Preface This book details the methods of suicide in great detail. This book is not a report on the records of frequent suicides, nor is it intended to explain the reasons behind suicide. Although it can be read as a miscellaneous book, the entire direction of the book is towards "how to commit suicide."
The lengthy Introduction may have already bored you. For how long has the topic "Why do young people turn to death?" been repeatedly discussed? Back in the 1970s, the conclusions drawn were "nihilism," "unhappy generation," and so on. However, questions like "Why can't one commit suicide?" and "Why must one live?" have never been answered.
To get to the point, what is needed now is a book that can make "suicide" a reality.
To get to the point, what is near a reality. Regarding such a book, "Methods of Suicide," published ten years ago, merely wrote some trivial content that was extremely tedious. What should be known now is the pure method of suicide. In the United States, there is only one device for assisted suicide, which was invented by a scholar. (Case 30) This book will be the only "suicide device using language as a tool" in Japan. Speaking of this, I would like to immediately introduce the method of suicide by taking medicine. However, in order to clarify the question "Why commit suicide now?" and for various commercial reasons, I must first write some miscellaneous things.
Chernobyl
.....I am waiting for the right moment, preparing to "make a grand appearance." Twenty years ago, during the student riots, everyone thought "a remarkable figure is about to appear!" Apollo landed on the moon, the oil crisis, the Soviet invasion of a certain country, the Showa era was about to end, and I thought "this action will be earth-shattering." However, it was only a magnitude 3 tremor, just knocking down a wall. The students looked at each other and laughed, saying "That was great!" and the event came to an end. .....(Excerpt from the postscript of "Rimei" by Shizuka Sho)
At the end of the 1980s, there was a wave of "apocalypse" and "dangerous topics." The most popular band sang songs about C H E R N O B Y L, and children's jokes were filled with the flavor of death. Young girls began to look for companions in preparation for the impending world war. We were excited about "a remarkable figure is about to appear!" and "maybe tomorrow will be the end of the world!"
However, the apocalypse did not come. The atomic bomb never exploded, and the dream of a full-scale nuclear war has long since vanished without a trace. The revolutionaries of the 1980s thoroughly experienced a sense of frustration.
In the end, everyone finally understood that "making a grand appearance" is impossible, and the (Of course, the twenty-first century is about to arrive, as there will be no so-called world war.) The world will absolutely not come to an end. It is just that we slightly encounter the "other world" and "the outside," and cannot find satisfaction. If we hope for greater stimulation, if we truly wish for the world to come to an end, it can only be achieved by doing "that thing."
A Long Vacation
Saying something is "boring and tedious" is of no use—because we are unfortunate enough to be born on this stage of history.
Until the twenty-second century, we will wake up every morning at seven o'clock, then go to school or work, repeatedly saying some meaningless things. At school, we will incessantly memorize English vocabulary and historical dates; at the company, we will talk about things that are "extremely boring," yet we will engage in truly tedious work over the course of weeks, months, and even years, on a weekly, monthly, and yearly basis.
As the most advanced products emerge at a slow pace, politicians continue to engage in corruption at a slow pace, and the content on television continues to be exciting at a slow pace. However, when the television is turned off and one looks around, it is just another ordinary day. (Awakening to "the wonderful darkness after turning off the television" is another goal of this book.)
In his autobiographical novel "Confessions of a Mask," Yukio Mishima mentions: "Daily life" is more In order to bring about an inexplicable "stability for the future." Step by step along the way, cautiously avoiding any deviation in direction.
There is no comedic ending like that of a television drama. Instead, the strange "joy" continues at a slow and steady pace.
Yes! The key phrases are "slow pace" and "repeatedly." The continuous, slow repetition of the same things; this is the primary factor that inflates the desire to die.
Another Brick in the Wall
In 1978, Japan experienced an incident known as the "Paper Maze Suicide Incident."
Two high school twin sisters living in Toyama Prefecture, Japan, were found hanged in the wood On one person's notebook, there is a maze pattern drawn with four straight lines and several horizontal lines intersecting each other (a game of finding the source along the lines). Below the pattern, the words "Japanese X," "suicide," "R.O.S," and "the three families" are written, which are incomprehensible to others. The lines drawn above lead directly to the word "suicide." Since her parents could not figure out the motive for their suicide, the conclusion is that the two committed suicide because of the "maze." It is said that "R.O.S" might refer to the Rolling Stones. Since there are also words like "Japanese X" and "hate Asians" written above, it is uncertain if this is related. However, the meaning of these words remains elusive.
Once upon a time, a judge said, "A person's life is heavier than the Earth." However, this is a completely Once upon a time, I worthless misunderstanding. Just as two high school girls in the 1970s had already realized, a person's life is very light, as light as "Japanese X" and "R.O.S."
In the late 1950s, American sociologists said, "The masses are like powerless atoms." In the late 1970s, a British rock band sang, "We are just a brick in the wall." It became very popular. Even as we entered the 1990s, this situation in Japan remained unchanged.
Like old times, we are still a brick in the wall—evidence being that if any one of us dies, someone will surely come to take their place. No one's existence is irreplaceable.
There is no politician who is significant enough to be assassinated. Without at least one brick, the wall will not collapse. Each of us is filled with a sense of helplessness, and it doesn't matter whether we exist or not. In other words, life is light; this is the second factor that inflates the desire to die.
Clockwork Orange
With this sense of powerlessness, we slowly and repeatedly do the same things, gradually forgetting the "true feeling of being alive." We have almost forgotten whether we are alive or dead. Do you feel that you are "alive"? Now, between life and death, there is only a line so thin that it is almost invisible.
Therefore, phrases like "Life is important, so one must not commit suicide," "As long as you can live, there will always be opportunities," and "Because the people around you will be sad, you must live," have been cast into the cold palace, losing all persuasive power. Effective words to prevent suicide have disappeared; signals guiding towards suicide have emerged.
Yes, it is okay to die. If going to work or school is very uncomfortable, boring, or even painful, one can seek death by crossing that almost invisible line, and no one can stop it.
As mentioned before, anyway, living will not change anything. Although it does not have any special functions, one can generally know what kind of things will happen in the future society or to oneself. "The future! The future!" No matter how persuasive this phrase is, it is useless. Your life is probably spent attending elementary and middle school in your birthplace, going to cram schools to study for entrance exams, then entering a high school or university, muddling through for four years before starting to work at some company. For men, it is getting married in their twenties or thirties, having children the following year, experiencing several job changes or promotions, reaching a managerial position at most, retiring at sixty, and then living a life enjoying their interests for another ten or twenty years before dying. That's about it. Moreover, what is despairing is that this is the ideal life that gives people the most peace of mind.
In such circumstances, living ordinarily no longer holds significant meaning. If not living now, perhaps it is just like a tender chicken used for roasting, "being given life to live." Therefore, putting a stop to life at the appropriate place is not a matter of "sadness that never ends," "it won't happen a second time," or "worrying about ripple effects."
Suicide is a rather proactive behavior.
Angel Dust
I have a friend who has a substance called "angel dust." After consuming it, the mind becomes hazy, and it is a powerful drug that allows one to jump from high buildings without a care. It is stored in a small metal pouch, made into a necklace, and always carried on his person. He says, "When necessary, I can take this to seek death." My friend does not have a fixed job and spends his days idly, living very happily.
I hope this book can become that metal pouch necklace.

Taking Medicines
Medications Medications Pain _ _ Trouble ▼▼▼▼ Connection ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ Shock ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ Lethality ▼V.V.V.V If successful, taking medicine is the best method of suicide. However, there are many cases of failed suicide attempts, and the preparation time is a major issue; the degree of pain varies depending on the medication.
Medication
On the table are scattered capsules and tablets in various colors such as red, yellow, and blue, or a small pile of snow-white powder. When these are swallowed, one will slowly fall asleep and never wake up again. This is death on the extended line of peaceful sleep, the most ideal method of suicide, and it is a means that can only be realized through medication.
Some medications control the brain. The brain is the control device for the self-organizing system. Whether it is respiratory function or heartbeats, all functions that maintain the system are controlled by the brain.
It should be noted that through medication, this control device gradually loses coordination, which is a technique used to destroy the entire "self" system. This can also be described as a method of self-administered brain tissue removal surgery.
A medication that is not lethal is not considered a medication.
No matter what medication, there is basically a "therapeutic dose," a "toxic dose," and a "lethal dose." Some experts say, "A medication that is not lethal is not considered a medication." Any medication has the potential to be lethal. However, the difference between the therapeutic dose and the lethal dose is quite large; to reach the lethal dose, one must ingest a considerable amount, which is relatively difficult to control. Nowadays, the gap for medications has been relaxed, in other words, they are considered safe medications. What I will introduce here are those with a smaller gap.
However, the issue lies in the "lethal dose." The standard for the dosage of medications discussed in this book is based on the lethal doses of various medications as recorded in different literature, but these can vary greatly, and the range can differ significantly. At the same time, the lethal dose can vary greatly depending on an individual's constitution and whether they frequently take medication, leading to cases where someone who overdoses significantly is saved, while someone who takes a small amount dies.
The "lethal dose," which should determine the boundary between life and death, can sometimes fail to be lethal due to differences in dosage, range of variation, and individual differences. Thus, some researchers suggest that if you really want to die, you should take three times the lethal dose. In this way, the lethal dose no longer represents the "amount that causes death." This book temporarily...
The amount between the minimum and maximum is referred to as the "lethal dose" (the amounts are for adults unless otherwise specified), this is merely a general standard. The ambiguity of this lethal dose not only indicates the blurred line between life and death but is also the main reason that makes drug-induced suicide difficult. However, there is more to say here. Simply cutting a slit in the wrist will not lead to death, but the drugs mentioned here will indeed cause death if taken. If one merely wants to experience the taste of suicide (which is not necessarily a bad thing), it is better to cut a slit in the wrist.
[Note] Enhance the absorption of the digestive organs to avoid nausea
The most important thing to avoid is vomiting the ingested drugs. Dying from taking drugs is, in other words, acute drug poisoning. Just imagine the scenario of drinking alcohol.
Of course, alcohol can also be lethal. There are often college students who die from alcohol poisoning. However, generally speaking, when the body can no longer tolerate it, it will vomit. This is just replacing alcohol with drugs.
Due to excessive intake, vomiting is also a natural occurrence. Therefore, mastering the appropriate amount is very difficult.
There are indeed methods to prevent vomiting, such as enhancing the absorption of the digest. For those who vomit due to physiological rejection, there is no method to respond. In short, one can only strive to take the "lethal dose," even if it is just one more pill.
Taking _ _ will not lead to death
Another thing to note is to understand the "lethal dose" before taking medication. There are many drugs that can be fatal. For example, the sleeping pills that have become a topic of discussion today—___ _ . They induce sleep quickly, and after taking them, one may lose memory, making them seem very dangerous, but they are actually quite safe. A 27-year-old woman who drank alcohol and simultaneously swallowed eighty tablets of ___ _ got up after falling asleep, like a sleepwalker, and told her parents, "I'm going to Los Angeles," before collapsing.
She regained consciousness the next day after being sent to the hospital, and all examination results were normal. Just because something looks dangerous doesn't mean it will be fatal.
This book does not introduce any drugs that are unclear and lethal. Unplanned actions not only lead to failure but also result in unnecessary suffering. A housewife who swallowed potassium cyanide scratched her chest all night, and when found, her chest was a bloody mess.
By the way, many rumors about drug-induced suicide are false. It is often said that there will be severe lifelong sequelae affecting the internal organs or brain, but based on the drugs mentioned in this book that affect the nervous system, some doctors say that almost none of them have such side effects.
There are also "anti-suicide theorists" who claim that health insurance does not cover the treatment costs of suicide, so it would require a huge amount of money, but this is also untrue. A twenty-six-year-old woman swallowed an unknown amount of a sedative, considered by the hospital to be the most potent, consisting of twenty tablets and twenty packets of powder, and was sent to the hospital where she remained in a coma for two days, yet she paid for her medical expenses using her insurance card. Therefore, it is also important to be aware of not being deceived by lies.
[ Prepared ]
Intravenous Injection First, there are various strategies to prevent vomiting. The simplest method is to place the drug on an aluminum object and heat it to melt, or dissolve it in hot water to create a solution, and then inject it intravenously with a syringe. In this way, of course, there will be no vomiting, and the absorption is much greater than through the gastrointestinal tract, requiring much less dosage. If air mixes into the syringe, it can cause an air embolism in the cerebral blood vessels leading to death. Additionally, if foreign substances other than blood mix into the blood vessels, it can cause shock and death.
Due to the mixing of foreign substances, there will be considerable pain in the blood vessels. In cases of multiple injections, the pain can be quite severe, and cold compresses can be applied to the arm; in short, some measures need to be taken.
For those who do not want to inject but wish to take medication to die, it is necessary to adjust the state of the stomach in advance. In order to absorb the drug more quickly and effectively induce acute poisoning, there should be no food left in the stomach. However, if the stomach is too empty, it can cause allergic reactions and vomiting, making it difficult to find the right balance. About an hour before deciding to commit suicide, one should drink a cup of black tea and eat a slice of toast, and taking a little anti-nausea medication is also acceptable.
The tablets should be crushed beforehand and put into a grinder to make them into powder. Capsules should be opened to leave the powder, or dissolved in hot water to form a liquid. Then mix the medication into pudding or yogurt, add some honey, and swallow quickly. However, some experts say that mixing the medication into pudding or yogurt does not speed up absorption. Perhaps it is better to consider it as a method to assist with swallowing.
Have a drink at the same time It is necessary to drink some alcohol at the same time. It is said that alcohol has a synergistic effect with drugs that act on the central nervous system, accelerating the dissolution rate of any drug, and the effect can be increased by fifty percent when used together. In addition to alcohol, it is best to prepare a little more of the drink.
Furthermore, it is essential to choose a place that others cannot find, ensuring that it is a location where one can stay alone for at least eight hours. For example, a hotel is the most suitable option. If discovered within a few hours, it becomes a failed suicide attempt, leading to the painful experience of repeated enemies.
A twenty-five-year-old woman was subjected to enemies after attempting suicide; she said, "If I had known it would be so painful, I wouldn't have tried to commit suicide." (However, she also mentioned, "Perhaps I will try to commit suicide again.")
After the preparation work is completed, let's start introducing the suicide drug.
Over-the-counter medication
Medications sold on the market have lower toxicity. Professional literature states: "If taken in large doses, (medications sold on the market) are almost non-lethal." This statement, while not entirely correct, does suggest that it is indeed difficult to die from tak
Code summary: The text discusses the balance between drug effectiveness and toxicity, particularly for over-the-counter medications. These drugs are designed to be less toxic and easily accessible. The text highlights the misconception that it is almost impossible to die from taking over-the-counter medications, clarifying that while difficult, it is not entirely impossible.

Lisuride S ( S)
In the post-war 1950s to 1960s, there was a second wave of sleeping pill suicides. Primarily involving young people in their twenties, the number of suicides by sleeping pills greatly exceeded that of hangings. Bromovalerylurea (Bromovaleryl) was sold under the trademark name "Brom" and was the main drug associated with the suicide wave. In 1926, Ryunosuke Akutagawa's suicide by sleeping pills triggered the first wave of suicides, during which "Brom" was widely used under the name "Carmotin." Osamu Dazai also attempted suicide multiple times using "Carmotin." Therefore, it can be said that "Brom" has long been a drug associated with sleeping pill suicides in Japan.
Currently, "Brom" is designated as a "prescription-only medication," and it cannot be purchased without a doctor's prescription. "Lisuride S" (Sato Pharmaceutical Company) sold on the market has the same ingredients and dosage as "Brom." Clearly, this is not illegal. Because the amount of "Brom" in each tablet can be sold if it is below 500 milligrams. This is an eight-millimeter tablet, white and bitter in taste. Once the conditions are ripe, simply taking a lethal dose will control the central nervous system (the stimulation of the brain and spinal cord nerves will be lost), leading to a rapid loss of consciousness, and death will occur mainly due to respiratory failure in about an hour at the fastest. Some people have died after taking 50 tablets of "Bromazepam" (Case 2), but taking 200 tablets is considered appropriate. 200 tablets is a full handful from both hands; if that is the total amount, there is no need to mix it with yogurt for such a complicated intake (Case 1). " (Shinrin Pharmaceutical Industry), "Day and Night ( )" (Taisho Pharmaceutical Industry), etcetera "Lisron S" is made purely from "Brom," but the others contain caffeine and other ingredients. Some ingredients. Due to the presence of excess ingredients, the dosage increases, which also In addition to "Murmur Tablets," the following "acetaminophen" also contains 150 milligrams of "Bromide" in one tablet. Taking 100 to 200 tablets, which is equivalent to the lethal dose of "Bromide," also reaches the lethal dose range for "acetaminophen." This is a double lethal dose, making it even more dangerous.
How to Buy
On the instruction manual of "Lishun S," it states that it is a medication with a calming effect for anxiety and tension. As long as the symptoms are described, it can be purchased, but the biggest problem is how to buy ten to twenty boxes. Most pharmacies are out of stock, and the quantity supplied by the pharmaceutical company to the pharmacies is also limited, so it is not possible to buy much at once. Sometimes, there are also cases where the pharmacy refuses to sell based on their judgment.
Pharmacies near major bus stations generally have supplies, so I look for about five and go to buy once every half month, accumulating twenty boxes in two months. This medication is taken two to three tablets daily, and there are only twelve tablets in a box, so it is not surprising to go buy once every ten days. However, to prevent abuse, pharmacies sometimes do not sell medications, or they may inquire about symptoms or suggest going to the hospital.
A staff member at a pharmacy said, "We don't sell to people who look unwell." In such cases, you might explain, "I don't want to see a doctor," or "It would be bad if my colleagues (classmates) found out I'm not feeling well." This is also true for those who are afraid of misusing medication.
When you can't find a pharmacy that sells the medication, you can call the pharmaceutical company. They will tell you which companies have them for sale.
● "Fall asleep immediately after eating" The best suicide drug "Ato P" Product Name Common Name Lethal Dose Ingredients per Tablet Dosage Amount per Box Atalax P Hydrochloride 25 milligrams estimated for a body weight of 60 kilograms, 20 tablets 1500 250 milligrams/kg (A)(B) 60 to 600 tablets yen Atarax (P)
This medication is generally available at pharmacies. It is very easy to buy 60 to 600 capsules, which is equivalent to three to thirty boxes. As mentioned earlier, the condition for a sleeping pill to be effective is "once obtained, take it and sleep," and this "Atarax P" ( - pharmaceutical company, commonly known as "Atarax P") is the best option. The lethal dose is estimated to be 25 to 250 milligrams per kilogram of body weight, which has a wide range and is vague, so a person weighing 60 kilograms could take 600 capsules.
Just having 600 green capsules in front of you can induce a kind of hallucination, but even if all the ingredients in one capsule are consumed, it amounts to no more than 20 milligrams. The capsule contains yellow powder, and when concentrated, it only fills a quarter of a small bowl, which is easy to take without mixing it in yogurt.
Hydroxyzine hydrochloride has the effect of suppressing the central nervous system and stabilizing the autonomic nervous system. When taken in large amounts, it can cause sleepiness, fatigue, dizziness, and ultimately death due to respiratory failure. It is essential to combine it with alcohol. The central nervous system suppression effect will be enhanced, and if the body is cooled during this time, the effect will be even better.
There are other medications with the same ingredients, such as "Gisron P ( P)" (Imperial Chemical) and "Bobusur ( - )" (Kato Suishodo). "Atarax P" is available in a 100-capsule package. However, a 40-year-old woman who took 100 capsules of "Atarax P" and drank a bottle of beer and a glass of whiskey lost consciousness and vomited 17 hours later. She was discovered and taken to the hospital, and after two days, she recovered and was discharged. In short, it is essential to think carefully and take a large amount.

● Contains narcotic ingredients "Bobur S" ● Sweet-tasting dangerous pills "Anetone" Cough Suppressants Babylon S (S), Anecdote Granules ( game that became popular called "Drink the cough syrup in one go and go wild." This was because the cough syrup contained "codeine," which acts on the cough center in the brain to suppress coughing, and "ephedrine," which dilates the bronchi, both of which are narcotic substances. Codeine is an opiate, and while the lethal dose of ephedrine is unclear, it is a stimulant, making it very dangerous. It should be banned, but without it, one cannot stop coughing.
Code summary: This algorithm processes product information. It receives product names and their ingredients, including common ingredients and potentially lethal dose ingredients, along with quantities per tablet, dosage information, and prices. The output is a structured representation of this product data, associating names with ingredients, dosages, and pricing.
Therefore, most cough suppressants sold today contain these two types of ingredients. "Babylon S" (Taisho Pharmaceutical) is one of these types of drugs. In the 1980s, "Bru Liquid" (S.S Pharmaceutical) was used more frequently, but this drug does not contain ephedrine, so here we mention the phosphate dihydrocodeine (Dihydrocodeine) with a structure almost identical to codeine, 30 milligrams, and the sister component of ephedrine, dl-methyl ephedrine hydrochloride (Methylephedrine) in "Babylon." A large dose of phosphate codeine can cause drowsiness, while ephedrine has a stimulating effect. Overall, it is more accurate to say that it has a stimulating effect, leading to increased heart rate and accelerated breathing, which can result in death due to insufficient circulation. Additionally, cough suppressants containing 30 milligrams of dihydrocodeine include "Shindeni" ( ) Cough Syrup" and "Shin S — Liquid" (Kyoei). The amount of dl-methyl ephedrine contained in "Anecdote Granules" ( ) is 10 milligrams. Regarding codeine, the book "The Final Exit" lists a specific figure of 2.4 milligrams, so it is believed that taking more than 160 packs is acceptable. This would require taking 240 milligrams of granules, which is just a small bowl in terms of quantity. An expert's opinion is: "Mixed in something like yogurt," white granules, sweet taste.
●Strong Drugs — Dimenhydrinate block "Lacmoria" Product Name Ingredient Name Lethal Dose Ingredients per Tablet Dosage Amour Lacmoria Dimenhydrinate 25~250 milligrams/kg (G), 50 milligrams For a body weight of 60 kilograms, 6 tablets Minimum 2.5g (I) 30~300 tablets 800 yen Antiemetics Racemoron()
Antiemetics unexpectedly contain many dangerous ingredients. A twenty-four-year-old woman experienced vomiting, dizziness, convulsions, and fell into a coma after taking 7.5 grams of Dimenhydrinate for an abortion, and died from respiratory failure ninety minutes later. "Racemoron ( )" (Tozawa Pharmaceutical Industry) contains not only Dimenhydrinate but also 7 milligrams of Hydrochloride and 14 milligrams of Anhydrous Caffeine, making it easier to obtain than pure Dimenhydrinate.
It is a slightly larger tablet with a white, blue, and white three-layer structure. Medications containing 50 milligrams of Dimenhydrinate include "Calax ( — S)" (Kyoei), "Dimenhydrinate," "Mode ( — )" (Mode Pharmaceutical), "Drive Soft" (Choseido), and several others, which are also available at pharmacies. If taking at least thirty tablets can lead to death, it is a rather poor method for suicide.
It is not a good option.
The issue with taking this medication is whether one can sleep well. As mentioned earlier, this drug affects the central nervous system, leading to respiratory cessation, with side effects including drowsiness and headaches. However, since it is not a psychotropic drug, one cannot fall asleep quickly.
If sleep is necessary, it can be combined with over-the-counter sleeping pills. However, there are cases of twenty-year-old and twenty-two-year-old men who took 800 milligrams of Dimenhydrinate and experienced hallucinations but did not die.
● Strong drugs not for children "Travel Minya" ● Can be taken without water "Xianbaya" Product Name Common Ingredient Name Lethal Dose Ingredients per Tablet Dosage Traveling Pennsylvania Hydroxybenzoic Acid 25 milligrams/kg(A), 40 milligrams When weighing 60 kilograms, 10 tablets 40 milligrams/kg(G) 38~60 tablets 650 yen Product Name Common Ingredients Lethal Dose Ingredients per Tablet Dosage Amount per Box Xanbaya Hyoscine Hydrobromide 50 milligrams (A), 0.25 milligrams 200 tablets 6 tablets 5 to 10 milligrams (D) 777 yen Travel Minya()
"Does the famous 'Travel Minya' also cause death?" Some may wonder, the ingredients of 'Travel Minya' include Phosphoryl Hydroxybenzoic Acid ( ) 40 milligrams, and Diprophylline 26 milligrams. The other ingredients are few, with the dangerous ingredient Phosphoryl Hydroxybenzoic Acid accounting for the largest proportion. Additionally, there are many other ingredients that contain caffeine and other substances to prevent drowsiness. "Phosphoryl Hydroxybenzoic Acid" acts as an antihistamine, causing a mix of symptoms of central nervous system inhibition and excitation.
It leads to severe brain stimulation and significant cognitive impairment. However, antihistamines have a sedative effect, and driving is prohibited after taking them, as large doses can induce sleep.
Xanbaya()
The advantage of anti-nausea medication is that people believe "no one would use such a thing to commit suicide." When you go to buy it, you can say, "I want to buy some anti-nausea medicine because I'm going on a long trip." The pharmacy will not be suspicious. A box of 'Xanbaya' (Taisho Pharmaceutical) contains only six tablets, so to buy 200 tablets, you only need thirty-three boxes, which is not a concern.
Hyoscine Hydrobromide has the effect of inhibiting the parasympathetic nervous system, and large doses can suppress breathing. Side effects include drowsiness, confusion, hallucinations, and difficulty swallowing, raising questions about whether one will fall asleep immediately after taking it.
Medications containing Hyoscine Hydrobromide are more common for preventing seasickness, and among the medications available on the market, 'Xanbaya' contains the highest amount of Hyoscine, without any unnecessary ingredients. The large tablets, which are one centimeter in diameter, need to be crushed for 200 tablets, and they have no bitter taste.
Image summary: This is a placeholder image. The image contains the word 'Image' inside a rectangular box. There are no specific inferences that can be drawn other than it is a generic representation of an image.

