1. What is an Enterprise?

An enterprise (or business in general terms) is any organization, or activity created to produce goods or provide services in order to make money or, sometimes, to meet a social need).
In short: It is the economic entity in action. It can range from a small corner shop run by a single person to a multinational corporation.

2. What is the Structure of a Business?

Although it varies by size, the classic structure of a business is divided into specific areas or departments to keep everything running smoothly:
- Management / Administration: The ones who make the major decisions and steer the ship.
• Finance and Accounting: The ones who control the money, pay the bills, and handle the bookkeeping, budgets, petty cash, etcetera
- Production / Operations: The ones who directly make the product or provide the service.
• Sales and Marketing: The ones in charge of selling and advertising.
• Human Resources: The ones who hire and take care of the staff.

3. What is a Corporation?

Legally speaking, a company or corporation is a formal legal term. It is the union of two or more people called partners or shareholders, who sign a contract to create a brand-new entity before the law, a legal entity, to do business together.
In simple terms: The company is the "legal dress" or the partnership agreement that the partners use to operate a business.

4. What is the Structure of a Corporation/Company?

Since it is a formal legal entity, its structure is defined by commercial laws and is based on ownership:
• Shareholders' / Partners' Meeting: The assembly of the business owners. They hold the ultimate power because they provided the capital.
- Board of Directors: A group elected by the shareholders to oversee the business and ensure it is doing well.
- Legal Representative / C.E.O (General Manager): The person appointed to sign contracts and be legally responsible for the company before the government and other businesses.

5. What are the Functions of a Business and a Corporation?

In practice, both serve very similar purposes because they both operate in the market, but we can divide them like this:
Functions of the Business (Economic & Operational):
• Production: Turning raw materials or ideas into products/services.
Commercial: Delivering those products or services to the final customer.
• Social: Creating jobs and paying wages.
Functions of the Corporation/Company (Legal & Financial):
- Legal Protection (Limited Liability): Separating the owners' personal assets from the business's money. If the company goes into debt, the owners do not lose their personal homes or cars.
• Attracting Capital: Allowing new partners to join easily by selling "shares."
- Formal Compliance: Registering the business under strict government regulations and commercial registries.

6. What is the Difference Between a Business and a Corporation/Company?

This is where many people get confused, but the difference is conceptual and legal:
Table summary: The table distinguishes between a business or enterprise and a corporation or company, highlighting that the former focuses on economic activity and practical operations while the latter emphasizes the legal structure and formal partnerships.
A simple example:
If you decide to open your own business tomorrow by yourself, you have a business (empresa), but you do not have a company (compañía) because you are on your own.
If you partner with a friend and sign a legal document to create a Limited Liability Company (Srl) or a Corporation (S.A), then you have founded a company to operate that business.
You have reached the end of the document.
