha, trying to make somebody watch.*

**44.** *Nobody watches. Aishwarya is mid-argument. Anudeep is being asked to arbitrate by gesture and is enjoying his silence too much to intervene.*

**45.** *Kicha's hands. Set. Knuckles white on rusted iron.*

**46.** *His back. The lean, muscular build that has been in every panel of this series and that nobody has ever remarked on.*

**47.** *Wide, from behind him — the safe in the foreground, and beyond it the entire bench mid-shouting-match, all four faces turned away.*

**48.** *Close on Jay.*

*Jay is not arguing. Jay has not moved. Jay is looking directly at Kicha, and has been for some time.*

**49.** *the Lift. Full panel. Kicha rises. The safe comes off the floor — not far. Four inches. Maybe five.*

*It is enough. Thirty years of contact with that patch of ground, broken.*

S.F.X: *…hnnnnGH—*

**50.** *A clean rectangle of pale, undisturbed floor where the safe has always been. Dust outline. A dead lizard. A one-rupee coin from a currency that no longer looks like that.*

**51.** *Kicha holds it for three full seconds.*

*In the background of the same panel, out of focus, Aishwarya and Kicha's own camera on the bench — pointed at the argument. Pointed at the bench. Pointed entirely the wrong way.*

**52.** *He sets it down. Carefully. Almost gently. It settles into a slightly different place than it has ever been.*

# ▸ Act Four — the Witness · panels 53 to 64

**53.** *Kicha turns around, breathing hard, hands shaking, face open — the least guarded he has ever looked.*

**54.** *Wide. Nobody is looking at him.*

*Aishwarya is holding Suraj's wrist to stop him gesturing. Anudeep is writing something on a napkin. The Chai Man is pouring. Kirana Uncle is writing.*

*The argument about the jinx has become an argument about who started the argument.*

**55.** *Close on Kicha's face as the moment passes through him. He doesn't say anything. He doesn't announce it. Something in his shoulders comes down.*

**56.** *He picks up his sunglasses from the bench and puts them back on.*

**57.** *And Jay says one word. Not loudly. It cuts the whole bench anyway.*

**Jay:** **Anudeep.**

**58.** *Anudeep's jinx breaks. He can speak. Everyone turns — because a name was said, and that's the only rule anybody actually agreed on.*

**59.** *Anudeep, released, and the first thing out of his mouth is not what anyone expected:*

**Anudeep:** Vaadu ethesadu.

*Beat.*

**Anudeep:** Nenu chusanu. Kannu ardha nunchi. Vaadu **ethesadu ra.**

**60.** *Silence. Everyone turns to look at the safe — which is sitting four inches from its dust outline, and has been for ninety seconds, and nobody noticed.*

**61.** *Suraj, still jinxed, still mute, staring at the dust outline with his hands on his head. This is the worst thing that has ever happened to him.*

**62.** *Kirana Uncle, without looking up, closes the notebook.*

**Kirana Uncle:** Rendu vandalu. Suraj account lo raasanu.

**63.** *And Kicha — who has spent five episodes needing to be believed — does the one thing nobody predicts. He doesn't gloat. He doesn't demand a replay. He sits back down in his place on the bench and picks up his cold chai.*

*Jay, beside him, without turning his head:*

**Jay:** Nenu choosanu.

*Beat.*

**Kicha:** Telusu.

**64.** *Wide — the recurring Kopitam angle, closing the episode where it opened. Five on the bench now, the gap filled. The bandi wheeling in behind them because it's finally evening. The safe sitting slightly, permanently, wrong.*

*Nobody mentions it again.*

Caption *(narration)*: The safe stayed where he put it.

Caption *(narration)*: Kirana Uncle never moved it back, and never said why.

# 🫙 End Gag — "the jar"

**G.1.** *Boys H.Q, that night. The four of them on the floor. One pickle jar of coffee going round.*

**G.2.** *It reaches Suraj. He takes it. He opens his mouth to say something.*

**G.3.** *Three hands come up at once. Stop.*

**Aishwarya:** Nee peru evaru pilavaledu ra.

**G.4.** *Suraj's face. He had genuinely forgotten. It has been eleven hours.*

**G.5.** *Wide. Suraj holding the pickle jar with both hands, drinking in absolute silence, eyes murderous over the rim.*

*And in the corner of the panel, unremarked, Anudeep — mouth also shut, also un-named, and entirely happy about it.*

# 🎬 Post-credit Stinger — "the Handwriting"

*4 panels · after the episode*

**S.1.** *Boys H.Q, later. Empty and quiet. A hand reaches into frame and straightens the chart paper on the wall.*

**S.2.** *Close on the poster. Aishwarya's own block letters — **Keep it Clean** — and beneath them, the small neat second line she didn't write: *adigithe cheptha. Just ask.**

**S.3.** *Aishwarya, alone in the dark hall, looking at that second line. She isn't puzzled. She knows exactly whose hand it is — she has known this handwriting since she was nine years old.*

**Aishwarya** *(quietly, to nobody)*: …idi Jay raasindi.

*A beat. Something crosses her face that the reader can't place yet.*

**Aishwarya:** Inka **ade** raasthav ra.

**S.4.** *She lets go of the poster. Crosses the dark flat. Goes over the balcony rail and is gone.*

*The poster stays on the wall. Two hands, two lines, twenty years apart.*

### Why this Episode Exists

**It pays a debt the character sheet has been carrying since Ep 1.** Kicha has been described as *"lean and noticeably muscular — the one who can actually lift things, which nobody expects because he's the clown."* That has never once been used. This episode uses it, and makes the *not being expected* the point rather than the joke.

**The Recognition arc gets its cruellest and best beat.** Kicha doesn't fail. He succeeds completely — and the room's attention is elsewhere, on a rule fight he himself started. He engineered the distraction that cost him the witness. Nobody needs to say that; the reader will feel it.

**And it repairs the Kicha↔Jay dyad**, flagged in the research as one joke repeated. Here Jay backs him before the attempt (*"ethuthadu"*), watches when nobody else does, and confirms it afterwards in three words. Two lines total. The pair stops being a gag.