Taisho Tohpuku ( ), Long San Bao Capsule A "Taisho Tohpuku" (Taisho Pharmaceutical) and "Long San Bao Capsule A" (Sanbao Pharmaceutical) contain three hundred milligrams of Acetaminophen, which has sedative and antipyretic effects. Excessive intake can cause drowsiness, dizziness, headache, nausea, vomiting, and lead to coma. Ultimately, it can endanger the liver and result in death, and cannot be considered a sleeping pill. However, "Taisho Tohpuku" contains two hundred milligrams of Bromovaleryl Urea in one packet, which makes it easier to fall asleep.
The medication's precautions also state "may cause drowsiness," prohibiting driving and operating machinery after taking it. It is a small white pill, bitter in taste but gives a refreshing sensation in the mouth. The analgesic "Laxin ( — )" ( ) also contains three hundred milligrams of Acetaminophen in one packet. There are many other combinations, but this has the advantage of being "able to buy a lot at once." If we were to list detoxifying analgesics containing Acetaminophen, there would be countless examples available on the market, so feel free to purchase amounts that could reach lethal doses.
For example, a forty-nine-year-old woman took thirty tablets of Shudesi A "A" (containing Acetaminophen 80 milligrams, Bromovaleryl Urea 100 milligrams, 200 milligrams, and anhydrous caffeine 25 milligrams), which led to liver and kidney failure, resulting in sixteen days of excitement and drowsiness, and death due to respiratory failure. This woman, who died after taking only thirty tablets (2.4 grams of Acetaminophen), was fortunate. The most severe side effect from the ingredients of this "Shudesi A" is Acetaminophen. The currently sold "New Shudesi Tablets" (Shionogi Pharmaceutical) replace Bromovaleryl Urea with 30 milligrams of Urea and 40 milligrams of caffeine, while other ingredients remain unchanged.
● Stimulant "Yestalon Mocha"
Yestalon Mocha Tablets (
tablets), Aspirin
Some people believe that "frequently drinking coffee" without much concern for caffeine is not good. Caffeine stimulates the brain's vascular motor center and respiratory center, enhancing the contraction strength of the heart muscle, making it a highly stimulating agent. Excessive consumption can lead to excitement, increased blood pressure, ventricular fibrillation (a phenomenon where the ventricles of the heart contract), cardiac arrest, and even death.
Aspirin stimulates the central nervous system and metabolic system, leading to rapid breathing, metabolic abnormalities, high fever, and death due to respiratory failure or shock, and it can also cause damage to the kidneys.
Both have stimulating effects and will absolutely prevent sleep, but they are introduced due to their easy accessibility and the fact that even small amounts can be lethal. They are not suitable for those who wish to die peacefully. For example, a 21-year-old female student who took 100 tablets of 500 milligrams Aspirin (50 grams) experienced various symptoms such as fatigue, nausea, excitement, rapid breathing, and drowsiness, and died approximately 19 hours later due to respiratory arrest. From the above example, it can be seen that the time from taking Aspirin to death is quite short.
Due to the minimal excess ingredients in "Yestalon Moka Tablets" (S.S Pharmaceutical, brown tablets with an extremely bitter taste) and "Aspirin Tablets" (), caffeine and Aspirin are heavily commercialized. Caffeine is available in products like "Caffeine Soft Tablets ( - tablets)" ( - ), "Caffeine Cool Tablets ( - )" ( ), and other oral medications. Aspirin is included in antipyretic analgesics such as "Glandrol ( - )" (Fujisawa Pharmaceutical Industry) and "New Grelan (New A)" (Takeda Pharmaceutical Industry), which primarily contain Aspirin.

Young Salesman Submits Suicide Notice to Newspaper
On August 2, 1956, around 10 P.M, when a cinema in Mejiro was screening two films in succession, the usher discovered a young man still sleeping and intended to wake him up, only to find that he was already cold. He had slowly ingested 200 tablets of Brovarin and 30 tablets of Adorm while drinking alcohol. After being rushed to the hospital, he remained in a deep sleep for a full day and night, passing away on the morning of the 4th.
He was born in Tokyo and was 23 years old. He dropped out of a fisheries university and had worked at a pharmaceutical company for four and a half years, mainly engaged in packaging and delivery work. His brother was also a pharmacist at a pharmaceutical company, and it is estimated that he obtained the lethal dosage and method of ingestion from there.
On July 28, the previous month, he resigned from the pharmaceutical company for "personal reasons" and started promoting "installment order" sales at a department store on the same day. However, he was extremely dissatisfied with the company's policy that all commissions would go to the company if he did not meet the target sales, and on August 1, the day before his suicide, he sent a letter to the Asahi Shimbun's submission column stating, "When I leave this world, I will loudly denounce this company's illegal practices." In other words, he announced his death through his submission.
He wrote in his suicide note to the head of the department store, " Before I decided to carry out what I had already resolved to do, I happened to encounter this experience with the department store. I do not attribute the responsibility for the existence of the weak being preyed upon by the strong in this society to the grassroots of the organization... " This indicates that it was not out of blame towards the company's unfairness that he took his own life.
The young man, who was open-minded and had a philosophical side, wrote detective stories in his room, and his motive for suicide remains unclear to this day.
What needs to be examined here is not the strange behavior he exhibited before his death, but rather the fact that he ingested 200 tablets of Brovarin and 30 tablets of Adorm (a barbiturate sleeping pill) and surprisingly did not vomit, thus completing his suicide. Generally, swallowing such a large quantity of tablets would result in vomiting, which is one of the drawbacks of poisoning for suicide. He probably ingested them little by little over the course of more than two hours after the movie was released, demonstrating the corresponding method that "if you swallow little by little, you won't vomit."
Brovarin is packaged for sale in only 100 milligrams, and he swallowed 20 grams, which is enough to reach a lethal dose of 10 to 30 grams. It is said that if taken with alcohol, the effect can be ten times stronger, which he probably heard from his brother.
[ Case Study 2 ]
A student who took 50 tablets of Brovarin left behind a "death record. " In May 1972, a 20-year-old student died after slipping off a chair in his room. On the table in his room was a suicide note and a brand new notebook titled "Final Moments," which began with the words, "I am not escaping this society due to some so-called nihilism. The reason I choose to disappear now is that I feel this is the right time to commit suicide."
Moreover, strangely, he detailed the process of taking the drugs until he lost consciousness in his university notebook.
"It is now May 19, 1972, at 7:07 P.M. I swallowed fifty tablets of Brovarin two or three minutes ago. I do not know when I will fall asleep in a few minutes or hours and say goodbye to this society, but I will observe my own death until the last moment... At 10:15 P.M, I do not want to sleep at all."
I turned on the radio to listen for a while, then turned it off. I want to stay calm but I am still excited; the music I usually love feels annoying today. I want to carefully review my life... (there are five pages of notes about my parents and friends)... At 11:30 P.M, I have been yawning since a while ago, and it seems the final moment is approaching. But I want to watch my feelings of death until the last moment, so I keep reminding myself to hold on. I do not know when my body will be discovered, but I want to see my desires continuously surge... At midnight. Five minutes.
The notes end here, and it is likely that he became delirious at this point.
[ Cause of Death Examination ]
Fifty tablets of Brovarin correspond to five grams of Bromovalerylurea, which is much lower than the lethal dose, but I do not believe the young man was lying, so it can be understood that swallowing such a large amount could also lead to death. At the same time, it is known that taking fifty tablets of Brovarin will gradually increase drowsiness, and after about two hours of sleep, one will not wake up again. Moreover, there is no pain until losing consciousness, and the mind remains clear. Of course, this can vary greatly depending on one's physical condition and health; if one collapses immediately, they would probably fall asleep in a shorter time.
His suicide can truly be described as an "experiment." Regarding leaving behind a record, he wrote, "Dying without leaving anything behind can easily be misunderstood as a result of the depression common at my age. I do not want to be misunderstood in any way, so I calmly leave behind my evidence as I carefully examine myself." However, we completely fail to understand his motivation for suicide, so we can only think that he died "to try out the feelings of dying."
Regardless of how it is, the record written while holding the pen until the point of losing consciousness is extremely precious. After the last "five minutes," it is probably appropriate to continue writing the sentence "then I should fall asleep."
Additionally, as an example of taking Bromovaleryl urea, there was a twenty-two-year-old woman who swallowed fifty tablets of five different Brom series medications. She was discovered and treated twelve hours after ingestion, and after continuing in a semi-conscious state for ten days, she died from heart failure and complications of nephritis. Additionally, two fifteen-year-old female students who each swallowed 100 tablets of Brovarin, equivalent to 10 grams, were found staggering while walking. They were taken to the hospital by ambulance and regained consciousness five hours later; they are now fully recovered.
Restricted Pharmaceuticals
For drugs that may be abused as narcotics or used for self-harm, the Ministry of Health has classified them as controlled substances, poisons, prescription drugs, and designated pharmaceuticals, restricting access to the general public. What I will introduce here are these types of "restricted pharmaceuticals."
Just because they are not easily obtainable does not mean they cannot be acquired; some individuals may already have prescriptions, so it is worth mentioning.
Diazepam ( ), Clonazepam ( ) Recently, some psychiatrists have been indiscriminately ), Suvorexant ( prescribing medications. When you open the door to psychiatric care and tell the doctor that you are "unable to sleep" or "feeling anxious," there is a high likelihood that they will prescribe anti-anxiety medications such as Diazepam or Clonazepam. Sometimes, internal medicine doctors may also issue such prescriptions. After receiving an anti-anxiety prescription from a psychiatrist, you might say "it doesn't work" and request a change of medication. Ultimately, the doctor also needs to try to determine which medication is more suitable for the patient.
However, because doctors tend to prescribe these types of Benzodiazepine medications first, it indicates that they have a high safety profile. Even if you are fortunate enough to obtain such a prescription, the effects are minimal and the distance to a lethal dose is significant, meaning you would have to frequently visit the hospital to reach a lethal dose. The prescribed amount is usually no more than fifteen milligrams per day, so you would need to stockpile at least a month's worth of medication. Moreover, doctors have expressed concerns that the prescribed medications could accumulate and be used for self-harm.
Because they are easily accessible, they are not suitable for self-harm. There have been cases where two patients ingested 450 to 500 milligrams of Clonazepam and recovered their health within forty-eight hours.
Although the brand names "Suvorexant ( )" and "Clonazepam ( )" differ, they all belong to the class of "Clonazepam" medications. Sometimes, if you do not understand what medication the doctor has prescribed, you can refer to books like "Guides to Medications Prescribed by Doctors."
Product Name Shearson, Gabapentin Gabapentin, Sunan Kong Common Ingredient Lethal Dose suggests 500 milligrams (I), 5 milligrams tablets above 500 milligrams (H) 100 capsules Dosage required, indicating Restrictions Note: The symbols for highly toxic substances are based on the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act. (要) refers to medications that must be prescribed by a doctor; they cannot be sold without a doctor's prescription. (指) refers to designated medications, which are prohibited for use by anyone other than pharmacists.
Typhiniol ( ), Clitamin ( ), others "Typhiniil" and other antidepressants are extremely effective for those who do not respond to anxiolytics, severe depression Conditions such as depression and insomnia are suitable. They are harder to obtain than anti-anxiety medications, but you can express to your doctor that you have difficulty falling asleep, and that anti-anxiety medications are ineffective, which may lead to a prescription. You can even mention thoughts of suicide. If you are truly in a state of depression, sometimes you may feel lively, but once the medication is stopped, you return to your original state. These are the listed antidepressants, which have similar properties.
Large doses can cause headaches, dizziness, sleepiness. Sometimes they can also lead to mental confusion and hallucinations, and generally induce sleep quickly. However, spasms in the hands and feet are common toxic effects.
Although it is believed that they do not cause damage to internal organs, there are cases where they can hinder the liver. The effects are enhanced when used in conjunction with central nervous system depressants and alcohol.

Insmin()
Although "Insomnia" is not an anxiolytic or antidepressant, it is more commonly prescribed by doctors as a sleeping pill. Of course, excessive use can lead to a state of excitement, but due to its central nervous system suppression, one will quickly fall asleep, potentially leading to death from respiratory failure. Similarly, combining it with alcohol and other central nervous system depressants can enhance its effects.
Wintermine, Antihistamine ( )
一. has a very significant effect. Generally, as long as a person takes one tablet, they will soon feel a strong drowsiness. A twenty-one-year-old college student took one tablet while attending a class. After "Wintermin," he actually fell into a deep sleep, and when he woke up, the next class had already started. In other words, he was completely "Wintermin" and "Chinese text" are this kind of This medication is used for patients with severe symptoms, specifically for those with schizophrenia rather than neurosis, making it harder to obtain. However, the lethality is very high. This medication also suppresses the central nervous system, with the cause of death being respiratory failure. Importantly, it must be taken in a lethal dose before the onset of drowsiness. However, there are cases where individuals were saved after ingesting 9.75 grams. The symptoms of poisoning include persistent high fever, consciousness impairment, difficulty in breathing, circulatory collapse, and dehydration, ultimately leading to death due to acute renal failure.
Barbiturates (barbital), isomital (—), and others These are substances that can be fatal if inhaled. The margin between the effective dose and the lethal dose is extremely small; it is said that taking just a little can lead to sleep and death. The European and American euthanasia associations strongly recommend this drug. However, it is not easily obtainable.
Because it has been a long time since it was widely used, it is almost not used in Japan anymore, and even if prescribed, it is only given to those with extremely severe symptoms. However, it may still be obtainable overseas, so it is introduced here.
These are all sleeping pills belonging to the barbituric acid (Barbituric) class, and large doses can cause the heart and breathing to stop, making them extremely dangerous drugs. Symptoms of poisoning include headache, convulsions, and mental confusion; if taken in large amounts, one can suddenly fall into a coma. If it can be obtained, there is no better euthanasia drug than this.
If you plan to purchase overseas, since the product names are not standardized, you should remember the generic names. It is said that the regulations in the Netherlands are relatively lenient.
However, there are also the following examples. A fifty-one-year-old doctor is estimated to have ingested twenty grams of phenobarbital powder and was in a coma for four days. Later, he regained consciousness through artificial dialysis, but continued to experience delusions, fantasies, and excitement. After a month, he was discharged without any mental impairments.
For these types of drugs that are almost impossible to obtain and are known to have lethal doses, a list is provided at the end of this chapter for reference.

Narcotics
Drugs are the substances closest to death. Compared to other medications, their lethal dose is However, there are some reservations about recommending drugs as a means of suicide.
I originally didn't know how to get my hands on them. Even if someone told me that "there's a club frequented by foreigners that has them," it's still generally impossible to know which club it is and who would sell them to me. Even if I managed to get them, how many impurities would they contain? Moreover, I completely don't understand which type of drug it is.
At the same time, whether the body is accustomed to it affects the toxicity and lethal dose significantly. The lethal dose varies from person to person, and with drugs, it is even more pronounced. Chronic users do not apply to the general lethal dose (some records say it can be ten times higher); this method of causing death requires large amounts to be ingested, and there is no other way.
This means that drugs are not suitable for planned suicides. Because of this, what is introduced below is only for those who can handle it or already have it in hand, and who know its components.
Table summary: The lethal dose is the same for both stimulant and amphetamine.
(1) Stimulants
Stimulant There was once a question: "Should one stop using stimulants, or end their life?" The correct answer should be "Using stimulants ends life."
When World War 2 had just ended, a product circulating among the public called "Hiropon ( )" sparked a wave of stimulant drugs, which today are known as "Shabu ( )" and "Speed ( — )," widely used by delinquents and even club youth, and still holds the throne in Japan's narcotics scene. Amphetamine is mainly used in Europe and America, while Methamphetamine (Hiropon) was invented by a Japanese person and later spread worldwide, becoming a representative narcotic of Japan. It can be said that "Hiropon" in Greek means "love of work."
Stimulants stimulate the central nervous system, particularly having a significant effect on the brain, enhancing concentration and desire for activity. The first time a lethal dose of Methamphetamine is injected intravenously, within seconds to tens of seconds, the heart rate sharply increases, autonomic nervous system abnormalities occur, sweating, deep and accelerated breathing, and dilated pupils lead to death due to circulatory organ failure. It can sometimes cause cerebral hemorrhage.
If ingested, the effect is reduced, so it must be injected intravenously. However, for those who are already accustomed to it, even an intake of 0.5 to 1 gram a day will not be fatal. A 27-year-old woman fell into a coma after taking 2 grams of Methamphetamine, with dilated pupils and severe facial muscle spasms, and was hospitalized.
Conversely, there are cases where only 1.5 milligrams have resulted in death. It is estimated that no one will attempt this, but it should be avoided in conjunction with "Xie Er Xin" or "Wintermin," as it will reduce effectiveness.
Cocaine (Cocaine)
According to a survey conducted by a women's magazine in the United States in 1984, one-third of women under the age of 25 have used cocaine. This is a drug that is currently gaining interest in the United States. There have been no reported deaths from cocaine, and the lethal dose is much higher than that of other drugs, making it less suitable for suicide.
It stimulates the central nervous system, deepening respiration, and its pharmacological effects are considered roughly similar to those of stimulants. It is generally inhaled as a powder through the nose, but intravenous injection has a much greater effect. It is said that in cases of acute poisoning, death can occur within three hours of use. The state of consciousness near death is similar to that of narcotics other than hallucinogens; even if there is some headache, the mind remains clear, and one can think quite calmly, "This is not good," "I cannot die like this."
Regular users typically consume 1.5 to 2 grams daily without dying. Cocaine is the main component of coca tree leaves. If you want to purchase it overseas, you should buy it in its country of ● The source of cocaine, the coca tree "Coca" Lethal Dose Cocaine 1.2g (A)(J), injection 0.2 to 0.5g, oral 1.0 to 1.5g (M), about 1.5g (D)
Inhibitory System Opium, morphine, heroin Generally, these three are considered completely different narcotics, but in fact, they share a co Opium is made from the dried latex obtained from the immature seed pods of the poppy, composed of over twenty types of plant alkaloids, including codeine. Among them, morphine, which constitutes 4% to 20% of the content, is the main component, and heroin produced through chemical processing of morphine. Of course, the potency order is heroin, morphine, opium, with heroin being considered ten times stronger than morphine. The toxic effects are roughly the same, and if one can get their hands on it, heroin is the most reliable in terms of lethality. Unlike these stimulants and cocaine, they can suppress the central nervous system, causing a dazed euphoria, and are known as depressant series drugs.
If inhaled or injected in excess, dizziness, nausea, and vomiting appear within seconds, blood pressure and body temperature gradually decrease, breathing is suppressed, and coma can occur for six to twelve hours, leading to death due to respiratory failure. Kidney failure caused by heroin is fatal. Rumored victims such as Bunker „ock, Sidhu Bees, and John Simon Richard have all lost their lives to heroin Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos are major production areas, and of course, they are also easy to c The structures of morphine (left), heroin (middle), and codeine contained in opium; all three are very similar.

(3) Mixture (Cocktail)
Speed ball
Mixing with other narcotics can create a synergistic effect, increasing lethality, such as with sleeping pills. It is generally believed that combining central nervous system depressants increases the risk of death. However, in the world of narcotics, the combination of the depressant cocaine and the stimulant heroin, when inhaled or injected, is commonly referred to as a "speed ball," which is particularly dangerous.
Using such mixtures can lead to alternating stimulation and suppression of the central nervous svstem, where one may experience rapid heartbeats followed by the sensation of the heart nearly stopping, with this phenomenon repeating within seconds. The cause of death is cardiac arrest, making it a perfect mixture for suicide.
Additionally, the combination of stimulant amphetamines and codeine, or stimulants and L.S.D, is said to have a particularly strong stimulating effect.
L.S.D Lethal Dose Approximately 1.4 milligrams (D)
(4) Hallucinogens
L.S.D
This is a narcotic that acts extremely quickly in very small amounts, typically between 20 to 250 micrograms (millionths of a gram), with a lethal dose that is incredibly low. Among all the drugs listed in this book, it has the lowest lethal dose. So, does that mean you can die quickly? Not really. The L.S.D available on the market is usually diluted hundreds of times and soaked into paper, which requires consuming a large amount of these paper squares.
Generally speaking, hallucinogenic effects are primarily caused by stimulant drugs, and excessive use can lead to palpitations. At the same time, the brain can enter a state of panic, and sometimes people may even jump out of windows and die as a result. However, if used in typical amounts, the harm to the body is less than that of other drugs.
Outside of pharmaceuticals
This section introduces the "poisons" that are everywhere around you.
Of course, many people may have a desire to die immediately, even if it's not a peaceful death. For these individuals, this book also introduces methods of "car crash suicide" and "self-immolation" that are definitely not peaceful ways to die. The same goes for drugs; even if it's not dying in sleep, experiencing a moment of pain and then dying is acceptable. For those of you planning to end your life, trying to obtain those hard-to-get drugs is too much trouble. If you plan to go to work or school tomorrow, it's better to take the drugs listed in this book. This section also generally describes the pharmacological effects, but some poisoning experts believe that "these things This section also generally describes the pharmacological effects, but some poisoning experts believe that "these things have no pharmacological effects." In other words, most people will immediately exclaim "Wow—" after swallowing, throat, Stomach ulcers lead to death through suffering.
The method of ingestion does not specify the amount except for exceptions, nor does it explain each one individually. It is also not a practice of eating within an hour, mixed in a type of yogurt.
However, it is essential to know the lethal dose. The harmful components of these products vary in quantity. Although the dosage is not specified, if you want to know the ingredient amounts of each product, you can call the seller for inquiries. Based on the lethal dose calculation, do not ingest too small an amount.
First, let's mention some substances that may seem potentially lethal but are actually poorly toxic and not suitable for self-harm, such as desiccant silica gel, synthetic detergents, shampoos, hair conditioners, pomade, ink, cling film, mosquito coils, cockroach traps, deodorants, deodorizers, insecticides from the para-dichlorobenzene series, household bleach, and quicklime used as a desiccant. Coumarin series and rodenticides are also unusable due to their poor toxicity. Additionally, it is naturally safe to consume items like lipstick, toothpaste, and body wash, which have the potential to enter the body orally. Swallowing an entire tube of toothpaste is harmless; even if you have an impulse to self-harm, it should never be used. Regardless of how much is ingested, it will only cause discomfort.
●The symbol of strong smoke "Hi-lite" ●The strongest cigar "Short Peace"
(1) Cigarettes
The nicotine toxicity contained in short cigarettes like Hope, Hi-lite, and others is much more severe than generally imagined. A baby can sometimes be killed by just one or two cigarettes. Professional literature states that it is "a poison comparable to cyanide."
Currently sold cigarettes, short Hopes contain 1.6 milligrams, Hi-lite contains 1.6 milligrams, and short Peace contains 2.7 milligrams of nicotine. This is more than the amount found in cigars, but the nicotine becomes ineffective when burned while smoking. Of course, one can also eat the tobacco leaves, but soaking the leaves in water to extract the nicotine allows for faster absorption and better effects.
After soaking the tobacco in water for one hour, 50% to 70% of the nicotine will be extracted. If 50% is extracted, to intake sixty milligrams of nicotine, you can use forty-four short Peace cigarettes soaked in water, and after one hour, drink the solution. Boiling it in a pot can extract nearly 70% to 100%, and the time is also short.
The heat of one hundred degrees will not destroy nicotine, and it dissolves faster in alcohol. The solution of cigarettes is very bitter, and adding some sugar is not a bad idea.
Nicotine stimulates the central nervous system, such as motor neurons, causing excitement, followed by an inhibitory effect. After consumption, the throat immediately feels a burning pain, accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and headaches. Soon, there is sensory paralysis and confusion.
Death occurs due to respiratory failure. After taking a lethal dose, paralysis occurs without an excited state, leading to a state of collapse, and breathing can stop in an instant.
The biggest problem is that nicotine has a strong nauseating effect, so it is best to take it with anti-nausea medication. Of course, if this solution is injected into the veins, the effect is even stronger, and there is no need to worry about vomiting.
(2) Pesticides, Insecticides

Code summary: This describes the harmful effects of two substances. One can cause corrosion and vascular issues. The other can inhibit the nervous system and irritate tissues. Both are harmful to internal organs and can cause various negative health outcomes, potentially leading to death after ingestion.
●Unpleasant white solid "Fujisawa Camphor"
Table summary: The table presents the lethal doses of several harmful products. Gasoline has a smaller lethal dose than Kerosene and Benzene. Toluene has a minimum lethal dose of 50mg/kg.
Table (2) summary: The table presents the harmful ingredients, lethal dose, and dosage for various products. Benzene is a common harmful ingredient in pesticide and camphor, while boric acid and cresol are harmful ingredients in insecticide and larvicide, respectively. The lethal dose and dosage vary across products and even within the same product, depending on the specific ingredient and other factors.
(3) Organic Solvents
Kerosene, gasoline, benzene (Benzene), thinner Pouring kerosene, gasoline, etcetera on oneself and setting it on fire is also possible, but if ingested, a small amount can lead to death without much pain. Both of these methods will irritate the mucous membranes and suppress the central nervous system. Symptoms include nausea, drowsiness, a burning sensation in the chest, and confusion, ultimately leading to death due to respiratory failure.
There are also cases of sudden death from ventricular fibrillation. However, there have been instances of recovery after ingesting 250 milliliters of gasoline. Benzene can be purchased at any pharmacy. The minimum lethal dose is ten milliliters, equivalent to one-fifth of a glass, but at least 100 milliliters should be ingested. However, this is not considered a large amount.
After ingestion, the central nervous system is suppressed, and the entire body enters an anesthetic state. Symptoms initially include headache, dizziness, and a brief feeling of euphoria followed by drowsiness, leading to death from respiratory failure or sudden ventricular fibrillation. The symptoms of poisoning are not severe, making it particularly suitable for suicide.
Inhaling the volatile components of benzene is more toxic than ingesting it. However, since the lethal dose for inhalation has not been clarified, it will not be introduced here.
The thinner is originally a "liquid for diluting paint," mostly a mixture of toluene and methyl alcohol. It is often obtained from others, and the content is not fixed, making it unsuitable for planned suicide, but it is highly toxic. After ingestion, there is a burning sensation in the mouth, esophagus, and stomach, it suppresses the central nervous system, damages hematopoietic function, and can lead to death.
The use of thinners is a method that can easily lead to death through inhalation. Just 1,000 to 3,000 ppm can immediately induce a state of anesthesia. Pouring banana oil into a basin and covering it with a blanket can lead to loss of consciousness and death from asphyxiation. This is the only method of peaceful suicide outside of pharmaceuticals. When using it, one should use a thinner of very high purity. Of course, taking a few puffs beforehand to speed up the process is also a good start before using other methods for suicide.
Table (4) summary: The table presents the composition of different chemicals found in suicide manuals. The quantity of iodine tincture varies, while cresol has an estimated amount per kilogram. The quantity of phosphoric acid is also specified.
(4) Household Products
Rust Remover, Iodine Tincture, Cresol Soap Water
The rust remover products like "Clean Rust" and "Best Clean" contain about 40% concentration and 89% phosphoric acid. The lethal dose of the rust remover is 22.5 milliliters. If such a quantity is ingested, it is more accurate to say that the tissue damage in the mouth, esophagus, and stomach leads to acute death rather than the toxicity of phosphoric acid itself.
Disinfectants are highly toxic and can be freely purchased at pharmacies, making them excellent suicide drugs. Outside of pharmaceuticals, there is probably nothing more effective. A pharmacist even said, "This stuff can kill most simply because it can be swallowed in large amounts."
Iodine can corrode the digestive organs, causing headaches, neurological disorders, and shock, leading to drowsiness and death. Phenol is generally considered to have a lethal dose of about 180 milligrams for an adult weighing 60 kilograms. Its ingestion can cause central nervous system stimulation, followed by anesthetic effects, leading to sensory impairment and convulsions, ranging from confusion and respiratory paralysis to cardiac arrest. Loss of consciousness can occur within five minutes at the fastest, or within thirty minutes at the latest.
It poses a threat to the kidneys and liver, with the first twenty-four hours after ingestion being critical. A fourteen-year-old middle school student who ingested about eighty milligrams of phenol fell into a coma and once regained consciousness, but suffered liver and kidney damage, leading to pneumothorax due to air retention in the pleura on the thirty-sixth day, resulting in death from cardiac arrest.

(5) Cosmetics
Nail polish remover, hair dye, perm solution Nail polish remover is one of the most dangerous products in cosmetics. It contains 20% to 25% acetone and 30% to 50% amyl acetate, which have anesthetic properties. Large doses can irritate the mucous membranes, leading to headaches, states of excitement, fatigue, and even coma. The amounts vary by product, and this table serves as a reference to confirm lethal doses. In cases of attempted suicide, there is a possibility of damaging the liver and kidneys.
Nail lacquer also contains 30% acetone and 30% pentyl acetate. A lethal dose can be reached by consuming 500 to 750 milligrams. Severe nausea occurs, but absorption can lead to headaches, excitement, and even coma. Due to its relatively low toxicity, the downside is that it must be consumed in large quantities.
The ingredient para-phenylenediamine (P-phenylenediamine) in hair dye is used to dye hair black and is highly toxic. Products such as "Bigen" ( — — ), "Bleach King" (Shanfa Industry), and "Viralong" ( – ), ( Cosmetics) contain about two percent of para-phenylenediamine. The powder contains The "Drift King" powder (six grams in a box) contains six percent of a higher quantity; just fourt Of course, when consuming it, it is better to dissolve it in water first to improve its absorption r Large doses can cause acute liver impairment, ranging from circulatory failure to respiratory di The second liquid of the perm solution contains 2 to 6% potassium bromate. Potassium bromate irritates the central nervous system and the tissues of the stomach, causing nausea, vomiting, and a burning sensation in the stomach, leading to a state of coma. It can sometimes cause hearing impairment and is considered highly toxic. However, due to the small amount contained, at least eighty grams, to be completely safe, one would have to drink a pound of perm solution. Therefore, I do not intend to recommend it.

Herbicides, Aconitum, Table salt Herbicides containing paraquat are generally not easily accessible to the public, but they are still widely used in rural areas, so they can still be obtained. This is a highly toxic substance, and the antidote is still unclear. Paraquat and diquat ( ) have similar structures and properties, both interacting with enzymes in the body and causing lipid peroxidation of cell membranes. After ingestion, severe vomiting occurs, along with corrosion of the mouth, esophagus, and digestive organs, harming the liver, kidneys, circulatory system, lungs, and ultimately leading to death. A characteristic is that although the internal organs are damaged, the person remains conscious, resulting in greater suffering (Case 3).
The herbicide "Glycophate ( )" contains 24% paraquat, "Matsutake ( )" contains 5% paraquat and 7% diquat, while "Regalox ( )" contains 30% diquat. The lethal dose of "Regalox" is 20 to 40 milliliters. In addition, there are many herbicides that contain two components.
There is a case of a forty-year-old woman who drank about ten milliliters of paraquat but survived the suicide attempt. A twenty-eight-year-old man who ingested about one hundred milliliters of "Glyphosate" herbicide died fourteen days later due to lung complications. Similarly, a fifty-year-old woman who consumed two hundred fifty milligrams of "Glyphosate" died thirty hours later from circulatory failure. A seventeen-year-old man who drank about one hundred milligrams of "Reglone" died six hours later due to respiratory failure.
In summary, if you want to die sooner, you must drink a large amount.
●Aconite
Several years ago, Aconite, which gained attention due to its use in murder cases and became a bestseller, contains aconitine, known for its high toxicity among plant poisons. The root contains a particularly high amount, stimulating the central and peripheral nervous systems, and the heart, especially disrupting the myelin sheath, leading to paralysis of the respiratory muscles, which can stop breathing in about two hours. However, the varieties sold in regular flower shops are less toxic. Aconite mainly grows in the mountains of Honshu, Japan, and can be harvested. In fact, some people have mistakenly consumed it thinking it was a wild vegetable, leading to poisoning.
There are probably no cases of people committing suicide by eating salt. However, salt can also be lethal, which is quite interesting, so let me introduce it here.
To commit suicide with salt, one must consume three hundred grams (about one cup) of it. There have been cases of individuals dying after ingesting one liter (approximately 1.8 liters) of soy sauce, which is due to the fact that this soy sauce contains about fourteen percent salt.
The symptoms of salt poisoning include dizziness, confusion, rapid breathing, fever, and weakness. When consumed in large amounts, it can cause disturbances in the circulatory system, liver, and kidneys, which can be fatal. Seeing this, you may wonder why the commonly heard phrase does not appear here.

Hanging
It may seem like I am making unfounded conclusions, but there is truly no method more peaceful, reliable, and simple for committing suicide than "hanging."
There is absolutely no need to consider any other methods.
You may not believe it, but after careful investigation, no method better than hanging has been found. Below I will detail why hanging is superior to other methods, and it can even be said that hanging is a work of art conceived by humanity. Because of this, half of the suicides in Japan each year choose this method, and it has been widely adopted throughout history and across cultures. The greatest advantage of hanging is its extremely low "failure rate."
As long as the rope does not break, the branch used for the noose does not snap, and the person is not discovered within a few minutes after hanging, one could say the success rate is one hundred percent. There was a person who took poison, even performed a disembowelment but did not die, waited for a train on the tracks but did not succeed, and could not jump off a cliff to die; ultimately, they hanged themselves on a tree at the edge of the cliff.
"If you want to commit suicide, hang yourself," is something that those planning to take their o
[ Prepared ]
Simply requires just a rope The only thing you need to prepare is a rope.
Wires, belts, ropes—anything that can be wrapped around the neck will do. However, it is best to choose something soft that can fit snugly against the neck. For example, plastic straps used for packaging in department stores are sufficient even for someone weighing over a hundred kilograms.
If you use something like steel wire that has cutting power, it can result in decapitation. There was a case where someone tied one end of a steel cable used for towing vehicles to a bridge railing, then tied the other end around their neck, and jumped into the river; as a result, their head was severed and floated down the river, causing a stir over a "strange death incident." There was also a very brave company employee who tied a towing cable to a tree, wrapped the other end around their neck, and then started the vehicle, resulting in decapitation.
"Introduction to Forensic Medicine" by Nobuyuki Yasuida / published by Chuko Shinsho)
You can also do it sitting down.
As long as it is not a fragile twig that is easy to break, any rope can be used. There is also an example of a first-year middle school student hanging a five-inch nail on a bookshelf. However, it is also common to find no suitable place to tie a rope, especially in hospitals and detention centers.
However, hanging does not necessarily require the rope to be tied at a place higher than one's Although the feet or buttocks may touch the floor, it is still possible to die. There are not a few people who hang themselves from their hospital beds, and Most cases of suffocation are caused by obstruction of the trachea, while the majority of deaths occur due to cerebral hypoxia caused by interruption of blood flow to the brain.
There are two types of arteries that supply blood to the brain: the carotid arteries and the vertebral arteries, which are protected by bones next to the spine. In the case of strangulation, even if the carotid arteries are blocked, the vertebral arteries protected by bones cannot be blocked. However, in the case of hanging, the neck is pulled upward at an angle, causing both the internal and external arteries to be blocked simultaneously, and the blood supply to the brain is instantly cut off (see Figure 1). the case of hanging, there is no visible bruising.
Figure 1 summary:The figure displays two images. The image on the left shows a cucumber neck. The image on the right shows a hanging cucumber.
Now that we have clarified some basic issues, let's return to the question. When hanging, a person with a blood pressure of 170 mmHg can have their carotid artery occluded with a force of 3.5 kilograms and their vertebral artery with a force of 16.6 kilograms. If the feet are on the ground and the knees are bent to a degree where 70% to 90% of the body weight is applied to the neck (with the knees on the ground also applying 20% of the body weight), for example, a person weighing 60 kilograms hanging with their knees on the ground would exert a force of 12 kilograms on the neck, naturally occluding the carotid artery. At this point, the vertebral artery has not yet reached complete occlusion, so a small amount of blood still flows to the brain, but this is merely a matter of time, and it is several times better than simply strangling. Loss of consciousness may be slightly delayed, but there will be no cases of it ending in failure. In other words, even if the force applied to the neck is only 20% of the body weight, as long as an angle is formed in the neck, it is possible to die easily without completely suspending the body.
In fact, there are cases where the buttocks and back are on the ground (see Figure 3), and some say that a height of thirty centimeters is enough to die. In Europe and America, there are even claims that cases where the feet touch the ground are more common. If you plan to die in your own room, there is no need to feel that the height is insufficient and give up. The doorknob is also sufficient, and using the slope of the stairs is another method.
Another point to note is that while it is important to find a place that is not easily discovered, it is not necessary to find a location that would take hours or days to be discovered, as is the case with suicide by gas or drugs. If you are not discovered within ten minutes, it will be too late to save you, and if it takes several tens of minutes, it will be a complete success.
If you do not want your relatives and friends to see your body, it is best to choose a place that is somewhat far from your home and your usual commuting route to work or school. By the time your identity is confirmed and your parents find out, you will already be in a hospital or police station.
[After] In an instant, consciousness is lost, without pain.
When the rope is around your neck and you kick away the stool, hanging in mid-air, what will yo 'ding to forensic studies, once you hang, your consciousness becomes hazy, and even if you want to move your hands and feet, you cannot.
According to forensic studies, once you hang, your consciousness... Moreover, during this process, there is absolutely no pain, which is already common knowledge in the medical field. In Tokyo, an actor performed a hanging act in front of an audience. The moment he said, "Like this, crouch down..." he suddenly lost consciousness and died before the audience's eyes.
A forensic scholar wanted to experience the pain of hanging, so he placed a stool in a position where he could stand on it at any time and asked his colleagues to be present. The moment his feet left the stool, he suddenly lost consciousness, and fortunately, his colleagues saved him. Such experiences are not uncommon.
A suicide attempt survivor who was saved after hanging with an electric wire said, "My head buzzed, and I didn't know anything. I lost consciousness, and I didn't even feel the difficulty of not being able to breathe or any pain." It's not just about pain; there is also a considerable sense of relief. For example, the feeling of being thrown into unconsciousness by a chokehold in judo, or the case of a teenager who accidentally hanged himself while playing a choking game with a towel in the bathroom.
At the same time, if too much force is applied suddenly, the neck joint can dislocate, immediately leading to cardiac arrest and respiratory failure.
When hanging is mentioned, many people think of the throat being choked, suffocating to death in pain. In fact, before feeling short of breath, the brain has already experienced oxygen deprivation and lost consciousness, so there is no pain. If you doubt this statement, you might as well try hanging with a rope around your neck to see if you really lose consciousness in an instant. You will probably stop the experiment immediately because you feel more nervous and scared than you imagined as soon as you put the rope on and apply a little weight!
Ten minutes of cardiac arrest
Some scholars have further divided it into several stages for detailed research.
First is the first stage, where the head begins to feel hot and there is a ringing in the ears. Then flashes of light appear before the eyes, and the head feels hot, accompanied by tinnitus and flashes of light, which occur immediately after hanging. At the same time, perception begins to blur.
Entering the second stage after losing consciousness, the whole body experiences spasms. It is said that the hands make swimming motions, the feet make walking motions, and then the muscles in both hands and feet start to cramp, followed by the entire body becoming stiff. However, this spasm is now considered to be a slight tremor throughout the body.
This stage lasts from one to one and a half minutes. What is puzzling is that during this time, The third stage is a state of apparent death, with the release of feces and semen, bulging eyes. This period lasts about one minute, so it only takes three to three and a half minutes to reach this point. At this stage, the heart is still beating, and if discovered, there is a possibility of saving a life. After this, the heart will continue to beat for about ten minutes, and once the heart stops beating, there is no hope of rescue.
There was an American acrobat who mimicked hanging in front of an audience, and the usual arrangement was to give a signal to the assistant as soon as consciousness began to blur. One day, he suddenly lost consciousness and was unable to give the signal in time, hanging there for thirteen minutes, and by the time he was taken to the hospital, it was already too late for revival.
This means that in just about ten minutes, if not discovered, your suicide will be successful and painless. There is probably no better method of suicide than this!
[ Condition of the corpse ] Is a hanging corpse unclean?
One of the commonly mentioned drawbacks of hanging is that the appearance of the corpse is not aesthetically pleasing. Indeed, there can be instances of incontinence and ejaculation. Some say that due to the throat being constricted upwards, the tongue may protrude, the face may turn purple from congestion, and the eyeballs may bulge out, among other things.
However, such horrifying cases are rare. The eyeballs only begin to bulge out several days after death, and the tongue does not protrude when it touches the teeth. In other words, the condition of the corpse is generally just like this.
From the photos of the hanging corpse, most of it is just "slumped" there, not much different from when it was alive. As mentioned earlier, since the blood supply to the head is quickly cut off, the face generally does not show any bruising. Although the appearance is not very good, compared to corpses from jumping off buildings or car accidents, it can be said to be a decent corpse.
To prevent incontinence, one can go to the bathroom in advance. If one does not want to ejaculate, then one can masturbate first. In order to follow Emperor Showa, an eighty-seven-year-old man committed suicide on the day of his death, biting a gauze and wearing a mask, hanging himself in an orange grove. Perhaps he did not want to die too disgracefully?
[Note] The neck is very painful.
As mentioned earlier, the advantage of hanging is that the position of pulling the neck from an oblique angle causes compression of the vertebral artery. In cases where the neck is grasped by hand, it certainly cannot obstruct that artery, and thus the blood supply to the brain cannot be immediately The child loses consciousness. In the case of hanging, as mentioned in the first stage, consciousness is lost. In situations where the neck is strangled, the individual experiences the first, second, and third stages while still conscious, and only then does it become difficult to lose consciousness. The result is that the trachea becomes blocked, leading to death by asphyxiation, accompanied by cramps, which brings considerable suffering.
Even so, there are many who choke themselves to death. I can't help but feel sympathy for him. Why not put in a little effort to create a height of thirty centimeters!? A 42-year-old associate professor died from bleeding in his mouth after being gradually strang At the age of forty-three, a woman who participated in the Tokyo Olympic swimming competition lived a mundane life as a housewife, and she suffocated to death by wrapping multiple layers of tape around her mouth, nose, and neck, fully utilizing her exceptional lung capacity. A 49-year-old housewife, who was imprisoned for killing her son, choked to death in the detention center after suffocating on toilet paper lodged in her stomach and nose.
There was also a 46-year-old construction worker who swallowed about 100 grams (one roll) of toilet paper in the police station's custody room and subsequently committed suicide due to bronchial obstruction.
Of course, using such a suffocating method can also lead to death, but it comes with considerable pain, which I am unwilling to recommend.
Regarding hanging, it should also be mentioned that due to the formation of a hypoxic state in the brain, cells are destroyed, so when a suicide attempt fails, it can leave severe brain sequelae. Brain cells are different from other cells; once destroyed, they do not regenerate. Therefore, it is necessary to make meticulous arrangements that go undetected.
[ Case Study 4 ] The Tragedy of a Failed Hanging: Frank Nagai
In October 1985, singer Frank Nagai (then fifty-three years old) returned home around ten o'clock after a performance, had a little beer with his wife, and went to bed around ten-thirty. However, by midnight, he had not returned after leaving the bedroom for a long time. When his wife went to look for him, she found him hanging from the handrail of the spiral staircase between the first and second floors, with four or five belts tied around his neck, around three o'clock in the morning.
When the ambulance arrived, Mr. Nagai had no breathing or pulse and was unconscious there. By the time he was taken to the hospital, his pupils were dilated, and he was in a state of "impending brain death."
However, miraculously, after four or five days, he regained consciousness. A month later, he could say a few words, and when shown the title of the song "Kimi," he still recognized the character "君." Later, he also regained the ability to write the two characters "Chinese text."
He was hospitalized and discharged multiple times afterward, and now he can take some walks and sing familiar songs using karaoke, showing further recovery. Nevertheless, he still cannot recognize his wife and friends who come to visit him, resembling a state of senile dementia, and in 1989, he became a ward of the state.
When he shared this experience with his friend Taro Danbo, he said the following:
As soon as I was hanged, I experienced difficulty breathing, and my vision instantly turned red before becoming pitch black. I saw my face distorted in the air and gradually began to hear a wonderful sound. The sound grew louder, disappearing into the darkness of the tunnel. Suddenly, I felt myself rising, floating through walls and doors, and I could see the situation in the lower realm. I suddenly noticed that I was standing on flat ground, hearing beautiful music from the garden in front of me, as well as the voices of deceased friends and relatives, driven by feelings of nostalgia and reunion, I walked forward into the past. There was a fork in the river, but an unknown force pulled me back.
Mr. Nagai attempted suicide because his former lover claimed that the child she bore was theirs, which caused him distress over the demand for child support.
[ Inspection of this case ]
The extremely sensational attempted hanging case is probably just this one example. Even if it is considered a hundred percent successful hanging, if it is discovered quickly, it will not succeed.
From the perspective of the stopped pulse, the aforementioned case may have been hanging for more than ten minutes.
However, some experts believe that "based on the current recovery status, the time of discovery was just three to four minutes after hanging, with the feet and buttocks likely touching the ground. However, even if life is saved, the damaged brain nerves will not recover."
What kind of sequelae will it leave behind? Mr. Nagai's situation has already illustrated this. The nerve cells in the brain begin to deteriorate the moment blood circulation ceases. This is very frightening; a failed hanging attempt is terrifying!
According to what he said, he lost consciousness in an instant (usually horizontally), and his vision turned red before becoming pitch black.
The subsequent wonderful experience can be referred to as a "near-death experience." It is said that many people who are near death have...
[ Case Study 5 ]
The 91-centimeter tall hanging of the highest-ranking member of the Red Army, Mori Takemitsu On January 1, 1973, Mori Takemitsu (then 28 years old) hanged himself in a solitary confinement cell at the Tokyo Detention Center. He was a member of the armed revolutionary group formed in January 1972. His "gunism" advocated that success could only be achieved through armed revolution, and he conducted armed training in the Gunma Prefecture Mountain Underground Command. He was arrested in February 1972. He confessed to the fact that he had committed murder for the reason of "twelve Red Army fighters" and "action is not revolutionary." In September, he was transferred to the Tokyo Detention Center, awaiting trial. This incident of extrajudicial torture and murder of twelve people shocked Japanese society, more so than the incident of the fleeing Red Army soldiers occupying the Asama Sanso, leading people to feel the "madness within the closed group."
On the first day of January in the second year, as usual, Senator Hengfu finished both breakfast and lunch. At 1:38 P.M, the patrolling guard still saw him sitting on the tatami reading. However, fourteen minutes later, at 1:52 P.M, when the guard checked the solitary confinement cell again, he had tied a knot with a 60-centimeter-long towel on the 91-centimeter-high iron bars and hanaged himself.
The doctor rushed to administer a stimulant and performed artificial respiration, but it was a
It is said that he tied his legs with the clothes nearby, forming a "T" shape hanging there, and some people also said that the position of his body when he died resembled "someone about to sit down." The analysis of this suicide is that at the moment of suicide, "he kicked his tied legs forcefully into the air, thus the weight was applied to the towel, choking his neck." When discovered, he had already lost consciousness, but the veins were unchanged from when he was alive, and there was no sign of bleeding or incontinence.
He left behind two sealed letters, reportedly acknowledging the errors of weaponism. It is also said that he began reading the Bible a few months before his suicide and developed a great interest in Christianity.
[Cause of Death Examination]
Did his buttocks touch the ground?
He was a small man, standing at 163 centimeters tall and weighing 54 kilograms, using a towel that was 60 centimeters long, which was also quite short. When the towel was tied around his neck, it would press tightly against it. Coincidentally, he had a long torso, and with the towel tightening around his neck, it is possible that his buttocks never touched the ground. In other words, a man weighing 54 kilograms, with his feet on the ground and his back against the wall, would not be able to regain consciousness within fourteen minutes. This serves as strong evidence that hanging can lead to death quickly and simply.
That said, the relentless efforts and hardships endured for the sake of revolution ultimately led to the abandonment of long-held beliefs, and a return to faith in the divine. However, it is truly tragic that he could not be saved and ended up taking his own life. Nevertheless, even though this happened twenty years ago, it is believed that the revolution itself is far more insane than the extrajudicial killing of twelve accomplices.
[Case Study 6] Women Rescued from Hanging in a Psychiatric Hospital
On May 17, 1982, at 4:45 P.M, in a psychiatric hospital, a female patient became agitated and shouted, "Kill me!" She was then taken to a protective room. Forty minutes later, at 5:25 P.M, she climbed up on a window frame made of several stacked blankets and hanged herself with a towel. When discovered, her breathing and heartbeat had stopped. She was rescued and given artificial respiration, along with cardiac stimulants, and after five minutes, she began to breathe spontaneously and had a weak pulse.
Despite this, she remained unconscious for two full days, and on the third day, she finally responded to stimuli. By the fourth day, she regained consciousness, and a week later, she was able to consume liquid food. Starting from the second week, she underwent "self-rehabilitation training," and after another two weeks, she was able to live collectively with other patients. However, her memory had diminished, she lost her previous enthusiasm, and she often hid behind others, becoming more dependent on the caregivers.
This woman lived in this hospital for thirteen years after she turned twenty-six, and before that, she was in He had been hospitalized in a psychiatric hospital three times. After being discharged in 1979, he worked at a nearby general hospital but gave up the job due to conflicts with male staff members, and then cohabited with another man. Soon after, he stopped eating and shouted, "Just kill me!"
After two years, he was hospitalized again. The hanging occurred six months later, marking his third suicide attempt.
Her experience includes working for six years in a towel factory after graduating from high school, getting married at twenty-three, divorcing in the second year, and giving birth to a boy who died shortly after.
Additionally, among her five sisters, four, including herself, have attempted or committed suicide.
[ Inspection of this case ]
As the nurses said: "It is rare for medical personnel to respond quickly upon discovery, making resuscitation a rare occurrence"; it is also a rare case where the heart stopped but did not reach death. From the blank forty minutes, subtracting the time spent stacking blankets, she was discovered approximately fifteen minutes after the hanging, just as the heart had stopped.
Although there were forty minutes and sufficient height, it did not result in death, which forms a stark contrast to the case of Morihara. In hospitals or dormitories, due to surveillance, suicide attempts are difficult to detect in time, especially in hospitals where emergency facilities are fully equipped, making it even more challenging.
From these attempted cases, one might think that hanging is not that simple. However, these are all extremely rare cases. Considering that over ten thousand people die from hanging each year, and the success rate is nearly one hundred percent, hanging still reigns as the leading method of suicide. this is truly a "living hell." Looking at the residual effects left behind, perhaps it would have been better not to save her.

[ History ]
In the Sea of Trees, suicides occur at a rate of "about thirty people each year, with little fluctuation" (Fujiyoshida Police Station). Most other "suicide hotspots" have become a thing of the past, but the Sea of Trees stands out as a suicide location, as indicated by the above point.
Originally, the Sea of Trees was a suicide hotspot, but it gained notoriety when dozens of people began to commit suicide here each year, mainly due to the 1957 novel "Tower of Waves" by Seicho Matsumoto, which was set against the backdrop of the Sea of Trees and adapted into a television drama.
[ Routes Where Bodies Cannot Be Found ]
Generally speaking, once you enter the Sea of Trees, you will immediately lose your sense of direction and cannot find your way out. Therefore, it doesn't matter where you enter, but here we will introduce the routes where bodies are always not found.
The most common way is to enter from near the "Wind Cave". At the Wind Cave bus stop of the Fujikyu Rapid Bus (as mentioned on page get there, refer to the traffic section) after getting off the bus, you can see the road leading to the entrance of the Wind Cave on the south side of National Route 139. Walking straight ahead will lead you to the ticket office of the Wind Cave. However, do not enter the Wind Cave; in front of the ticket office, there are two paths, and you should take the left path to the Aokigahara Nature Trail.
Walk forward for about three hundred meters, and there will be a fork in the road. Take the left path that is marked "Ice Cave · Red Leaf Platform." In front, there is a sign that says "You only have one life, cherish it," but don't take it too seriously.

Fujiyama Forest Road; rope blocking the way forward Inside the virgin forest; coming here means you can die in peace
Walk about three hundred meters further to find the road
The sign on the left reads "Red Leaf Platform - Ice Cave," while the right side says "Mountain Path." On the side of the mountain path, there is also a piece of lead plate lying there, stating, "Life is a precious gift from parents! Think again about your parents, siblings, and children!" Ignore it. Reaching this point inevitably causes a bit of hesitation; you can decide whether to turn back, as the compass still works, and going further leads into the rich Yuelin Path.
This mountain road is quite ordinary, and for those with climbing experience, it is nothing special. However, surrounded by dense forests, the scenery remains unchanged, gradually leading one to doubt how far they have walked and where they are!
The mountain road generally extends southward. After walking for about fifteen more minutes, the road no longer resembles a road, and the trees surrounding it look somewhat like a primeval forest. At this point, walk another fifteen minutes forward.
From now on, you can enter the forest from any direction, but it is best to go to the right.
Manual Walk about a kilometer forward, and you will gradually see a dense forest. Continue walking for about another kilometer, and you will reach the primeval forest. Take the left fork along this road and try to walk deeper in. After that, just keep going straight.
In this area, not to mention the locals, even suicide volunteers rarely come here. Locals say that the fork is the area where "it's hardest to find a body."
Another way is to get off at the "Ak池" stop of the Fujikyu bus, walk along the asphalt road towards the Chinese text mountain trail, and after walking one to two kilometers, turn right into the fork. Here, neither locals nor tourists will find the body. Both methods require a considerable amount of time to traverse, but entering through the wind hole has a higher reliability in finding the body. Since general tourists do not come to this place, one must be careful not to raise suspicion when entering.
● If you walk another hundred meters, you won't be able to turn back. In the original forest, everywhere there are tangled tree roots, moss, and fallen leaves covering the holes, making it impossible to move forward in a straight line. Thinking that I remembered the way, after walking more than a hundred meters, I still couldn't figure out the direction at all. If I had a compass, I would just throw it away, as there's no way to return to the starting point anyway.
In the Sea of Trees, the most suitable method is to use hanging, which has a very high mortality rate; all you need is a rope. However, the trees here are very tall, making it quite difficult to find a suitable one. In order to find a tree, you will venture further away from the road, making it even harder for people to find you. Thus, you will disappear forever from people's memories.
[ Note ]
☑ Large-scale searches will be
conducted Every October, over six hundred local firefighters and police conduct a large-scale search for bodies along the Z path shown in Figure 1. This means that if a suicide occurs in the middle section of the road between the national highway and the south side of West Lake, the body will still be discovered. Even if one walks along the natural trail within five hundred meters on either side of the national highway, the same applies. In recent years, the bodies discovered during these large-scale searches include three in 1989 (one of which was female), none in 1990, five in 1991 (two of which were female), and in 1992, no search was conducted due to a murder incident near a wind hole. In summary, absolutely do not enter this area.
By the way, when family members commission a search, the cost for searching for one person per day is 10,000 yen. In other words, if fifty people are mobilized, takes two days to search for a person, and it costs one million yen.
●Beware of the Self-Defense Forces!
Every March, near the entrance of the wind cave, the Self-Defense Forces conduct a column marching training in the dense forest around the Kande Dojo. It is said that most of the bodies not discovered during the large search are found at this time. Therefore, it is still not advisable to choose the area from the south of the wind cave to the Kande Dojo.
● Do not arouse suspicion from
the locals Those who have lived in the area for a long time can easily identify a suicide seeker at a glance. It is believed that just carrying a small bag or not taking photos are characteristics, but more importantly, it relies on intuition. When you try to walk into the Sea of Trees, the locals will greet you and say, "Do you know what this place is?" and try to persuade you. Even if you say, "Let me die," they will not listen. After more than forty minutes of persuasion, some ultimately yield and are pulled back.
Therefore, first of all, do not create this kind of atmosphere. However, pretending to be happy at the moment of crisis is also a bit ridiculous. Before entering the Sea of Trees, do not dawdle or hesitate; walk in confidently, and the locals will not suspect you have come this way. Because even locals find it difficult to return after walking just a hundred meters, this is the truth.
● Do not underestimate the monk
It is said that there is a mysterious monk living in the Kande Temple. The house is ordinary, but he can often be seen driving to buy things in a remote area, yet even the locals cannot figure out how he sustains his life. Since you cannot underestimate his presence, it is best to avoid walking into this area.
From Mishima Station on the J.R Line, take the Fujikyu Bus to Fujiyoshida, which takes about two hours. Then transfer to another Fujikyu Bus to the entrance of the Red Leaves Plateau and Wind Cave, which takes about thirty to forty minutes. Buses run once an hour. It is important to note that the bus schedule is reduced in winter.
Of course, there is no need for accommodation, but for convenience, here are some recommendations. There are many guesthouses on the south side of Lake Sai, operating year-round, making it the most convenient option. From here to the Wind Cave bus station, it takes about an hour by Fujikyu Rapid Bus. You can stay at the Karamatsu-kan near the entrance to the mountain path.
[ Case Study 7 ]
A man living a wandering life in the Sea of Trees A 31-year-old male company employee was protected by the police after wandering in the Sea of Trees for sixteen days in November 1983.
He left his home in Yokohama in late September due to troubles at work and personal issues. After wandering for over a month in his hometown of Aichi Prefecture and the Tohoku region, he decided to commit suicide, sending a farewell letter to his family. On October 26, he entered the Sea of Trees from the Red Leaves Plateau in Narusawa Village.
In the first week, he searched everywhere for a suitable place to commit suicide. Sometimes he almost hanged himself but encountered mushroom pickers, which gradually diminished his desire to die. Thus, he occasionally went to the national highway to buy some bread, sometimes ate at a rest area, and then returned to the Sea of Trees, living a life like a drifter. Eventually, unable to withstand the cold rain, he stayed at a guesthouse by Lake Sai on November 10 and called his family.
The local police station and fire department. commissioned by his family, mobilized over 150 people for a three-day search, and in fact, this man was aware that a search was underway.
After being protected, he said, "I will not think about suicide anymore."
[ Examination Status ]
Even if one steps further into the "primitive forest of death" from which there is no return, if the route taken is inappropriate, it can lead to such an outcome. He was probably active in the area between the southern road of the west and the National Route 8, around the red leaf platform and Ryugu Cave. This is a hiking trail with resting spots and ranches. It is also common to encounter mushroom pickers. If one truly wants to die, this area is not suitable.
Having long since diminished the desire for death, he still continued into the sea of trees, living in the sea of trees for nearly ten days, which indeed sounds like a joke. It is uncertain whether it is a dangerous life in the sea of trees or a pleasant one.
For the suicide volunteers in the sea of trees, his actions provide valuable information that "even if one enters the sea of trees, one can survive for a week without eating or drinking."

Jumping off a building
Jumping off a building and jumping off a cliff is painless.
No pain, no anxiety, and certainly no terror. Not only that, it can even be considered quite refre This is not a metaphor; it is indeed the case. It sounds a bit nonsensical, but if you combine the words of those who have "fallen," this is the only way to put it.
Regarding this, I will elaborate further below; however, in this way, jumping off a building and jumping off a cliff can Jumping off a building and jumping off a cliff do not carry the shadows associated with other su The person who fundamentally changed the concepts of jumping from buildings and cliffs for suicide is a girl named Kayo Sato. Ninety years ago, in 1903, she left behind the phrase "The truth of all things can be summed up in one word: 'unresolvable'." The young man who jumped from the Kegon Falls, Masao Fujimura, endowed suicide itself with a noble philosophical image that was different from the past. Just like the continuous emergence of successors, Kayo Sato also gave a certain sacred image to falling suicides, attracting one follower after another, even leading to myths such as "she fell down, she jumped." Kayo Sato is the real name of the popular singer Yukiko Okada.
Perhaps for this reason, regardless of gender or age, the method of jumping from buildings or cliffs is second only to hanging, especially among young people and girls who prefer this method. This method has shown an upward trend, with 50% of female suicides, including girls in their teens, being falls, far ahead of other suicide methods.
The earliest jumper is said to be a male employee of a company who jumped from the rooftop of the Matsuzakaya department store in Ginza in 1935. The shift from the Kegon Falls or the Nishinokubo to the high-rise buildings represented by the Takashimadaira community is closely related to urbanization and is one of the phenomena of urban modernization. Okada, page 38.
The day after Yukiko Okada's suicide, on April 11, 1986, an eighteen-year-old girl, holding her sister's hand, jumped from the rooftop of their community, leaving behind the words "to be able to realize my superpower from my past life."
[ Prepared ] Need a height of twenty meters from the ground.
When jumping from a high building, it is necessary to check the required height and the conditi There are many suicide attempts that fail, mostly because the necessary height could not be en
If you really want to die, you should jump from a height of more than twenty meters from the ground, which is about seven to eight stories high. If the ground is concrete, there is no chance of survival. Jumping from the fourth floor has a success rate of only about 50%. As a side note, each additional floor adds three meters, which can be used as a basis for conversion.
Checking the landing site is also very important; it is not acceptable to have small bushes below. A sixteen-year-old girl who jumped from the rooftop of a five-story school building, about eighteen feet high, into bushes below only sustained serious injuries. In the United States, someone fell from a height of twenty-eight meters into a flower bed and only suffered a broken rib and a fractured left wrist.
It is also not allowed to have trees or streetlights below. A 17-year-old female high school student jumped from the 14th floor of the Taihei Building, which is 35 meters high, and only suffered serious injuries that required six months of hospitalization; the result was a suicide attempt. There was a green area below, and without saying a word, the wind caused the coat she was wearing over her uniform to inflate like a parachute as she fell, and she collided with a maple tree in mid-air, thus avoiding disaster.
A reporter from a news agency jumped from the 7th floor of a business hotel in Shinjuku and landed on the ground after hitting a streetlight in mid-air, resulting in fractures of his left shoulder and pelvis but he did not die. At that time, he did not lose consciousness and was muttering "damn it, damn it" while answering questions from the arriving police.
Vehicles can sometimes act as cushions. In Nagoya, a 40-year-old man jumped from the roof of a 33-meter-high department store and fell onto the hood of a car in a prone position, sustaining facial contusions and a right shoulder fracture that required three months of recovery.
Furthermore, it is also not allowed to jump onto the zinc roof of a parking lot below. To avoid being prohibited from keeping a stray kitten at home, a 14-year-old girl jumped from the 11th floor while tightly holding the kitten, causing a large section of the zinc roof of the parking lot to break, resulting in three broken ribs and serious injuries, but both she and the kitten survived.
Although these are special cases, in a plane accident in the United States, someone fell from a height of 370 meters onto a snowy area and survived, except for a broken waist and several ribs. Therefore, attention should also be paid to snow accumulation.
Finding inconspicuous places
To avoid being quickly discovered and sent to the hospital, finding an inconspicuous place is also a primary consideration. A female university student who jumped from between the Marunouchi Building and a neighboring building was not discovered until a year later; the term "not very conspicuous" refers to a place that will only be discovered after some time has passed. When retrieving the body of a student who jumped from the roof next to the stone wall under Building 7 of Sophia University, the body of another student who had been missing for half a year was accidentally found; of course, such cases are extremely rare.
Choosing a scenic spot for jumping off a cliff
Jumping off a cliff is sometimes unreliable. Two middle school female students jumped off a 60-meter-high cliff to commit suicide; one died while the other was saved. Under the same conditions, the outcomes can vary greatly.
Moreover, regardless of how steep the cliff is, falling into the sea does not necessarily mean death. Therefore, in such cases, choose a scenic spot. Scenic spots exist for a reason, which is why they are considered scenic.
If choosing a cliff, there are options like Cape Ashizuri in Shikoku, Nishikiba in Atami, and waterfalls like the Kegon Falls to choose from.
[After]
No painful way to die!
What people are most curious about is what it feels like during the fall and whether there is any pain upon hitting the ground.
A 54-year-old man who survived a jump from the fourth floor said, "There was no feeling of fear; it felt very natural as my whole body went over the balcony railing. I can't remember whether I felt pain when I hit the ground, but I knew I had fallen to the ground." Regarding the feeling while still falling through the air, he said: "During the process of jumping to the ground, although it was a natural thing, I still thought about whether my head or feet would hit the ground first.
I probably didn't want my face to hit the ground, so I naturally covered my face with my hands." A man who fell from a height onto an icy riverbank and survived said, "It felt like sitting on a giant wing, slowly descending. I calmly thought about myself and my family's future, and many memories flashed through my mind like lightning. After hitting the ground, I lost consciousness without any pain." …though my head and hands and feet collided with the rocks or ice, and I had multiple bruises, I didn't feel anything. I can say there was no moment more exhilarating than this one!
This kind of incident where one falls due to an accident is countless. The commonality of these experiences is that the descent begins slowly, with a very clear perception, completely devoid of anxiety and terror, almost like being in a dream. At this moment, childhood memories often roll through the mind like a revolving lantern, sometimes accompanied by mysterious lights, and at times one may even see themselves falling from above. Upon landing, consciousness is lost in a state of calm.
The vast majority of those who jump from buildings or cliffs do not scream or shout loudly, likely for this reason. One faller said, "I really want to emphasize that dying from a high fall is the least painful way to die." Another faller even stated, "That was a perfect death, with no pain at all; it hurts much more than getting a shot." Therefore, it can be said that jumping from buildings or cliffs is painless.
● Figure 1: The relationship between height and impact speed ☐
A girl crying out "It hurts! It hurts!" as she dies Of course, there are exceptions.
"I'm going to commit suicide now, goodbye!" A female high school student who had just been sitting on the fourth-floor window suddenly jumped down. When she was picked up, she repeatedly cried softly, "It hurts so much, it hurts so much!" She had broken her neck and died shortly after being taken to the hospital.
The reason is clear: the height of the fourth floor is not high enough. To avoid the sensation of pain, one should choose a height that can result in immediate death or at least unconsciousness. Additionally, a woman in her thirties jumped from the thirty-fifth floor of the Sumitomo Triangle Building in Shinjuku, falling from a height of 140 meters. She extended her arms horizontally, falling in a diving position, and her face and head were shattered upon impact, resulting in immediate death.
At that moment, witnesses heard a scream of "Wow—" There was also a seventeen-year-old high school girl who screamed while jumping from the eleventh floor. It is possible that both of these individuals felt terror when jumping from the building.
From a physics perspective, when jumping from a height of twenty meters (about seven stories), one falls 4.9 meters in one second. At this point, the speed is 35.5 kilometers per hour, and one can reach the ground in about two seconds. In those brief two seconds, one tumbles in various positions, reaching a speed of about seventy kilometers per hour upon landing.
One can imagine that when riding a motorcycle or in a car, crashing into a wall at this speed is not as impactful as one might think. However, falling from a greater height results in significant impact upon landing.
There is an unbelievable case, such as a female high school student who jumped from the eleventh-floor apartment roof and actually split a sewer cover in half upon landing.
Jumping off a cliff
When jumping down from a cliff, due to the surrounding natural environment, various different situations can arise. Although it is somewhat uncertain, there are still many cases of death due to violent collisions. There are numerous instances of fatalities from hitting rocks while falling into the sea or a waterfall. For example, the comedian Nakada Haruo, who committed suicide in Atami Kinpo, died from internal injuries after violently crashing against the cliff rocks during his fall.
Similarly, a thirteen-year-old boy who jumped from Kinpo suffered multiple bruises and died on the spot. Of course, if one falls into the sea or a lake, there is also the possibility of drowning.
[ Condition of the Body ]
There are injuries everywhere, but it is not too gruesome to look at.
Just as the fifty-four-year-old man thought after jumping, which part of the body would actually hit the ground first?
Research by a medical expert suggests that when committing suicide by jumping from a building, it seems that the feet hit the ground first most often. When the feet hit the ground first, sixty percent of people have head injuries, thirty percent have spinal fractures, and the damage to the liver and lungs is twenty percent each, with heart damage at twenty-five percent.
Next is when the head hits the ground, which results in skull fractures, brain injuries, and rib fractures, with more common occurrences of arm, spine fractures, and lung injuries. Following that are cases where the buttocks hit the ground and horizontal falls. Therefore, regardless of which part hits the ground first, multiple injuries will occur.
Among those who jump from buildings or cliffs, nearly seventy percent have injuries to three or more areas, including the head, abdomen, hands, and feet. In summary, injuries can occur all over the body, with the head and chest being the most commonly injured areas, accounting for over seventy percent of fatal injuries. The heart is also subject to significant vibration due to inertia when the body falls, leading to a higher incidence of aortic rupture.
Consequently, deaths occur due to skull fractures, extensive bruising, internal organ rupture, and excessive bleeding.
Perhaps there are bodies that are unwilling to be seen in such a gruesome state, but once discovered, the ambulance quickly arrives and swiftly takes the body away. In cases where the body lands on its buttocks, sometimes there are hardly any visible signs of injury (Case 9). Therefore, suicide by jumping from a building is not such a horrific way to die.
[Attention]
Beware of pedestrians!
If there are people in the landing area, it can lead to many troublesome issues.
There have been several cases where individuals survived by landing on pedestrians, and the injured parties underneath would seek substantial compensation. For instance, a high school student from a communication school in Saitama Prefecture jumped from a department store rooftop and landed on a car parked below. While the student died, the man sitting in the car also suffered a broken neck, leading to chest The following paralysis results in a compensation of 200 million yen to the deceased's family.
A recent case involved a man who jumped from the eighth floor of an apartment in November 1992, landing on a high school student who was talking to his girlfriend below. The jumper died shortly after, and the student also passed away four days later.
Jumping onto someone else is certainly not a good thing, and this should be noted.
A 51-year-old company executive wanted to jump from the top floor of an apartment, but upon seeing several children A 51-year-old company executive wanted to jump from the top floor of an apartment, but upon seeing several children playing below, he held onto the railing of the 14th-floor corridor with his hands behind his back and shouted, "Get away! Get away!" He only jumped after the children dispersed, successfully achieving his goal. Given the height of the 14th floor, his shouting must have been quite loud. If you don't want to cause trouble for your family, please pay special attention.
Head Down
Even from a considerable height, one can be saved; conversely, there are cases of death from relatively low heights. There have been instances of people dying from skull fractures after falling from a height of six meters into a river, and others who fell from a five-meter-high pedestrian bridge onto the road and died an hour and a half later from head injuries. To avoid failure, one should jump headfirst. If done skillfully, a height of five meters can result in immediate death.
Additionally, even if the impact does not hit a fatal area, one can still die due to special circumstances. A 50-year-old woman fell from the fourth-floor balcony of an apartment, suffering multiple fractures in her spine, but died from systemic contusion syndrome.
A man jumped from the third floor of a dormitory and died twenty days later from pulmonary h
[ Case Study 8 ]
A university student who attempted suicide by jumping from the fifteenth floor described the feeling during the fall. In October 1986, a 21-year-old junior from a university jumped from the top floor of a fifteen-story apartment in Urawa City, Saitama Prefecture. With a "thud," he landed on the iron roof of a bicycle shed. He was immediately taken to the hospital, but apart from a minor injury to his left foot, he had no other injuries. The bicycle shed roof where he fell left a large hole in the shape of a letter "T."
This person calmly recounted his feelings while in mid-air: "As I was falling, I felt my shoes and glasses slowly slipping away. After landing on the roof, I suddenly thought, 'Ah! I'm still alive.'" He also mentioned a slight stutter, worrying that he might not pass job interviews in his second year.
[ Inspection of this case ]
This is a rare account of the "state of mind while in the air" from someone who survived a jump from a height. The fifteenth floor is about 40 meters high, and jumping from this height can feel slow and calm, with no sense of terror or pain upon landing. It is truly a miracle to fall from the fifteenth floor and sustain almost no injuries. Therefore, those determined to commit suicide should also avoid the bicycle shed roof.
When he hit the ground, there was a loud "thud." So, what kind of sound would a person jumping from a height make? It might be worth investigating.
Of course, the sound varies depending on where one falls. If the ground is muddy, the aforementioned female high school student who fell from the fifteenth-floor apartment made a "thud" sound. A man who fell from a fourth-floor apartment window made a sound "like a deflating balloon."
The woman who jumped from the Sumitomo Triangle Building made a "plop" sound. If someone falls onto another person, it sounds like the aforementioned Yokohama high school student, who made a sound "like a rubber ball bouncing on the ground." Yukiko Okada, who fell from a twenty-meter rooftop, reportedly made a loud "thud," possibly due to her skull violently hitting the muddy ground.
[ Case Study 9 ]
The manga artist Hanako Yamada, who thought "life is boring anyway." On May 24, 1992, manga artist Hanako Yamada (then 24 years old) jumped from the eleventh floor of an apartment near her home in Toma City, Tokyo, to commit suicide. Because she landed on her waist, her body was relatively intact, and there was little bleeding, even her parents were surprised, asking, "Did she She was introverted since elementary school, preferring to stay at home. In her second year of junior high, she attempted to commit suicide using gas due to bullying. In high school, she continued to be bullied and dropped out after a year. Later, she became a manga artist, with works serialized in "Seinen Magazine," but received little acclaim in the art world. Soon, her serialized works were no longer published, and she ended up publishing in a magazine that did not pay for contributions. Unable to make a living solely from manga, she worked as a waitress in a tea house.
However, she struggled to remember many of the customers' orders and was dismissed for not being efficient, facing bullying at work as well. After barely managing to work for half a year at a restaurant, she was let go, and after this series of setbacks, her mental state deteriorated. She went to a late-night restaurant and begged, "Please hire me again!" and forced herself to work, staying up all night.
Eventually, the restaurant could no longer tolerate her behavior and reported her to the police after half a month. Her parents took her home. In the taxi on the way home, she reportedly cried while saying, "Everyone bullies me," but in reality, she was laughing; she was suffering from schizophrenia. Soon after, she was admitted to a psychiatric hospital and was discharged two months later, but she lost confidence in her future. The day after her discharge, she fell to her death from an apartment near her home.
Two days before her suicide, she wrote in her diary: "I don't get along well with others. I have a quirky personality and no friends at all. ... I can't see the future and can't find a job. (Being bullied) ... I don't want to do anything anymore. Everything is so exhausting, I have no energy, and I'm very tired." In fact, this is the note she left behind.

●(C) "Sighing Angel" Hanako Yamada (Seirindo)
[ Condition of the Body ]
The body of the person who jumped to their death was a horrific sight, especially the condition of the head upon impact. In cases like the one where the waist hits the ground first, the face may remain intact. However, if the legs hit the ground first, they may be twisted due to fractures, which is indeed hard to look at.
Comic artist killed by "gaze terror"
Here, we should note that Hanako Yamada was bullied everywhere she went. No matter where she was, the "guy" who was bullied was always bullied, and she herself proved this fact. Moreover, most of the content in her "diary comics" expressed her particular concern about "how others perceive her" in school or the workplace. From this, it can also be seen that she was born with a condition known as "gaze phobia."
●(C) "Sighing Angel" Hanako Yamada (Seirindo)
She herself said she had "anthophobia," and just like how she had to wear sunglasses when going out, her life was spent in an endless fear of others' gazes. Coupled with being bullied, she eventually developed schizophrenia and committed suicide. Who could have imagined how great her troubles were? Those who are introverted, not good at handling affairs cleanly and decisively, are not suited to survive in a society like Japan. A suicide researcher from 19th century Italy once said: "Suicide is a means of naturally eliminating those who are not physically and mentally healthy in the survival competition of nature." This is indeed true; Hanako Yamada was also "eliminated" in silence.
Her views on suicide during her lifetime are also worth mentioning. In her comics, she quoted lines from the movie "Heaven's Happiness" as follows:
"If you have no strengths and are annoying, you might as well die! Don't say those bad things / Living is unproductive / Rather than muddling through, it's better to make a big fuss / Living is boring anyway."
Additionally, in other magazines, it was written as follows: "This world is inherently cruel."
"Disabled people, laugh! Shout! Curse your fate! This is how your life is. If you feel disgusted, go ahead and commit suicide."
Her heartfelt words about being helpless can only be spoken by someone who has lived through the sea of misfortune. Indeed, there are misfortunes that cannot be overcome in this world. She articulates this fact, which aligns with the purpose of this book.
[ Case Study 10 ]
A middle school student who committed suicide by jumping due to bullying On September 9, 1979, in the courtyard of an apartment in Fukuoka City, Saitama Prefecture, a first-year middle school student (then twelve years old) was found dead, dressed in a karate uniform, lying in a "big" shape. He jumped from the tenth floor of an apartment about two kilometers from his home to the muddy ground twenty meters below. The reason for the suicide was bullying.
This student, who was quite cheerful in elementary school, got into fights with others shortly after entering middle school over trivial matters. At only 142 centimeters tall, he was the shortest in his class and was excluded by his classmates, who said, "Though he is small, he is quite tough." He had no one to talk to and remained silent every day, eventually earning the nickname "Wall." He was often mocked with remarks like, "You are the wall; just face the wall."
On the evening of June 18 of the same year, the teenager left a suicide note on his desk and then disappeared. The note read, "I am bullied every day, I don't want to go to school anymore. I don't want to live anymore. I want to commit suicide."
However, that night around eight o'clock, the teenager returned home, drenched in sweat. It was later said that he had intended to jump from the rooftop of his apartment but ran back out of fear, and the sweat was due to running too fast. The news of his suicide attempt leaked out, and the troublemakers in his class bullied him even more severely. He got a new nickname, "Suicide Kid," and because his father used to be a train cleaner, he was mocked as "filthy," "smelly," and "like a beggar." Sometimes he was treated as a thief and had mayonnaise smeared all over his face.
He could no longer endure the bullying. The day before his suicide, he skipped school for the first time, and the next day was Sunday, when he took his own life. The karate uniform he wore that day was the one he started wearing after his suicide attempt, and it was also the first day he wore it.
The troublemakers who knew he had committed suicide even shouted "Long live!" As for their reasons for bullying him, they said it was "boring" and "fun."
When the teenager first attempted suicide, he was so scared that he ran back home. Generally speaking, people who decide to commit suicide are calm even when standing at a height and are not afraid, but this is not always the case. A twenty-four-year-old woman wanted to commit suicide by climbing a mountain that was 1,713 meters high, but when she got close to the cliff at the top, she became afraid and did not dare to jump. She could not come down and lay there for three days and nights in the wind and rain without food or drink, waiting for rescue.
This happened at the end of August, when the nighttime temperature dropped to six to seven degrees, and she was only wearing a light jacket. It seems that at that moment, deciding to die might have felt more comfortable.
Those who are bullied are always bullied no matter what they do.
Hanako Yamada's case is similar; one can only say that being bullied is unavoidable. No matter what the bullied person does, they will always be bullied. Whether it's practicing karate or attempting suicide, it not only has no effect but also worsens the situation. In a class where there is no common goal and only interpersonal relationships, all that can be done is to imitate love games and bully others.
It is said that the father once advised his son, who was in the first year of middle school, saying, "Just hold on for another two and a half years." But no one can guarantee that happiness will come after graduating from middle school, and entering high school does not necessarily bring about change.
Moreover, considering that he has to endure another two and a half years, the choice he made can be said to be correct. It would be much better than dying from a fall when he first climbed the apartment.
It is also important to commit suicide early.

In fact, in response to the jumping incidents around 1980, for the seventeen high-rise buildings over eleven stories, railings were installed on the external corridors and staircases from the third floor upwards to prevent jumping, and the windows were fitted with locks. The rooftop staircases were secured with locked iron gates. It can now be said that jumping is completely impossible. The area, once known as a suicide hotspot, has become an unusual sight with its iron railings due to the complete installation of suicide prevention devices.
The community was completed in 1973 and was once praised as the largest in Japan; it still appears to be a grand-scale community today. That year, there were five jumping incidents, but the community became famous for the mother and her two children who committed suicide by jumping in 1977. This led to the community being referred to as a "suicide sanctuary," with more than ten suicides each year, surpassing twenty in 1980, and reaching a total of one hundred by 1982.
Over eighty percent of the suicides were committed by "expeditionary suicides" from places like Shizuoka and Niigata. Some even bought ladders specifically to climb over the outer railings, with a suicide occurring every three days during peak seasons.
In response, in 1981, seven hundred million yen was spent on installing steel fences and setting up "emergency phones" within the community, which was quite an effort at the time. Despite this, there were still cases of a nineteen-year-old and an eighteen-year-old smashing windows with benches and climbing onto rooftops to commit suicide. However, perhaps this couple prompted even greater measures to be taken. Officials stated: "In the last seven years since the establishment of the Takashimadaira Police Station, incidents have occurred only every two to three years, as the installation of railings has made it almost unheard of for someone to commit suicide."

It seems that the community has completely blocked off jumping, yet for some reason, Block 3 to 11 (refer to the map) is completely unprotected. Especially in Building 1 of 3 to 11, outsiders can freely enter and exit the external corridors from the first to the fourteenth floor, with only a one-meter high low fence, making it a situation that even residents would fear. In Buildings 2 to 6 of 3 to 11, the windows on the stairwell landing do not have locking devices, and as long as one climbs over a low wall of about 150 centimeters, they can easily jump down. Nevertheless, I still recommend the external corridor on the fourteenth floor of Building 1 in 3 to 11, which overlooks the streets of the Itabashi area across from the Toei Line. Below, it goes without saying that the ground is muddy, and there are few pedestrians; falling down would definitely result in death, and this building's external staircase is also not equipped with railings.

Abdominal cutting Pain ♥♥♥♥♥ Trouble ♥♥♥♥♥ Death ♥♥♥♥♥ Connection ♥♥♥♥♥ Shock ♥♥♥♥♥ Lethality ♥♥♥♥♥ This method, which is harmful with no benefits, is also quite novel, but why do people continue to use this method for suicide? It's truly unbelievable.
Cutting wrists and beheading It's better not to die. If you've really thought about death, you probably have at least experienced it once. For example, if you put a knife across your neck, you can also experience the thrill of death.
Cutting the wrist is the simplest way to experience the atmosphere of suicide on the spot. At the same time, it allows one to observe the entire process of pain and death with their own body and eyes. In the 1960s, it was referred to as "wrist-cutting syndrome," and this method of suicide, which became very popular in the United States, later spread to Europe and eventually sparked interest in Japan. Recently, after singer Akina Nakamori cut her wrist, a phenomenon known as "Nakamori syndrome" emerged, where young women in the Roppongi area began to cut their wrists, making it one of the trendiest methods of suicide.
However, I don't really want to recommend this method to those who genuinely want to commit suicide. This is because there is an opinion that the death rate from wrist cutting is only 5%, and while the method is popular, the failure rate is relatively high. That said, the insistence that "cutting the wrist is absolutely fatal" is also not correct.
If we believe the aforementioned data, one in every twenty people dies from this method. A former prosecutor also stated, "There are not many who die from excessive bleeding just from cutting their wrists." This chapter is written for those who hope to be part of the 5%.
Of course, I never intended to die at the beginning; I just wanted to experience the emotions of self-harm by cutting my wrists, which is not a big deal. As long as it doesn't cause trouble for others, there is no reason to be blamed.
Furthermore, methods of self-harm that lead to death through significant blood loss, such as cutting the wrists with a sharp object, cutting the carotid artery, stabbing the chest, or cutting the abdomen, are also included. These self-harming behaviors resulting in suicide are all due to death from bleeding, so they are introduced together in this chapter.
[Preparation] (1) Wrist - Cut it off!
Whether it's cutting the wrist or the carotid artery, a sharp knife is all that's needed. A kitchen knife, a razor, or a paper cutter will suffice as long as they are sharp. In the case of cutting the wrist, it's best to drink some alcohol first and then take a bath to accelerate blood circulation. Additionally, to prevent the bleeding from stopping, after cutting, the hand should be immersed in warm water or placed in a basin; otherwise, the blood will clot and block the wound.
However, doctors unanimously agree that cutting the artery in the wrist will lead to death. Some specialists say, "As long as more than half of the artery is cut or it is completely severed, death will occur; cutting a large portion will not cause it to become blocked again."
It is also very important to confirm the cutting position in advance. For those who want to cut their wrist, they should place the palm of the less flexible hand facing up and carefully examine the wrist.
On the inner side of the wrist joint, there is a longitudinal artery that can be felt; this is the artery to cut. There are two diagonal veins between the artery and the skin, which intersect with the artery at the wrist crease. To better see the relationship between their positions, it is advisable to press down on the armpit to make the veins bulge. If one only cuts the veins without taking further measures, blood flow of about 200 to 300 c.c. will naturally stop, and it will not lead to death. However, even this will result in a considerable amount of blood loss, and often, this sight will make one reconsider and not want to die.
Target the artery beneath the skin that is not covered by veins, and make a horizontal cut on it. This will only cut the vein. The artery is located six to seven millimeters beneath the skin (refer to Figure 1), deeper than it appears. It is necessary to penetrate the artery and make several cuts. Even with careful aiming, when actually cutting, it is easy to hit the adjacent median nerve, which is very painful.
Cutting along the artery longitudinally may avoid this, but it is difficult due to the proximity. In a suicide attempt, it can be tolerated to endure the pain and cut the nerve.
It is better to cut the same thickness artery on the opposite side of the pulse point as well. In summary, if there is no determination to sever the wrist, one will not die. Additionally, it may be worth considering the possibility of leaving a scar in case of a failed suicide.
●Figure 2 Position of the External Carotid Artery (Excerpt from "Illustrated Emergency Procedures" New Thought Publishing)
(2) Carotid Artery - Penetrate and Withdraw
The carotid artery, once cut, will result in immediate death, so there is no need to worry about what happens after a failed attempt. However, this is indeed a situation where it is completely severed. indeed a situation where it is completely severed. When cutting the carotid artery, the most easily severed is the external carotid artery located beneath the ear on the side of the hand that is usually more agile. It is advisable to refer to Figures 2 and 3 to confirm the position.
The carotid artery in the neck is divided into the internal and external carotid arteries, with the blood vessels near the shoulder being both thick and relatively deep. Below the ear, the depth reaches over three centimeters, and there is considerable muscle thickness around it, making it somewhat difficult to cut. In this case, do not make a horizontal cut; instead, it is better to penetrate deeply and then withdraw. Sometimes, if the cut does not go smoothly, several cuts may be needed (Case 11), but there are also instances where a person has died instantly when falling and shattering a bowl, with the bowl fragments severing the carotid artery.
Cutting the carotid artery is indeed very difficult, but the aforementioned cases are not without precedent.
●Figure 3 Cross-section of the Neck (Excerpt from "Tomographic Anatomy - " Nanjing Publishing)
Other Self-harm - The Heart is Closer to the Center than Generally Imagined To stab the heart, one should confirm the position by feeling the chest beforehand. The heart is closer to the center than one might think, with a depth that varies by individual but can be as deep as nine centimeters.
Tojo Hideki consulted a doctor about the location of the heart, often touching his chest to confirm its position, and even had someone draw a target for him to shoot through with a handgun. However, in practice, he still missed, resulting in a failed suicide attempt (some say it was because he was a rare left-handed dictator, and he shot with his right hand). There are also many cases of multiple consecutive stabbings without hitting the heart.
The method of abdominal cutting requires a blade at least fifteen centimeters long. If it cannot penetrate to the back, then abdominal suicide cannot be performed.
[After] (1) Wrist - let it bleed out one liter of blood
"Humans, no matter how much effort is put in, cannot be easily cut," said a 27-year-old woman who made a five-centimeter long and four to five millimeter deep cut on her wrist with a thin knife. Indeed, flesh and blood vessels are harder to cut than one might think, and there are tendons next to the radial artery, making it even more difficult to cut. Having made up my mind to cut my wrist, the wound opened wide, revealing blood vessels and white flesh, followed by a surge of hot blood. Even if only the vein is cut, the towel applied will immediately be stained blood red.
If the artery is cut as well, blood will spray out with a force six times that of the vein, reaching two to three meters high. However, as the blood flows out, the blood pressure gradually decreases, and the bleeding will lessen. For the pain, the experience of a twenty-two-year-old female college student who only cut her vein is worth considering. While As for the pain, the experience of a twenty-two-year-old female college student who only cut her vein is worth considering. While
"watching the blood flow, I thought, am I going to die like this? Or should I continue living? I'm perhaps you won't believe this is true; it doesn't hurt at all. In the past, when I was in the second year of high school, I cut my wrist, and I didn't feel pain then either. I originally thought this could lead to death.
It is natural to feel considerable pain if the nerve is cut; if it is just the vein, it is merely the pain of a typical cut.
However, the problem after cutting is that if the artery is successfully severed, one-third of the blood in the body will flow out, and a person will die. In the human body, there are about 80 milliliters of blood per kilogram of body weight for males and about 60 milliliters for females. Therefore, if you are a woman weighing fifty kilograms, you have three liters of blood in your body, and if one-third of that (one liter) flows out, you will die.
This is only two and a half times the 400 c.c. taken during a blood donation. Children and the elderly can die from even less blood loss. It is indeed difficult to die by cutting the wrist, but if you cut thoroughly and bleed properly, it is still quite simple.
(2) Carotid Artery - Blood Sprays for Twelve Seconds
What happens if either carotid artery is completely severed? Blood will burst forth, splattering onto the ceiling or walls, and within about five seconds, one will become disoriented, brain function will cease, and one will die after losing most of the blood (some studies suggest this happens in twelve seconds). Some people believe that when one side of the carotid artery is cut, the other side still supplies blood to the brain, allowing for about three minutes of consciousness.
However, the claim of immediate death is more reliable. It is well known that marathon runner Yuki Araki committed suicide by cutting his carotid artery. He lay in bed and used a double-edged safety razor to sever his carotid artery.
There is also a method of cutting the carotid artery located shallower than the artery, similar to the hand, which can result in a large amount of blood loss. As the arterial flow draws in air, the air entering the blood vessels can obstruct the lungs, leading to death. Similarly, if air enters the trachea, it can cause suffocation. However, even if the carotid artery is cut, there are not a few cases where breathing does not stop due to bleeding cessation, similar to the veins in the hand.
Other self-harm - the cowardly abdominal cut does not lead to immediate death.
When cutting the abdomen, many small blood vessels that are not fatal are first severed, and then the knife injures the small intestine, causing fecal matter to spill out and lead to peritonitis and death. Of course, one does not die immediately; it is said that one can take three to four days before breathing their last. The death of professional wrestler Riki Choshu was also due to peritonitis following a stab wound.
When the knife penetrates the abdomen, it can cause peritoneal shock, and generally, the pain is so severe that one cannot continue. However, if a deep stab reaches the back, it can sever the large artery in front of the spine, resulting in massive blood loss and immediate death. There are indeed many who have died this way, regardless of gender or age. At this point, the knife should not remain inserted but should be pulled out immediately. Otherwise, the knife can act as a blockage in the blood vessels.
In cases of penetrating the heart, if the stab is accurate, death can occur instantly, but the tissue structure of the heart is quite resilient. A housewife who committed suicide with a thick-bladed kitchen knife had three holes in her heart, indicating that she did not die immediately. A carpenter who attempted to nail his heart with three five-inch nails avoided massive blood loss because the nails blocked the wound, but he died from bleeding during surgery after being taken to the hospital.
[ Condition of the corpse ] "Sea of Blood" is just an adjective
In cases of cutting the carotid artery, some books describe it as "a sea of blood all around," but in reality, it is just a few liters of blood flowing onto the floor, sometimes splattering onto the ceiling or walls. At most, it is a pool of blood, but the floor being completely covered in blood does not happen, and the room of a Tsuburaya athlete does not turn into a sea of blood. In cases of abdominal cutting, if the abdomen is sliced horizontally with a knife, a bucket's worth of intestines will spill out, which looks extremely gruesome.
[ Note ] Cutting the wrist veins won't lead to death
If one really wants to cut the wrist veins and slowly die in a pleasant manner, it is best to drink some alcohol and take a bath to ensure smooth blood circulation. Place the hand below the heart in the bathtub, being careful not to let the blood coagulate, and wait for death to come. If one becomes slightly unconscious, there is a possibility of drowning, and if consciousness returns, it is not a peaceful death but rather
Also, when cutting the neck, it is best to take a side-lying position to keep the heart above.
When blood flows out slowly, during this time, other internal organs that are not directly related to sustaining life will replenish some blood, meaning that one can lose nearly seventy percent of their blood and still not die. This means that dying from cutting the wrist veins is impossible.
In the rare event that death occurs from cutting the wrist veins, it is mostly due to air entering the veins and blocking the blood vessels in the brain or lungs, resulting in death from an air embolism. However, such cases are extremely rare.
The cost of the suicide scam
When I originally thought about the consequences of my failed attempt and considered cutting my wrist, I was worried about the scars. If I only cut the vein, even though it was deep, it would only leave a white mark that looked similar to the wrinkles on my wrist. However, if I cut the artery, I would also cut through the tendons in the next layer and the median nerve in the center of the wrist at the same level. Although the tendons and nerves can be repaired through surgery (case 12), this situation would leave vertical cut marks, and the scars after surgery would be quite noticeable. Plastic surgery could help, but the medical costs would range from tens of thousands to over a hundred thousand yen.
The cost of suturing the severed wrist vein, with about 30% covered by medical insurance, is approximately 30,000 yen. As a price for a life-threatening game, it is still considered reasonable.
[ Case Study 11 ]
The thoughts of a female high school student who cut her hand arteries and nerves In 1985, a sixteen-year-old female high school student cut her wrist with a small knife. The wound severed an artery, resulting in the loss of one liter of blood, but it ended in an unsuccessful attempt. Regarding the situation at that time, she said: "It really hurt to cut myself.
A lot of blood flowed, but I was still conscious, so I cut myself several more times. It was so painful! When I cut into a major blood vessel, blood gushed out, and there was a 'hissing' sound. I thought I would like this, but it still didn't work, so I cut again.
It felt like I had cut a nerve, and I felt a tingling sensation. When I was taken to the hospital for treatment, I was hoping they would give me an injection of anesthetic because I was already fed up with the pain." She had been cheerful and talkative in front of everyone since the second year of middle age. When deciding on suicide, the situation is as follows: "After finishing dinner, I was thinking about my homework and suddenly thought, 'If I don't do it, it won't work; if I don't do it, it won't work.' In this process, I suddenly thought, 'If I die, then there won't be such a thing, right?' In this situation, my feelings gradually changed to 'I must not die, I must not die.'" At the same time, she said, "The thought of taking action is instantaneous," and continued, "I have thought about it a long time ago. If I really die, the pain will be gone. Although I also think I should live, if I die, I won't have to do those things I don't want to do, and I won't have to think about those painful things anymore." When I realized I couldn't die, I thought, "Is there someone who discovered me earlier?" As a result, she stayed in the psychiatric ward for four months, and after undergoing physical and mental rehabilitation, she was finally discharged.
[ Case Study ]
It seems she cut her radial artery and central nervous system; cutting to such an extent is extremely painful. Her thought that "if I die, the pain will be gone" shows great insight.

[ Case Study 12 ]
A rare case of attempted suicide by cutting the inner side of the elbow: Akina Nakamori On July 11, 1989, around 4:30 P.M, popular singer Masahiko Kondo returned to his apartment and found his lover, also a popular singer, Akina Nakamori (then 24 years old), who had cut the inner side of her left elbow joint with a razor used for shaving armpits, lying in a pool of blood. About five large cups of blood flowed from her bathroom, and she appeared to have cut her wrist shortly before being discovered. She was immediately taken to Chiba University Medical Hospital, where the wound was eight centimeters long and two centimeters deep. Due to cutting the vein and median nerve, the suturing surgery lasted for six hours.
The surgery was performed under general anesthesia, and her blood pressure dropped to around sixty, requiring a transfusion of 600 c.c. of blood. After the surgery, to prevent the vein and nerve from tearing again, her arm was bandaged with a cast for a period of time. ^{*} even rehabilitation at a hot spring in Izu, and she has now fully recovered. The initial concerns about her fingers not being The motive for the attempted suicide is believed to be emotional friction between her and Konc
[ Inspection of this case ]
This is a case of attempted suicide by cutting the blood vessels on the inner side of the elbow, which can easily be regarded as a bored fake suicide attempt. However, the eight-centimeter length is from one end of the inner elbow to the other, and the depth of two centimeters is quite a serious injury. This wound must have opened quite wide, and if she had cut the artery, it would have definitely been life-threatening.
The median nerve, which controls the movement and sensation of the hand, is located about one centimeter beneath the skin (refer to Figure 4), and there is also a thicker artery located one centimeter beneath the skin nearby, making it an ideal spot for suicide. It is truly a miracle that she did not cut this artery; some doctors said, "Shouldn't it have been a vertical cut?"
However, it is generally believed that when it is said to be two centimeters deep, it only means that the opening part is two centimeters, and in reality, it does not reach a depth of two centimeters. Two centimeters is the depth that can reach the bone.
The body of Mitsukatsu Shimada, the Executive Officer of Iwai Shokai (then fifty-six years old), who became famous due to the difficult-to-judge case of Douglas Gorman, was discovered one morning in February 1979 beneath the Iwai Shokai building, where he served as president. The so-called Douglas Gorman difficult-to-judge case was a topic of discussion at the time, along with the Lockheed incident, which involved both the political and business circles.
Executive Officer Shimada's body had knife wounds on the right neck and left wrist, and several puncture marks on the chest from a sharp object. The cause of death was due to bleeding and traumatic brain dysfunction, which was caused by jumping from the seventh-floor president's office. He was wearing a shirt and knee-length trousers, covered by a suit jacket, and only the right sock was worn.
He told the employees who stayed late around 10:30 P.M the night before, "You can go now." After that, he tidied up the room, took off his clothes, cut his neck and wrists with a knife, and stabbed his chest several times with an awl. However, none of these resulted in fatal injuries. After several hours of suffering, he finally mustered the strength to climb up to the 70-centimeter high windowsill and jumped out of the seventh-floor window. His left sock was left on the windowsill, probably having slipped off due to blood when he crawled over the ledge.
There were also bloodstains in the restroom, which was five meters away from the president's office. This was due to the loss of control caused by shock from excessive bleeding, which is why he went to the restroom.
The struggle between Shimada and death was extremely tragic; he fainted several times due to blood loss, and each time he regained consciousness, he would slash at his body again, repeating this process many times, which seemed to take a long time.
The carpet in the room was naturally stained red with blood, and a recently opened bottle of Yamazaki whiskey and a tea bowl were scattered about. The table was tidily arranged, seemingly reflecting his personality in life, and left behind were nine suicide notes. Neatly placed in the middle of the sofa were pants, a coat, a scarf, and a shirt, indicating that he had made meticulous preparations for his suicide.
He was considered an important witness to the incident at the time, being the right-hand man of the former vice president of Kaibu Hachibu, who was later arrested. Therefore, his suicide was undoubtedly related to this incident. Two days before his suicide, Kaibu held a press The suicide note left for the employees read, "The life of the company is eternal; for its eternity,
[ Inspection of this case ]
This vividly illustrates that self-harm as a means of suicide is difficult. In fact, self-harm suicide has a particularly high rate of failure, just like poisoning. This person first cut his wrists, then his neck, and then switched to stabbing his chest with an awl. If he had chosen to jump from the building at the beginning, he would not have had to endure so much unnecessary suffering. One point that should not be overlooked is that when he was about to faint from slashing his body with a knife, he went to the restroom.
In other suicide methods, it is common to see defecation occurring due to shock while still being conscious. Since he was able to tidy up the room and arrange the suicide notes, he should have gone to the restroom first. Even though it was self-harm, he should not have blindly slashed at himself; otherwise, he wouldn't have died.
However, it is indeed strange that he went to the restroom during the suicide process to avoid others seeing the signs of incontinence.

Crash Car
Dragging an extremely exhausted body away from the company or school, just thinking about
you really want to end everything here like a wheel under a ghost... There must be quite a few people who have such thoughts in their minds. Clearly knowing that a miserable corpse will be exposed in front of people, yet those who die by crashing into trains keep appearing, perhaps because this method is the most suitable for impulsive suicidal desires.
When it comes to train suicides, the simplest is railway suicides, followed by crashing into cars on the road. However, according to statistics from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department in 1991, there were 179 suicides at train stations, 787 on the railway tracks, and only 4 on the road. In other words, aside from jumping into the sea or a lake, more than 99% do not crash into regular vehicles but into trains and fire trucks. Among them, most occur on the railway tracks rather than at train stations.
Railway track suicides are more common than general vehicle crashes, possibly because this method has a high "fatality rate," just like hanging or jumping from a building, which are undoubtedly fatal means. If you want to die by crashing, then without hesitation, go crash into a train!
According to statistics from the former National Rail Capital Circle Headquarters, the months with the most railway track suicides are July and August, with the time being from 6 P.M to 7 P.M, which is somewhat different from the statistics of other suicide methods. Males account for 77% of the cases. Another interesting point is that more suicides occur on cloudy days.
[ Prepared ] Waiting at the station for the express train to pass
When jumping off the platform at the station, you should choose the express or direct express train that does not stop at the station. The fatality rate of a train that is slowing down will also decrease; if it is a stopping train, you should choose the train that enters the station at the farthest end of the platform.
Suddenly jumping down unexpectedly will affect the people around you. Although it's not bad, if the timing is slightly off, you may collide with the front of the train and be bounced back, leaving behind a life. If the jumping force is too great, you might even fall to the other side of the track.
There is no need to panic. When the train entering the station is more than 100 meters in front of you, even if it suddenly brakes, it will not be able to stop in time. The train is both braking and approaching, so the emergency brake will not be effective.
When slowly jumping onto the tracks and lying there, no one will come to stop you. A forty-two-year-old company employee jumped from the platform onto the tracks and lay there waiting for the train to arrive, ultimately being run over by the train, resulting in a crushed head and right leg, and he died on the spot.
At that moment, a Yamanote Line train entered Tokyo Station at a speed of fifty-seven kilometers per hour. It made an emergency stop because a man jumped onto the tracks thirty meters ahead, but due to inertia, it still traveled over a hundred meters forward, crushing the man completely, with his brain matter splattering out, and he died on the spot.
At tnis time, it should be remembered that the train's whistle will sound particularly loud, almos
Choosing to act at night
When lying on the tracks a distance away from the station, try to choose a curve where the driver is less likely to see you. Riding the train in advance and observing places where the driver is not very attentive from the front of the train is also a method. Once you find a suitable spot, you can lie on the tracks and wait for the train to arrive with peace of mind. However, when the train approaches, you will hear a rumbling sound, and it is said that in a normal mental state, it is impossible to remain there, so it is best to consume some alcohol, sleeping pills, or sedatives. However, there are also examples of high school third-year female students who jumped onto the tracks from the Shizuoka Station platform and stood still, being run over by the "Hikari" train traveling at two hundred kilometers per hour, which is truly a courageous example that deserves admiration.
It is generally more difficult for electric trains to stop. A train traveling at a speed of ninety kilometers per hour, when it detects a figure two hundred meters ahead and applies emergency brakes, will still travel two hundred meters after hitting that person before coming to a stop. According to data, the distance from when the train applies the brakes to when it stops is proportional to its speed.
From a timing perspective, nighttime should definitely be chosen. Both the surrounding people and the driver are less likely to notice.
When it is difficult to enter the railway area, one can either quickly run in from a level crossing or iump down from a pedestrian bridge.
There are also many cases of jumping in from a level crossing; there are actually many ways to enter the railway area. (See Case Example 16) [Passed]
Instant death
If one lies across the tracks from the beginning, any part of the head, abdomen, chest, or limbs that is on the tracks will be crushed. If the chest and head are crushed, death will occur instantly. If clothing gets caught by the train, the person will be dragged for more than ten meters, and their body will roll multiple times, with various parts being crushed, scattering the remains over hundreds of meters. This situation often occurs when jumping off the platform or rushing in from a level crossing.
The kinetic energy of the train is immense; sometimes shoes or bags will hit people on the platform, indicating that the person is already dead.
A man jumped to collide with a train traveling at eighty-five kilometers per hour, resulting in his hands, legs, and torso being crushed and scattered over a hundred meters, with his head completely missing.
The situation of being crushed by a Shinkansen train is even worse, as if one has been blended in a mixer. Near the Sagami Plain, a man suddenly squatted on the tracks with his back to a "Hikari" train traveling at two hundred kilometers per hour, just three hundred meters ahead. All that could be seen was a cloud of dust and splattered blood, with a largely intact liver, some scalp and hair, about thirty centimeters of connected pelvic spine, a bit of skin from the neck and jaw, a right wrist, and three teeth scattered within four to five hundred meters. Other parts were reduced to meat and bone fragments scattered far away. The train continued to move forward for three to four kilometers after applying the brakes before finally stopping.
Like rain, a sudden red mist fell.
The young girl who was standing on the tracks and was hit by the "Hikari" train had her upper body thrown against the platform wall thirty meters away before bouncing back onto the platform, with her clothes and sunglasses flying over, creating a scene of blood mist around. The sales area on the descending platform reported hearing a dull, thunderous sound, and suddenly everything was red. So, what force caused the body parts or items to be ejected?
When colliding with the front of a regular train, if it occurs while driving, one can be thrown five to six meters away. At this moment, there are many cases of death.
If one is thrown out and still lands on the tracks, the body may be crushed. If one falls outside the tracks, unfortunately, there is still a possibility of surviving.
[ Condition of the Body ]
Blood and flesh scattered This is the most tragic method among all suicide means, and one should be psychologically prepared for it. However, if the collision does not occur at a station or a level crossing, the body will not be seen by ordinary passengers or onlookers. Sometimes, the body that has been thrown out may not appear to have any external injuries. In such cases, the internal damage is severe. The station staff can handle the body and clean the surrounding area in about ten minutes, but after thirty minutes, they still cannot find the severed hand or neck. The face of a certain suicide victim was pressed against a freight train and was only discovered after traveling 900 kilometers from Fukushima Prefecture to Hokkaido. There are also cases where a woman's arm, which was hit in Yamaguchi Prefecture, was found in Yokohama after a distance of 900 kilometers.
Although the body has been removed and the train has resumed operation, the scattered debris remains everywhere, with bloodstains still visible on the sleepers and the track, leaving a tragic mark.
Outside the station area, if one lies on the tracks and is run over, it is less likely to leave behind In short, for those who want to die completely, this is definitely not a suitable method.
[ Note ]
The tracks and the body should form a right angle.
Sometimes, due to bad luck, hands and feet may be crushed but not fatal, and there are cases where one lives the latter half of their life with prosthetics (Case 15), so it is essential to find a way to position the neck or chest on the tracks. Sometimes the body may get caught between the tracks, miraculously only suffering minor abrasions (Case 14). Therefore, making the body intersect the tracks at a right angle is a fundamental principle of lying on the tracks for suicide.
Be prepared to pay a huge compensation fee.
Railway suicides incur enormous compensation costs. According to statistics from the old national railway in 1985, an emergency brake of a train can cause electrical losses of 600,000 to 800,000 yen and about 10,000 yen in wheel wear costs. For a train stop, particularly on the busy Tokyo Yamanote Line, losses can reach hundreds of thousands of yen every 15 to 30 minutes, and during peak hours, losses can amount to 1,000,000 to 2,000,000 yen. The losses for the Shinkansen are even greater; a one-hour delay can cost tens of millions of yen. Additionally, there are costs for accommodating the deceased.
There are also cases where a collision with a limited express train resulted in a compensation claim of 30 million yen, and another case where a collision on the Tokaido Line led to a claim of 140 million yen. Those in the know say that compensation is not claimed due to public opinion considerations. However, the Japan Railway Company is not easy to deal with either.
Although criminal charges may not be filed, lawsuits still proceed. However, there are often cases where the contact information for the deceased's family is unclear, making compensation claims uncertain.
From this perspective, lying on the tracks for suicide does not seem to be a cost-effective method. However, as mentioned at the beginning, when you suddenly think of suicide, this method is what comes to mind. Let the future take care of itself; if you want to die right now, for those mentioned above, this is certainly the best means.
[ Case Study 14 ] A.O.L Miraculously Survives Train Collision
On the afternoon of December 29, 1991, around 5 P.M, a 24-year-old woman jumped from a bridge 500 meters in front of Nishi-Funabashi Station onto a train running on the Musashino Line in an attempt to commit suicide. She was a single office lady (O.L) working at a computer company in Chiba City and was on her way home from work. The bridge was 7 meters high, and if she fell at the right angle, she could have died even without a train passing by. She jumped onto the tracks when the train was about 10 meters away, and the driver felt, "This is going to crush her!"
After the train made an emergency stop, she found herself under the sixth car, but her body was miraculously wedged between the two rails, and she was unharmed. A doctor diagnosed her with bruises on her head and waist that required a week of treatment.
She survived because of her smaller physique, which prevented her back from being caught by the train, and due to the train slowing down before entering the station. Otherwise, her body would have been pulled in and crushed.
Although she did not disclose her motive for suicide, her friends mentioned that it was related to an abnormal relationship with a man.
[ Inspection of this case ]
Jumping from a building and colliding with a train are two methods that can be fatal, yet she survived, making this a rare case. Falling from a height of 7 meters would typically result in serious injuries, and with a train passing over her, it is indeed a miracle that she only sustained minor bruises. It is also miraculous that she did not intentionally wedge her body between the tracks but ended up falling there by chance. Isn't there also a case of a female suicide victim referred to as a "meat bullet"? She jumped from a bridge towards the train, resulting in the front car being smashed and her falling into the driver's cabin, leading to her death.
There is a thought-provoking question: why did she choose the day and time to commit suicide? December 29, 1991, was a Sunday. Work should have been finished the day before or two days prior, so why did she stay at the company until after five in the evening? What was she doing?
Regardless, she was determined to commit suicide. However, due to this unexpected situation, it is difficult to say that doing so would definitely lead to a successful suicide.
[ Case Study 15 ]
A woman who survived a suicide attempt by train after being crushed by a single hand and two feet T attempted to commit suicide by colliding with a train in February 1955 but failed; at that time, she was a sixteen-year-old sophomore in high school. After ten o'clock at night, she rushed towards a rapid train that had just departed from the Shinjuku station on the Odakyu Line, "jumping down from the front of the platform as if drawn by the railway."
After the train braked rapidly, it stopped. T's right ankle, the lower part of her left leg below the knee, the area below fifteen centimeters of her left shoulder, and the ring and little fingers of her right hand were all broken. The only fingers left were her left thumb, index finger, and middle finger. At that time, T desperately shouted, "It's hot, it's hot!" and soon lost consciousness. She was taken to the hospital by ambulance, remained in a coma for a week, and regained consciousness on the tenth day after the accident, realizing her situation.
T had once despaired and thought, "I can only die again," but later believed in the words of a Christian pastor and the Bible, deciding to live on. She was discharged in August, and both of her legs were fitted with prosthetics. The following year, she married the pastor, had two children, and is now engaged in speaking activities promoting the value of life.
[ Inspection of this case ]
Rushing towards a train that had just started moving from the front of the platform was her miscalculation, but the areas that could cause fatal injuries, such as the neck and torso, were not crushed, which was probably just a coincidence. However, from this case, it can also be understood that the faster the train's speed, the better; yet, even a train that has just departed still has the power to break limbs, which serves as a rare example telling people, "This is what happens when a railway suicide fails."
[ Case Study 16 ] A woman crushed to death in the Seikan Tunnel
In March 1991, the body of a twenty-six-year-old woman was found near the Yoshioka underwater station in the Seikan Tunnel. Both her hands and legs were completely severed above the forehead. However, the Yoshioka underwater station is a disaster prevention station located on the tunnel side of the two unmanned stations in the Seikan Tunnel, where trains do not stop, and it is not a place that ordinary people can enter freely. How did she end up dead in such a place?
The investigation results indicate that this woman has been missing since the day before yesterday, and on the 18th, she decided to return to her home in Tokyo.
The incident occurred while she was on her way home from Sapporo. She had been feeling somewhat neurotic for a while and, at some point, made the decision to end her life. She boarded the express train that departed at 22:00 on the same day, and around 3:05 the next day, as the train slowed down while passing through the Yoshioka underwater station, she climbed into the driver's cabin, opened the window, and jumped out, landing on the other side of the tracks, where she was killed by a freight train passing around 4:00. On the 18th, she called home and told her father, "I'm about to come home."
[Examination of Cause of Death]
Lying on the tracks waiting to die is particularly difficult, especially in urban areas. However, her invented method of "tunnel suicide" can be applied in metropolitan areas. Searching for the dead corners of the city is also a form of preparation for railway suicide, and it seems that there are many unknown good spots in the subway.
To enter the railway line, the main condition is that the surroundings must be dark. In urban areas, one should also avoid being seen when entering a level crossing; the chances are higher at night, making it difficult for drivers to notice. In fact, this woman's body was discovered around 5:40, about an hour and a half later, which means the driver was completely unaware.
One important point is the complete severance above the forehead. One can imagine the immense cutting force of a train wheel. It is speculated that she was lying across the tracks, which is inferred from the condition of the body.
If she had been hit by the train, the chances of being crushed are higher; lying across the tracks would result in being cut in half instantly. This provides significant insight for those who attempt to lie on the tracks to commit suicide outside of the station.
In Kyotoaro Nishimura's detective novel, there is also a scenario where a female corpse is discovered at the Yoshioka Undersea Station; perhaps she has read this novel as well.
That said, it is hard to imagine someone lying on the tracks for about ten minutes in the cold, dark depths of 150 meters underground, in a chilling and terrifying experience that exceeds ordinary fear. The psychology before suicide is truly elusive.

The inside of the crater is a kind of secret realm, and unlike the Aokigahara forest, where large-scale searches for bodies are conducted, it still has its utility value, hence its introduction.
[History]
Located in the Izu Islands, Mount Mihara has become a suicide hotspot. Not many people know the reason behind this, which dates back to a mysterious case from sixty years ago.
On February 24, 1933, two students from the Shijutsu Women's High School in the 211th district ascended Mount Mihara. One of them said, "Say goodbye to everyone," and jumped into the volcano, while the other was saved during a moment of hesitation. The two had originally planned to commit suicide together, which was shocking enough to the surrounding community. Investigations revealed that this female student had also climbed Mount Mihara a month earlier on January 9 with another friend, who ended up committing suicide alone while she returned.
The "Death Guide" incident caused a stir in society. For unknown reasons, young men and women began flocking to Mount Mihara as suicide volunteers, resulting in an astonishing number of thirty-two suicides and seventeen attempts within three months. The truth is that the female witness had been commissioned to accompany someone for suicide a month prior. A month later, someone casually confided in her about their suicidal thoughts, and she mentioned Mount Mihara. Little did she know that this person repeatedly pressured her to "be a guide," and she reluctantly took her friend to the volcano's crater.
As a result, that year, there were 804 male and 140 female suicides at Mount Mihara, totaling nearly a thousand. Some even jumped together after feeling a connection upon meeting at the summit, while others said to tourists, "See you again," before jumping down. Thus, Mount Mihara suddenly became a suicide hotspot.
[Jumping Method]
From the resting area or souvenir shop around the crater, walk towards the inner rim of the mountain. Around the crater, only the summit of the inner rim is off-limits, and it is impossible to glimpse inside the crater. If you want to jump, it would only be a moment's act of climbing over the fence (see Figure 1).
●Figure 1 Mount San'yo Crater
When jumping into the crater, there are many cases where one hangs on the rock ledge halfway down or falls to the bottom of the volcano but does not reach the magma area (case example 17). However, one may also faint from inhaling sulfuric acid, and combined with injuries from rolling down, death can occur within a few hours. Although it is not about Mount San'yo, in 1948, following the example of Osamu Dazai, a young person left a suicide note saying "Take me with you" and jumped into Mount Aso, hanging on a rock 150 meters high, and was eventually pulled back up. In fact, according to survey data, the temperature of the rocks 240 meters down from the Aso crater is 100 degrees, and the air is 65.6 degrees. When jumping down, be careful not to let the people on the observation deck at the summit notice.
[Transportation and Accommodation]
There are boats from Tokyo, Yokohama, Atami, and Ito to Oshima, and there are also direct flights from Haneda and Chofu. If you reach the summit of Mount San'yo, you can use buses or taxis. Accommodation is available at the Oshima Onsen Ryokan at the eighth section of Mount San'yo, and there are various hotels in Motomachi and Okada at the port, as well as farm guesthouses. Staying for a few days before committing suicide is also not a bad idea.
[ Case Study 17 ]
A man who climbed up from the crater wall of Mount Sanjiyama On the afternoon of December 3, 1956, a young man (29 years old) and a woman (26 years old) jumped together from a volcano about sixty meters deep. Mount Sanjiyama had experienced a large-scale eruption earlier that January, and when these two jumped, new craters caused by the ejected lava were still visible.
Upon receiving the news, rescuers braved the unbearable heat and sulfur dioxide emissions to conduct the rescue. The woman's leg was trapped in a spot where lava was erupting, rendering her immobile and beyond rescue. The man was slightly farther from the flames, covered in blood and groaning.
Since he was still conscious, the rescuers carried the injured man, attempting to move him to a safer location on a rock protruding more than ten meters away. By this time, it was already late at night, so they returned to the crater's edge, and it was 3:15 A.M.
However, when they returned to rescue him the next morning, the man had already managed to climb up to the crater's edge using his own strength and collapsed there. Unable to use his legs, he tore his scarf to bandage his head and hands, using his hands to dig two holes in the volcanic wall, placing his knees in the holes to climb up, then digging two more to continue the process, repeatedly performing this action until he completely climbed the remaining slope of about seventy degrees of the crater wall, around 4 A.M.
Fifteen hours of struggle for survival since the jump.
His face had turned black due to dried blood, and his left eye was swollen, but he only sustained minor injuries. The scarf that had been beside him had turned yellow and was in tatters. The deceased woman was pulled up around 11 A.M. Her left leg and below the left knee were burned away, her leg swollen with gas, while her face and hands showed no changes. The motive for suicide, it is said, is to clear up the love triangle that has persisted for years.
[ Inspection of this case ]
The will to live is astonishing. When he was left on the rocks by the rescue team, he said, "I thought about jumping again, but at that moment, the child's face appeared in my mind, and the will to live surged up." He said this afterward, and such a person should never have attempted suicide in the first place.
Jumping off a cliff with a slope of seventy degrees and a depth of sixty meters only resulted in minor injuries, which was an accident. However, those who dive directly into a volcano's crater and jump into the lava are extremely rare; most hit the rocks halfway down and then fall into the bottom of the crater, dying from the heat and gas.
People have talked enough about the horrors of volcanic craters. He described the scene while climbing the volcanic wall: "Due to the intense heat and the sulfurous smoke that sprayed up, my face felt hot, and I couldn't catch my breath."
The woman made contact with the lava perfectly, achieving her goal, but the body was a sight too gruesome to behold. This story illustrates that when jumping into a volcano to commit suicide, the position of the fall and the will to die are extremely important.
Gas-Poisoning
Gas poisoning Car interior gas poisoning Pain ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ Trouble ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ Death ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ Connection ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ Impact ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ Lethality ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ Connect a pipe from the car exhaust to the inside of the car window, and seal the gaps. This is quite time-consuming and laborious, but it can lead to a peaceful death, and the death scene is not too unpleasant.
Gas poisoning
To avoid any mistakes, I want to clarify that relying on city gas is not likely to lead to a quick death. Turning on the gas switch in a room and then collapsing, gradually losing consciousness... this is already outdated. Nowadays, city gas has been converted by gas companies to natural gas, which does not contain carbon monoxide that causes poisoning, so poisoning deaths are unlikely to occur in most areas.
Liquefied gas also does not contain carbon monoxide. Even if one dies, it would be due to suffocation from lack of oxygen. The suffering from poisoning and suffocation is completely different. Generally speaking, dying from poisoning is a relatively comfortable way to die. The happy 1970s, when one could easily commit suicide by poisoning in a room, is long gone.
However, car exhaust containing carbon monoxide still has lethal power. In fact, most of the current "gas suicide" cases have been replaced by this exhaust gas.
If you want to use gas or propane, you must be prepared to endure pain worse than death, by sucking on the gas pipe and filling a small room with gas, ultimately dying from lack of oxygen. If you're lucky, you might achieve suffocation death like the seventeen-year-old girl did at the moment the pipe opened. That said, some households are equipped with safety devices that automatically stop gas emissions after a few hours of high output, and there is also the risk of explosion, so it is best not to consider committing suicide with gas at home.
If you want to die from lack of oxygen, there is no need to fill a room with gas; just put a plastic bag over your head. Although it seems a bit primitive, more than a hundred people each year use this method to commit suicide. In addition to the plastic bag, combining it with other methods such as medication for suicide can be even more effective (Case 19). Similarly, although it does not result in death by poisoning, there are cases of people who have been killed by igniting gas filled indoors.
This method is simple and suitable for impulsive suicides. However, while being blown up certainly results in immediate death, there are also many instances where individuals suffer severe burns and endure pain for several days before dying. The harm caused to the surroundings is significant, and there is no guarantee that it will go smoothly; sometimes it merely leads to a fire, so it is not worth recommending.
To commit suicide in a car, you first need to prepare a rubber tube and adhesive tape that are three to four meters long. The rubber tube should be purchased from a grocery store according to the size of the exhaust outlet. If the size does not match, you can wrap it with adhesive tape several layers thick to prevent leaks and ensure it does not fall off.
Then, connect the rubber tube to the exhaust outlet and secure it tightly with adhesive tape. Next, insert the rubber tube through the car window, sealing the gap with adhesive tape as well. This way, the inside of the car becomes sealed. Sit inside, close the door, start the engine, recline the seat, and listen to the music playing from the car's sound system as you slowly drift towards eternal sleep.
Make sure to fill up the gasoline. If the neighbors are not paying attention, it's fine to park the car in your own garage, but it's better to do so in a forest where people can't see it. An off-season vacation spot that is rarely visited is also a great place. Alternatively, cover the car with a car cover, so even when listening to music, the indicator lights won't be noticed. absorbs oxygen (O₂), supplies oxygen to tissues, then takes carbon dioxide (C-O₂) from the tissues and transports it to the lungs. However, once it combines with carbon monoxide (C-O), it loses the aforementioned function (excerpt from "Introduction to Forensic Science" by Nobuyuki Yashima, Chuokoron-Shinsha)
Check for the presence of carbon monoxide When committing suicide in a room, the first step is to confirm whether the gas used contains carbon monoxide, and also to check for any safety devices. The remaining task is to ensure that whether it is death from carbon monoxide poisoning or from lack of oxygen, the window seams must be tightly sealed, and additional tape should be applied to the seams of the windows and doors. Once everything is prepared, turn on the switch and go to sleep.
Propane gas must be laid horizontally on the floor because its density is greater than that of air. In contrast, coal gas is lighter than air, so it is better to keep it as high as possible.
Of course, having the courage to put a rubber tube in one's mouth is the best option. Surprisingly, many people use this method of suicide; the writer Yasunari Kawabata also took his own life this way, and there are cases of people dying by putting their heads in a gas stove.
The method of covering the head with a plastic bag, if it does not leak, is foolproof, and tying a rope around the neck is also a good option.
[After] Very little pain
As the concentration of carbon monoxide in the air increases, along with the duration of inhalation, dizziness and heart palpitations intensify, leading to loss of consciousness and eventually death. This is because hemoglobin, which transports oxygen in the blood, binds with carbon monoxide at two to three hundred times the strength of oxygen, forming "carboxyhemoglobin" in the blood, which drastically reduces the oxygen supply to the body's cells.
The way of the automobile: The concentration of carbon monoxide in the exhaust is approximately 0.5% to 0.4%. When the concentration of carbon monoxide in the blood reaches 30%, one first feels dizziness, headache, weakness, fatigue, and a decrease in judgment. When it reaches 40%, there is nausea, a lack of energy to do what one wants to do, and there is Fatigue. When it reaches fifty percent, the skin appears red due to carboxyhemoglobin, and the body temperature decreases.
When reaching sixty percent, breathing becomes rapid, and symptoms such as confusion, incontinence, and convulsions appear. When reaching seventy percent, breathing stops, and death occurs quickly (see Figure 2).
In the method of poisoning and suicide inside a car, it will take about half an hour to an hour to carbon monoxide concentration in the air and breathing time, where it can cause death in Area A, induce poisoning in Area B, and have no effect in Area C.
“The most beautiful way to die” should avoid defecation
Among all suicide bodies, people say that gas suicide bodies are the "most beautiful." Due to the carbon monoxide hemoglobin in the blood, the skin appears pink, and your body will be found in a pink-stained state. When spasms occur, the clothes may become disordered, but it doesn't matter.
However, incontinence often occurs. In the home of a man who died from carbon monoxide poisoning in the bathroom, there were feces in both the kitchen and the bed. Since the deceased's rectum was empty, it was known to be his. At that time, carbon monoxide was generated from boiling water for bathing, and after being unable to hold it in both the kitchen and the bed, he went to the bathroom and then died.
Generally speaking, even when fully conscious, incontinence can occur. For those who need to see a clean body, it is essential to use the restroom beforehand.
[Note] Beware of explosion
In the method of suicide in a car, since carbon monoxide is lighter than air, the gas sometimes escapes through the window seams. During this time, it may be discovered, or the situation may arise where the gasoline runs out, so it is advised to seal the window seams tightly. Although poisoning death is less painful, if consciousness is not lost for a longer period, headaches and nausea will persist, so it is better to take sleeping pills at the same time.
The man who introduced gas into the car, sealed the window gaps, and covered the front windshield with a blanket to prevent anyone from seeing inside, surprisingly remained awake even after taking sixty sleeping pills. He was discovered and the police were notified. Although he shouted, "I have the right to die!", he was forcibly dragged out of the car. Not all methods lead to a slow loss of consciousness.
When the room is filled with gas, special attention must be paid to the risk of explosion. Even the flickering of a fluorescent light starter can trigger an explosion. If a major explosion occurs, it can result in huge compensation costs, and often there are many cases where individuals surrounded by gas do not die (Case 18). Just like some people put up notes saying, "Close the gas valve tightly, open doors and windows to ventilate the gas, and do not use electrical switches or matches due to explosion risks" to remind others, one must be sufficiently cautious about explosions before proceeding with gas suicide.
When using carbon monoxide poisoning as a method of suicide in an apartment, one must also be mindful of those living on upper floors. In 1976, a twenty-year-old woman attempted suicide at home using gas, but she did not die, while a twenty-one-year-old woman sleeping upstairs died from carbon monoxide poisoning. This was due to the lighter weight of carbon monoxide. However, the deceased's family pursued the management responsibilities of the suicide attempt's parents, the apartment landlord, the police, and the fire department, suing for compensation of 2,037,000 yen in court. Indoor gas suicide should be recognized as the method that most easily causes trouble for others.
In the event of survival, similar to hanging, it can cause damage to brain nerve tissue due to lack of oxygen, potentially leaving serious lifelong consequences. However, the phrase often mentioned, "leaving serious consequences for life," is not limited to gas suicide. All methods of suicide, such as hanging, jumping from buildings, crashing cars, and drug use, are the same; if one wishes to commit suicide, this consequence is naturally something that should be considered.
[ Case Study 18 ] A man sentenced for attempted gas suicide
In April 1978, a 47-year-old unemployed man living in a town-managed housing in Fukuoka Prefecture attempted to commit suicide using gas. Around 10 a.m., he fell into a state of hallucination due to stimulant poisoning. Troubled by his mistress leaving him, he thought of suicide and pulled a rubber hose from a propane tank outside into the bathroom, filling the room with gas.
However, after a long time without dying, two hours later, when he tried to smoke and lit a lighter, the gas exploded. The explosion caused a total loss of 1.24 million yen for 28 households living in the town-managed housing, injuring nine residents, while he himself was hospitalized for a month to treat burns. He was charged with "gas leakage crime," and in February of the following year, the Fukuoka District Court, Iizuka Branch, sentenced him to eight months in prison for "causing serious consequences by injuring many people."
[ Inspection of this case ]
This is an example of choosing to commit suicide by gas explosion, but if unsuccessful and causing damage to the surroundings, one can also be sentenced. This is because leaking gas indoors is equivalent to "gas leakage crime." Article 118, Paragraph 1 of the Japanese Penal Code states: "Anyone who causes danger to life, body, or property by leaking or flowing gas, electricity, or steam, or by blocking it, shall be punished with imprisonment for not more than three years or a fine of not more than 100,000 yen."
A similar case occurred in 1976, where a 28-year-old company manager in an apartment in Osaka also attempted to commit suicide using gas indoors, resulting in a large explosion that destroyed one unit and affected about seventy households. He was charged with "gas leakage crime" and "serious negligence arson" (causing damage to others' residences due to fire). Even as a failed suicide attempt, he could not escape legal responsibility.
From the above case, it can also be seen that two hours of propane in the home may not have caused death, yet it resulted in an explosion that affected eighteen households, while I only suffered a month of treatment for my injuries.
When the indoor space was filled with gas and I was about to lose consciousness, I actually lit a lighter to smoke. It seems like I was being foolish, but in reality, such incidents are not uncommon.
[ Case Study 19 ] A man who committed suicide according to a suicide manual
In July 1983, the body of a strange man (then forty-six years old) was discovered, dressed in swimming trunks, submerged in cold water in a bathtub, with a black garbage bag over his head and a rope tied around his neck connected to the windowsill.
Forty empty packets of painkillers "Shuede" were found in his apartment room, indicating that he had taken the medication before committing suicide in this manner.
At the same time, a suicide manual published in Japan that year titled "Suicide - The Most Peaceful Ways to Die" (Tokuma Shoten) was found in the room, with a ribbon marking a reference page. On page 184, it introduced four combinations as methods for peaceful suicide: "1. Suffocation with painkillers and a plastic bag; 2. Poisoning from a large amount of drugs and car exhaust fumes; 3. Painkillers and hypothermia (prolonged immersion in cold water); 4. Overdose on painkillers." He chose combinations one and three for his suicide.
He was once a vendor at the former Tokyo Indoor Stadium - the later known as the Korakuen Stadium, had gone missing a year ago, and later left his wife and children, living a life of an alcoholic in a small room. The reason for his disappearance was said to be that he was burdened with debts and fled from creditors.
While suffocating oneself with a plastic bag is painful, it is quite simple. The painkiller "Shed" cannot reach a lethal dose, but the effects of the drug and the hypothermia caused by cold water are useful in reducing respiratory function.
The impact of the suicide manual cannot be overlooked. The original version of this book was published in France in 1982, and referenced by this person comes from the manual issued by the "British Euthanasia Society" with restrictions for its members, so the description is accurate. It goes without saying that this book also quotes some material from that book.
Interestingly, he deliberately inserted a ribbon to make it clear to others that "this section is ab In France, there are also people who have committed suicide by poisoning after flipping to the referenced page, and their intention to draw the world's attention through this method is clearer than ever.
[ Case Study 20 ] Failures in suicide experiments using plastic bags
In November 1974, an 18-year-old man was found in Kawasaki City, having suffocated to death with a plastic bag over his nose and mouth, secured with a rubber band.
On his desk were two sheets of 400-character manuscript paper, detailing the results of various suicide methods, titled "In Experiment." This indicates that the young man was conducting a suicide experiment by covering his mouth with a plastic bag and suffocated to death.
His notes read:" Fifteen minutes after the experiment began, breathing accelerated, and hands and feet became numb. After twenty-five minutes, the whole body was paralyzed, breathing increased threefold, and the heartbeat was 120 beats per minute. If one remains still in bed, survival is possible for thirty minutes. Brain impairment occurs after about one hour, and death occurs after about two hours. The plastic bag should be removed beforehand, and the heart should be massaged."
[Cause of Death Examination]
It seems that using a plastic bag to commit suicide follows the sequence of "suffocation -> numbness in hands and feet -> paralysis of the whole body -> accelerated heartbeat -> loss of consciousness" until death.
So, why was he unable to remove the plastic bag? The possible reasons are: in a panic when about to suffocate, he hurriedly tried to take it off, but in his anxiety, he quickly lost awareness; as he gradually lost consciousness, his body became paralyzed and unresponsive, leading to fainting.
If the second point is correct, then while we have always written that suffocation suicide is painful, it can actually be said to be quite a comfortable method. However, this feeling at the brink of death cannot be experimented with; it can only be known through the speculation of doctors. Therefore, these "death experiments" are also extremely valuable data in medicine.
The symptoms and the situation of using a plastic bag are somewhat different (excerpt from "Standard Forensic Science: Medical Jurisprudence" Medical College). =C.S.M.J -----End P.G.P Signature----- -----Begin P.G.P Signed Message----- Electrocuting Electric Shock Electric Shock Pain ▼▼▼▼Trouble ▼▼▼▼▼Death ☑☑☑☑☑ Connection ▼▽▽▽▽ Impact ☑☑☑☑☑ Lethality ☑ ☑ ☑ ☑ The downside is the trouble of a few seconds of electric shock and stripping wires; it is a milder method than generally imagined.
Electric Shock
According to statistics from the Japanese Ministry of Health in 1991, among the 5,000 suicides in 1987, fifty-six people used the least common method of electric shock suicide. Interestingly, fifty-three of them were men, accounting for ninety-five percent of the total. It can be said that this method is almost exclusively used by men. This is not due to a low overall number; even in statistics of over 100 people, more than ninety percent were men. Some say it may be because women are particularly afraid of electricity.
The death from electric shock suicide is caused by a momentary cessation of breathing, heart failure, shock, etcetera The pain is truly only momentary. A doctor once said that electric shock suicide is one of the more comfortable methods of dying. The method is very simple. Strip one end of the wire to expose the copper, plug it into a power source, and touch it to the chest or back. For those impulsively wanting to die, this is the best method. The downside is that there are many cases of failure, but there are no significant aftereffects, so it is a good method that can be reconsidered.
[Prepared] Electrifying the Heart
Secretly sneaking into the substation to touch the high-voltage part is the simplest method, but it is indeed terrifying. It is better to connect a wire in your own room, with both terminals attached to your body, and set a timer before going to sleep. A copper wire attached to the chest and another to the back will work; if you don't want to attach it to the chest, you can attach it to both A sixteen-year-old female high school student wrapped a wire around her right thumb and attached another to her vest to commit suicide. However, if you do this, it is better to wrap the wire around the left thumb, which is closer to the heart. There are also cases of nuclear scientists who used a timer to commit suicide by placing one end of the electrode in their mouth and inserting the other end into the anus, but how they managed to keep the copper wire from falling out of their mouth while sleeping remains a mystery. It is best not to imitate this method.
Using tape to secure the copper wire is sufficient; at this time, wetting the part that contacts the body reduces resistance, resulting in better effectiveness. Generally, poor electrical conductivity is also a factor that lowers accuracy, so it is advisable to press down with wet cotton or gauze. When wetting the cotton, saline solution can be used, and if you can wet it with some gel used for electrocardiograms, the resistance will be even lower. There are also examples of using a round coin as a conductor. Of course, wrapping both copper wires around the chest is the most reliable method.
No matter what, the key is to let the heart receive electricity. Using a transformer to increase the voltage will increase the lethality.
In this situation, there are not many people who can sleep soundly, so it is advisable to drink some alcohol. Setting the timer for about two hours after falling asleep is the best time. Many examples are set for three o'clock in the morning, which should be the reasoning behind it. In short, minimizing resistance and increasing voltage is the most important.
Throwing a running electric heater or electric razor into the bathtub while bathing can also conduct electricity, but the reliability is extremely low. To improve conductivity, adding some salt to the hot water will yield better results.
[After] Instant sharp pain
The biggest question here is what a person's consciousness is like at the moment the electric current passes through. Using a timer, if everything goes according to plan, a hundred volts of electricity will pass through the body a few hours after you fall asleep, immediately causing the heart to contract, leading to loss of consciousness a few seconds later, and stopping the blood circulation of the heart, resulting in death.
According to a certain doctor's observation: under normal conditions, there can be instantaneous sharp pain, and muscle relaxants are not easily accessible, so muscle spasms are inevitably experienced. For instance, excessive drinking or taking sleeping pills can lead to confusion, resulting in a peaceful death during sleep. At this time, although consciousness is lost, the whole body will be convulsing. There is another saying: the loss of consciousness is only a matter of seconds or an instant, but it takes about three minutes for the heart to stop beating.
A man who regained consciousness after being electrocuted described the "instant" experience as follows: "Suddenly, I felt controlled by a force and lost awareness."
So, will the circuit breaker trip when there is a short circuit? The electric company believes "this situation is not impossible." A certain coroner stated: "So far, it seems there has been no case of a tripped breaker." Therefore, regarding this point, it seems there is no need to worry.
Since there are death row inmates who do not die immediately after sitting in an electric chair of 2,000 volts, is the 100-volt voltage in households sufficient? Some may feel uneasy. However, higher voltage is not necessarily better.
The electrical resistance of human skin, in a dry state, ranges from 1,000 ohms to 2,000 ohms (the resistance of females is lower than that of males). Maintaining this state, the maximum current that can pass through the body is only up to 100 milliamperes. This current is the minimum required to cause ventricular fibrillation, which can stop the heart. Of course, if the skin is wet, the resistance can decrease by a factor of ten. In fact, in low-voltage situations, weak currents can more easily cause ventricular fibrillation, which is more dangerous for the heart. Additionally, the most dangerous electrical frequency for the human body is 50 to 60 hertz, which is consistent with household electricity.
Alternating current from the socket is more likely to cause ventricular fibrillation than direct current. This means that if electricity is applied to the heart within three seconds of ventricular fibrillation occurring, a household 100-volt voltage can completely electrocut a person.
The cause of death in a bathtub is either cardiac arrest or shock. When electricity is applied to the brain, it can paralyze the respiratory center, leading to respiratory failure; however, such cases are not commonly seen.
[ Condition of the corpse ] Almost no injuries
The areas touched by the electrodes will leave burn marks, but the body has almost no injuries. The electrical resistance of the skin on page Sometimes, there are no burn marks at all. It is as if the person is in a state of sleep, making it one of the very beautiful corpses.
[Note] Aim for the heart!
The target is the heart.
If you really want to die, the other parts won't work. You must find a way to pass electricity through the heart. If you want to die in your sleep using a timer, don't forget to secure the copper wire to avoid it falling off in the bedding; even if it gets tangled around you, if it falls off while you are asleep, the goal won't be achieved.
I have already died, but there is still electricity in the body. At this time, there is a danger for those who come to touch the corpse and get electrocuted, so one must be cautious, but this is something that a suicide victim cannot manage. If you don't want to trouble others, you can put up a note saying "Do not touch, danger!"
[Case 21] A man who electrocuted himself in the restroom of a racetrack
On a certain day in April 1981, at 6 P.M, after all the races had ended at Nakayama Racecourse in Funabashi City, a body of a man about fifty years old, 160 centimeters tall, with an athlete's hairstyle, was discovered two hours later. He had connected a wire to the restroom's ventilation fan, and the other end was taped to his chest, resulting in his electrocution. By the time he was found, the body had already stiffened.
The deceased was wearing a new three-piece suit, a freshly ironed blue striped shirt, a tie with blue and white dots, a grass-yellow trench coat, and black short leather boots, looking quite tidy.
Next to him were only 8,350 yen in cash, a pack of short Hope cigarettes, a hundred-yen lighter, and a racing newspaper with a suicide note, but the identity of the deceased was never clarified.
He wrote in his suicide note left on the newspaper with a red pen: "I am a bastard, I failed in life I'm sorry! Stupid people leave. I'm really sorry, I'm too tired!"
L ☐ This is an easy example of achieving electrocution suicide. He probably exposed the copper wire to his chest and then plugged the socket in while the heart was electrified, causing the heart to stop.
The phrase "failed in life for a horse" in the suicide note is a famous quote, and the next day's social section of the newspaper used this phrase as the headline to report the incident.

-----Begin P.G.P Signed Message----- Suicide Village Kumatori Between June committed suicide weekly in Kumatori, Osaka. The first to die was an unemployed youth, Mr. A (17 years old). He was discovered on June 4th (Thursday). Then, on June 10th (Wednesday), Mr. B (18 years old), who worked in construction followed. On June 17th (Wednesday), Mr. C (18 years old), a hotel staff member, took his life.
On June 25th (Thursday), Mr. D (22 years old), a public servant from a neighboring city, hanged himself. On July 2nd (Thursday), a female student from a local sports university, Ms. E, stabbed herself three times in the chest to commit suicide. It is unknown why all of them died on Wednesdays or Thursdays. The locations of the suicides were also remarkably close, concentrated within a radius of 500 meters. Additionally, the first three individuals were all troubled youths who had formed a violent gang (the Flying Squad) a year prior.
The motives for all the suicides remain completely unclear. This series of unexplained suicides sent shockwaves throughout Japan. The level of mystery surrounding this case can be compared to the "Death Guide" incident at Mihara Mountain in Japan's suicide history. In the local area, the suicide narrative holds absolute sway.
If it is indeed a narrative of suicide, it implies the existence of a murderer who kills one person each week, totaling five victims. When such bizarre suicides occur, it inevitably draws out the narrative of murder. However, it is best not to believe it too readily ●Figure 1 Kumatori Town, reachable by train from Osaka City in 30 minutes
● Figure 2 Map of Kumatori Town (There are more than 5 suicides at the location marked with ☐)
[ Place of Death ]
It is said that the population is less than 40,000, but Kumatori is not a rural town. There is a large bus terminal in front of the train station, and the commercial street is bustling with people. However, at the western end of the town, taking a taxi from the train station along National Route 170 to the east for ten minutes will reveal rural land on the right side.
Nearby, five people committed suicide. You can get off here and take a walk. There are mixed forests and small farmhouses everywhere. You can choose any location for suicide.
Beforehand, it is advisable to take a look at the locations of the continuous suicides, and it is not a bad idea to reminisce about the deceased while contemplating the thought of continuous death. The onion house and the small warehouse where A and B committed suicide have already been demolished, and the millet tree where D hanged himself has also been cut down. Only the small farmhouse where C hanged himself remains there.
Even in summer, it has a somewhat eerie atmosphere; the small house with a few beams on the roof is the most unsuitable place for suicide. The location of the suicide scene is shown in Figure 2.
[ Suicide Method ]
To commit suicide in this town, there is no other way but to hang oneself. Hanging, after all, is more in line with the surrounding atmosphere. Tying oneself up and then hanging, letting the rope down from a height, mimicking the mysterious aura of those who have continuously committed suicide is also interesting.
Perhaps if the local suicide trend rises again, you might become a focal point of media attention. It's best not to write a suicide note, as that would only add to the mystery.
Suicide, Kumatori Town Station.
There are no accommodation facilities in Kumatori Town. If you arrive at night or plan to rest for a night before committing suicide, you can go to Hotel New Yutaka in Izumisano City, which is only a five-minute distance from the train station. This is a newly built high-class hotel with good interior decoration. A single room costs 6,800 yen, and a double room costs 14,000 yen, which is a reasonable price.
If you recklessly go to Kumatori Town, you will be confused by the geographical environment. It's best to arrive the day before, check the surroundings in advance, stay at this hotel, carefully contemplate your method, and decide on a location before going to commit suicide the next day.

However, the moment of suffocation is very painful, and death is tragic. Overall, it is not a very good method of suicide.
Drowning
Is it possible that some people mistakenly believe that good swimmers cannot drown themselves? No matter how skilled you are at swimming, you can still drown inexplicably due to "certain factors" that will be explained below. To date, many swimming experts have drowned.
Drowning suicide mainly results in death by asphyxiation. Experiencing a few seconds of difficulty breathing and suffocation cannot be considered a peaceful way to die. Nevertheless, this ancient and intriguing method of suicide has been adopted both in ancient and modern times, across cultures. This is evident from the fact that ancient Greek poets also used it. Currently in Japan, the elderly and women particularly favor this method. Although the overall utilization rate has decreased, statistics categorized by method show that it still ranks among the top five each year. The success rate is as high as eighty percent, which explains its strong appeal.
Basically, drowning or dying by submersion is not limited to the sea, lakes, rivers, or ponds; as long as there is "water," it can happen anywhere, and there is no need to fully immerse oneself in water. Many people have drowned in ditches after getting drunk, and there are even cases of individuals who fell asleep drunk on mountain trails and died when heavy rain caused their lungs to fill with water, referred to as "mountain drowning victims." There are also cases of people committing suicide by putting their heads into a basin or washing machine. The famous writer Osamu Dazai drowned in the Tamagawa River, and a member of the Self-Defense Forces drowned in water that was only forty centimeters deep.
[ Prepared ] Binding the body
The practice of binding the body is somewhat primitive, but it is a very effective method. By binding the feet and then tying the hands behind the back, if one jumps into the water, regardless of swimming skills, one will drown. (Of course, those with better skills can still float on their backs in such situations.)
However, it is difficult for a single person to bind their own hands and feet. Here, I will introduce a method that anyone can do: first, bind the feet, then tie the left hand (the dominant hand or the opposite hand) to the left thigh and jump in. If you row the boat to the deep sea or the center of the lake and then jump in, you will sink quickly. At this time, placing something heavy like a stone in your pocket will further accelerate drowning.
Feeling tired after drinking makes it easy to lose balance, which is quite reliable, and taking a large amount of sleeping pills makes it even more reliable.
If you want to die simply and conveniently, just drive the car into the water; as long as you do not try to climb out of the car, you will not be saved.
An even simpler method is to board a large passenger ship and jump into the water halfway; you will drown in the whirlpool created by the ship's wake. It is said that all the bodies recovered in the Seto Inland Sea were due to this. As for the location to jump in or enter the water, the sea and lakes are more ideal. When choosing, one should select a remote coastline with swift currents, and the time should naturally be at night when it is not easy to be discovered.
It's also okay in the bathroom
Dying in the bathroom is also very simple. Fill the bathtub with water, bind the feet, then tie the hands behind the back and lean down to put the head in the water; this method was successfully used by a certain housewife to commit suicide.
One particularly special method is to fill a fixed gasoline barrel with water; if you enter the water from the top, you can drown because you cannot escape.
Additionally, a location particularly suitable for drowning is the whirlpool in the Naruto Strait of the Seto Inland Sea. When swimming towards the whirlpool, you may be pushed away, but once you are caught in the whirlpool, you will never escape, resulting in a 100% fatality rate.
The best season is winter. When the water temperature is low, it can lead to shock death or cause cardiac arrest, and fatigue sets in quickly, allowing for a peaceful death. However, there are also cases of not drowning but rather dying from "hypothermia." To achieve hypothermia, it is advisable to consume some alcohol or sleeping pills.
[After] This is how swimming experts drown.
Now, let me introduce the method of suicide by drowning for those who can swim.
It is best to set off at night and swim straight ahead, which will carry you into the deep sea with the tide. Before long, you will feel fatigued but will be unable to stop. The waves in the open sea are large, and the frequency of drinking water increases, causing severe choking as water enters the trachea. In the continuous process of drinking, vomiting, and choking on water, water also enters the ear canal connected to the mouth and ears, which is crucial. Some people say, "The ear has a eardrum, and water should flow into the semicircular canals," but... in through the mouth.
The drowning process when entering the waterFirst, due to the sudden stimulation of the skin, a deep breath will be taken (Phase 1),followed by a period of 30 seconds to 1 minute of breath cessation (Phase 2). Soon after, due to the increase of carbon dioxide in the blood, there will be a period of 1 to 3 minutes ofintense spasmodic inhalation and exhalation (Phase 3), after which there will be about 1 minute ofconvulsions leading to loss of consciousness (Phase 4), and then death by drowning (Phase 5). (Excerpt from "The Little Forensic Medicine Book" by Jin Fang Tang)
Water entering the ear canal causes a physiological response that leads to bleeding in the part covering the semicircular canals, resulting in functional impairment of the semicircular canals due to acute circulatory failure. When this function is damaged, balance is lost, and it becomes difficult to distinguish up from down and left from right. The more one tries to inhale, the more water enters the trachea, causing spasms in the throat, ultimately leading to cessation of breathing, loss of consciousness, and sinking to the bottom.
This is generally how drowning occurs for those who can swim. The process of reaching a state of confusion is mostly not due to choking from drinking a large amount of water, but rather from inhaling water into the trachea during the choking process. In this case, even if you are a swimming expert, you will gain confidence in the method of suicide by drowning.
Moreover, some say that when one is about to lose consciousness, past memories will suddenly emerge with clarity like lightning, similar to the wonderful experiences described in hanging and jumping projects.
After losing consciousness, one first exhales deeply in the water, then inhales water into the lungs, leading to a cessation of breathing and death. The time from choking to losing consciousness is about one to three minutes; for freshwater, it takes four to five minutes, while for seawater, it takes eight to twelve minutes. It takes twenty minutes to half an hour for the heart to stop. That said, after more than two minutes in the water, it becomes difficult to be rescued.
●Figure 2 The relationship between the buoyancy of drowned bodies and water temperature (excerpted from "Modern Forensic Science" by Jinyuan Publishing)
[ Condition of the Body ]
Can you become Laura Palmer? (Note: Laura Palmer is the female protagonist of the T.V series "Twin Peaks")
The operators describe it as "giant-like," with skin peeling off, the scrotum swollen like a balloon, and the body covered in moss. Sometimes the hands and feet are bitten by sharks, leaving scars from the propellers of boats, and the flesh shows signs of having been eaten by fish, crabs, and others.
In a body submerged at a certain depth, 20% to 30% will float up after a while. Bodies that are retrieved from the land will expel a large amount of small bubbles from the mouth and nose. If the body does not float up quickly, in summer it may take two to three days, while in winter it may take two to three months to float up due to the decomposition gases produced within the body (refer to Figure 2). The buoyancy of the decomposition gases is quite strong, and even bodies with nearly ten kilograms of weight attached have floated up. However, when the sinking depth reaches over thirty or forty meters, the low water temperature prevents the accumulation of decomposition gases, and the water pressure compresses the gases, so most bodies will not float up.
Furthermore, the southernmost point of the four countries, Cape Ashizuri, is a place where bodies absolutely do not float to the surface, making it a popular spot for water suicides. Those who "refuse to be discovered" may choose a deep water location, such as Cape Ashizuri.
[ Note ] People who cannot swim have an advantage.
When diving into the sea and lakes, you must absolutely not be seen by others. Especially when jumping into the sea, it can lead to the deployment of costly coastal rescue teams.
People who can swim may also commit suicide in this way, but it cannot be denied that this method is suitable for those who do not know how to swim and the elderly. In fact, men in their twenties and thirties rarely choose to drown themselves. Although they may have made up their minds and jumped into the water, they still have to swim a few strokes, and there are many cases of being rescued during the splashing process. Those who can swim tend to choose other methods that are better.
[Case 22]
The female star who drowned after burying her head in the toilet
In 1944, a former red star of Hollywood movies drowned by burying his head in the toilet.
She was born in 1908 in Mexico, aspiring to be a famous actress. At the age of ten, she left Mexico City for Hollywood, playing the female lead in the film "The Goose." She later rose to the status of a renowned actress, dating many famous male actors and living a lavish lifestyle. Due to her willful and jealous nature, she became embroiled in divorce scandals and other controversies.
Because of these scandals, her reputation declined, and she soon fell to the level of R-rated comedy films. However, unable to forget her past glory, she lived a luxurious life burdened by unpayable debts. Eventually, she became pregnant by a young male actor, who demanded that she terminate the pregnancy.
In extreme despair, she felt that "it would be better to die than to live after aborting the child." She decided to commit suicide, inviting many friends to a lavish banquet held on credit, adorned with dozens of large candles. That night, she took a handful of sleeping pills and went to bed. However, she vomited in the middle of the night and failed to die. In extreme pain, she crawled to the bathroom and drowned her face in the toilet.
As a corpse, she certainly did not retain the beauty of the silver screen from her heyday, but her Her last words were: "I feel too tired of life and have grown weary of competition, even though I have wanted to compete since childhood."
A little bit of water in the toilet can lead to death; this is a case that proves that drowning can happen anywhere. At the same time, this case also shows us a typical failure example of drug-induced suicide. Nevertheless, the actress, who ended up in the toilet, lived a life that was too excessive.
Someone shouted, "Swim to the other side!" and everyone began to swim towards the opposite shore. This girl had crossed the lake many times, but she found herself in a situation where she also She was rescued, and later she talked about what happened at that time: "I was half-submerged and half-floating. Suddenly, I felt a sense of separation from my body, sitting alone in a void. I was completely still, but my body was floating and sinking in the water about three or four feet in front of me. I saw my body from the right rear. Even though my body was at a distance, I still felt that I had a complete body. ... I felt very relaxed, as if I had turned into a feather."
[ Inspection of this case ]
This is not suicide, but it describes the near-death experience that occurs just before drowning. This situation involves a consciousness separating from the body to observe one's soul leaving, with the body feeling as light as a feather. Moreover, regardless of how many times a swimming expert has crossed the lake, sometimes they can drown for "unknown reasons," which is worth noting.

However, the pain is also the strongest, and the state of death is tragic.
Self-immolation
There are many cases where one struggles for a long time before finally passing away. The aftereffects of not dying are more tragic than any other means of suicide. For those who simply want to die, I would never recommend this method. However, if you want to accuse something about this society and die for it, there is no more tragic way than self-immolation!
Monks who died opposing the government during the Vietnam War, students who recently committed suicide in South Korea for anti-government movements, and leaders of the Fukuoka Workers' Union in Japan fighting for better treatment of grassroots workers, all drew social attention through self-immolation. Indeed, the image of shouting one's claims while surrounded by flames is indeed powerful. Expressing strong will and determination to die through self-immolation is the best way.
The seven female followers who collectively committed suicide in 1986 following the late leader of the "True Friends Church" also chose self-immolation. Some may think that the number of people who resort to self-immolation and suicide is not very high, but the numbers have been increasing year by year, currently reaching about seven hundred in a single year, which is much more than those who commit suicide by electrocution. According to current medical diagnostic standards, one-third of all suicides are considered to be "narrowly defined" mental patients, and among those who attempt self-immolation, a majority are believed to suffer from mental illness.
[ Prepared ] Five liters is the safe zone.
It goes without saying that gasoline or kerosene can be used, but how many liters should be po
Burning twenty percent of the skin has already inflicted significant damage to the body, but to ensure death, one must douse the entire body in gasoline. Although there are cases of using two or three liters of kerosene and ending up with severe burns, it is bette to prepare at least five liters for safety's sake. Gasoline and kerosene can be poured little by little, and clothes catch fire easily, so they can be soaked. Kerosene entering the eyes is extremely painful and can cause them to close, but overthinking these details will hinder the act of self-immolation. If you are afraid of a fire, you might as well lay down a fire-retardant carpet underneath, so even if you lie there burning in the room, it won't cause a fire. There are also cases of a forty-eight-year-old housewife who poured gasoline on herself and then jumped into an incinerator to commit suicide, but there is no need for such drastic measures; instead, it becomes good material for women's magazines. After pouring gasoline, you can ignite the fateful fire with a lighter or match. Those who plan to make a statement should firmly keep it in mind beforehand to avoid forgetting it completely in a state of panic. There are also many who pour gasoline in a room and burn to death along with the house; in such cases, it would be better to choose a less painful method, as being seen burning is the greatest characteristic of self-immolation.
[After] A flame column rising three meters high.
The flames are much more intense than one might imagine. When gasoline or kerosene is ignited, it emits a sound and suddenly bursts into flames that reach two to three meters high. A body engulfed in flames will experience excruciating pain and a burning sensation, and due to the unbearable pain, the person may roll on the ground, surrounded by the smell of burning flesh.
However, overall awareness remains clear. The trachea is burned from inhaling hot air, but the voice can still be produced. Once the clothes are completely burned away, the fire will extinguish, but some people can still stand there using their own strength, continuing to shout (Case 24). After the fire is extinguished, if more than one-third of the skin is necrotic, there is a fifty percent chance of death; if more than two-thirds is necrotic, death is almost certain. The time of death varies; some may die instantly when their skin is burned black like charcoal, while others may be sent to the hospital by ambulance after the fire is put out, unable to move, and face death in a state of suffering. Some may take half a day or a day, and there are even cases where it takes five or ten days to finally breathe their last.
An eighty-two-year-old American woman who self-immolated while shouting "Oppose the Vietnam War" lived for ten days with her mind clear.
Her condition was likely due to being doused with poorly burning alcoholic cleaning agents. The causes of death resulting from self-immolation include shock, hypoxia, and the thermal coa With skin torn and flesh mangled, the condition of the corpse is only second to that of suicide. by lying on the tracks. After being doused with more than five liters of gasoline and set on fire, when no one extinguishes the flames, part or all of the skin's surface carbonizes, and all the hair is burned off. The skin peels away, exposing red flesh. The human body is primarily composed of water, so even if the skin carbonizes, the flesh is difficult to burn. At this time, the posture, due to muscle contraction, takes on a boxing stance as a characteristic. The skin that has not yet necrotized develops blisters, changing color from yellow to tea brown, and finally to black. The cornea of the eyes becomes cloudy, and it is common for the tongue to protrude.
[ Note ] Never fall into the hell of "lichen planus"!
What is most terrifying is to be left with a life, but to continue living with burn scars on the face or all over the body.
A woman doused herself in kerosene and lit a match but survived the suicide attempt. After three years of life on the hospital bed, her body was covered in keloids. Although she underwent five cosmetic surgeries, the keloids could not be removed, and she had no lips, making it impossible for her to open her mouth.
Moreover, compared to other suicide attempts where individuals try to commit suicide again, self-immolation may be less likely to lead to a desire to attempt suicide again due to the extreme nature of the method, which may result in a recovery from a near-death state and a restoration of emotional balance. However, skin grafting will incur enormous medical costs.
In order to avoid going to such extremes, at least pour five liters of gasoline, and if someone comes to help, shout loudly: "Stay away!" Even so, if you are still worried about failure, you can use it in conjunction with other methods. A man killed the woman who harmed him (aged twenty-four), ran to the tenth floor of his alma mater, poured gasoline, and jumped to his death. However, there is absolutely no need to go this far; self-immolation is a highly lethal method of suicide.
In summary, self-immolation is a painful method of suicide. However, it is important to remember that it does not lead to immediate death. Different people have their own preferences for how to die; if a person dies quietly, I would advise you to choose another method. However, if you believe you have lived an inconspicuous life and wish to make a grand exit when you die, then do as you please.
[ Case Study 24 ]
In November 1970, a young tailor (then 22 years old) who worked under terrible labor conditions set himself on fire in Peace Market, Seoul, demanding improvements in labor conditions.
Before this, he had been engaged in the movement to improve labor conditions, repeatedly facing setbacks. Finally, on November 3rd, he forcefully initiated a blocked demonstration in the Peace Market. When the workers participating in the demonstration clashed violently with the guards and police forces, he appeared at the market later than his companions and demanded that they "throw matches at me." When the matches were thrown at him, his whole body instantly became a pillar of fire. Then he turned into a fireball, pushing through the crowd while shouting: "Obey the Labor Basic Law! We are not machines! Give me back my Sunday! Oppose the brutal driving of workers!" He let out a final scream and collapsed.
However, he struggled to stand up again and shouted: "Don't let me die in vain!" His eyes and nose were burned beyond recognition. After he collapsed and lost consciousness, his comrades extinguished the fire three minutes later. When he was sent to the medical center, he mumbled, "I'm a bit hungry!" Nine hours later, around ten o'clock at night, he passed away.
His self-immolation and suicide were later named the "Declaration of Humanity," and it is still ci Manual is very clear.
This can be said to be the most effective use of self-immolation as a means of suicide. His suicide indeed had a significant effect, and for him in death, it was also a wish fulfilled.
[ Case Study 25 ]
A high school girl who committed suicide by self-immolation due to distress from incestuous relations with close relatives. There was a twelve-year-old high school girl who self-immolated in her uncle's yard.
She lost her mother shortly after birth due to her parents' divorce and was raised by her grandmother. Because of her father's job, she changed schools twice during elementary and middle school. The family environment she grew up in was very complicated; the reason for her parents' divorce was due to her mother having a sexual relationship with her uncle.
However, the reasons that led her to the path of suicide were even more complex. She herself had sexual relations with her grandfather and father. Troubled by this, she was still in her first year of middle school and began to miss classes for a long time two months before the summer vacation. Finally, on a day just past noon, she went to her uncle's backyard, the cause of her parents' divorce, doused herself in gasoline, and committed self-immolation.
At school, she often played volleyball, giving the impression that she was no different from ordinary students.
[Cause of Death Examination]
A twelve-year-old girl committing self-immolation is a shocking case, but it is important to note the location of her death. Her hatred for her uncle may have been quite significant, so she deliberately went to her uncle's backyard to become a fireball, which was also very effective in evoking the desire for revenge. It is even more surprising that a twelve-year-old girl had sexual relations with two relatives, her grandfather and father; it is truly horrifying! She probably felt that suicide was a way to vent the terror, resentment, and despair she was suppressing, as methods like jumping or crashing a car would be too inconspicuous.
In this situation, self-immolation was the most appropriate choice. However, she had already missed classes for two months before the summer vacation, meaning she only attended school during April and May. So what happened during this period when she changed schools twice? The information is still unclear; could there be even more complicated hidden circumstances?

However, one must be aware that after a large-scale search, a failed suicide attempt may result in frostbite of the limbs, necessitating amputation.
Frostbite Death
Dying from frostbite is probably as comfortable as hanging oneself. Saying such things may raise doubts about their authenticity, but this is what survivors say, so we have to believe it.
Nevertheless, very few people choose to die from frostbite as a method of suicide, and statistically, it falls under the category of "others." Perhaps it is because deliberately going to a snowy mountain is too troublesome. However, dying from frostbite is not a phenomenon that only occurs in snowy mountains and cold regions; it can also happen indoors if the conditions are right, and the temperature does not necessarily have to be below freezing. Reports indicate that in Tokyo, more than a dozen people die from frostbite every year, and there are also cases in warmer places. News of homeless people dying from frostbite frequently appears in the newspapers, and for the homeless in Tokyo and Osaka, surviving the cold winter is a very practical wish.
After talking for half a day, it still comes down to a grand theory. After all, no one wants to freeze to death in a room, and I have never heard of anyone committing suicide by freezing to death in a room. In the United States, there have been cases of people freezing to death in refrigerators, but that can only be considered an exception.
To freeze to death, although it is troublesome, going to a snowy mountain is a better option. This method has many advantages, which can compensate for those troubles! Below, I will introduce this in detail, such as the body being undamaged and less suffering, etcetera A person's tolerance to cold is an important factor, so this method of suicide is not suitable for those who are not afraid of the cold.
[ Prepared ] Select a leisure spot on the mountain as the target!
To go to the snowy mountain, first buy a guidebook on cold mountain leisure spots to understand the situation. Even without mountaineering experience and physical strength, anyone can reach places cold enough to freeze a person. When going skiing, it is advisable to visit places that are rarely frequented by people. Even near the ski practice area, you might find a suitable spot. Of course, those who enjoy climbing can carefully decide on the route and location.
Things to prepare: sedatives, painkillers, and other medications that can stabilize emotions and help with sleep, which can be bought at pharmacies, as well as alcohol. Drinking can indeed raise body temperature, but it is also permissible to drink a little to overcome pain. After all, it is hard to resist the external cold once you are in the snow.
Taking off your clothes can lead to death in one night, but it is somewhat difficult, so at least find a place where others cannot find you for two or three days. If you can fall asleep, that would be even better.
Choosing the coldest winter to freeze to death in a room
If you really want to die in a room, you must choose a day in mid-winter and also check the weather forecast to select the coldest night. Additionally, you must make some preparations to lower your body temperature: pour water all over your naked body, then face a fan and air conditioner, with windows and the refrigerator open. You should also be fasting, sleep-deprived, and fatigued; otherwise, it will be difficult to achieve. Drinking a little alcohol beforehand can cause the blood vessels on the surface of the body to dilate, quickly lowering body temperature and hastening death. Of course, some patience is also needed, as this is to wait for the onset of sleepiness.
Ways to freeze to death on the street: You can wear wet clothes at night and go to a secluded park, open space, or forest. To avoid suspicion from people, carrying a water bottle when deciding on a location is also advisable. Try to Choose a place with faster heat dissipation, but the most important thing is not to let people see it. In a state of five degrees Celsius, no wind, semi-nude, and on an empty stomach, there are cases where one can freeze to death within a day; there are also cases where a drunken person, returning home at night in the lowest temperature of five degrees, freezes to death on the road. In water, the danger of freezing to death is high at a temperature of fifteen degrees; if the water temperature is five degrees, immersion for a few hours can lead to death, and such water temperatures can sometimes cause the heart to stop instantly. A forty-three-year-old housewife, who sent a suicide note to the editorial department of a newspaper and magazine, froze to death in a park pool by the roadside in the city of Suiran during the winter season.
[After] "The Sweet Sense of Dizziness"
Whether diving into a snowdrift or stripping naked in a room, the process of death is the same.
At first, the whole body shivers with cold, and when the rectal temperature reaches thirty-five degrees, feelings of fatigue, lethargy, and drowsiness occur. The famous saying that even children know, "If you sleep, you will die!" refers to this situation. As the body temperature drops to thirty-three or thirty-four degrees, cognitive ability gradually weakens, consciousness becomes unclear, and one is enveloped by a "sweet sense of dizziness." At temperatures between thirty and twenty-three degrees, one loses consciousness until death. When it drops below twenty-five degrees, it becomes "_ _".
Regarding this sweet sense of trance, a certain frostbitten suicide survivor said this: "With rapid breathing, there is a sense of... confusion..." Additionally, in a report obtained during an interview, there are the following examples: Thousands of dazzling rays of light flashed before her eyes, and the roar of thousands of cannons echoed in her ears. Her feet felt intense pain, as if she were running on a bed of needles, and soon drowsiness set in. A calming sense of fatigue continuously surged, as if she were being liberated from the worries and disasters of the world.
The air is fresh, as if it were a spring breeze, and beautiful music once again resonates in her ears. As she leans her body against the soft fur pillow to take a nap, various colorful lights begin to shine, and before long, she becomes disoriented, regaining her senses only after being rescued. Some survivors also said, "I had a dream of dancing wildly at a grand banquet."
Based on the above experience, it can be said that, like jumping off a building, freezing to death is also a method of suicide that, apart from the initial cold, involves no pain at all.
●Figure 1 The relationship between rectal temperature, maximum blood pressure, and physical condition (excerpt from "Modern Forensic Medicine" Jin Yuan Publishing)
[ Condition of the Body ] Is it really the "most beautiful"?
The bodies frozen to death in the snow are sometimes described as "the most beautiful way to die," just like those who succumb to gas poisoning, but this varies depending on the time of discovery. If the body is preserved in a frozen state due to the snow, the skin appears a translucent white due to the loss of blood. However, by the time the spring snow melts, the body begins to decay. The corpse class is red, which is due to the combination of oxygen and hemoglobin in the blood turning into pink oxidized hemoglobin. In places like snow-canned mountains, sometimes the tins of the fingers and toes can get frosthite and swell. Occasionally, it may also occur.
In cases of neurological disorders, situations where individuals undress themselves and are discovered are not uncommon. There are also many instances where bodies are torn apart by wild animals (Case 26). Therefore, it cannot be said that this is very beautiful.
[ Note ]
You will be found!
No matter where you die, it is most important not to be discovered halfway. In snowy mountain areas, if you are rescued with parts of your hands and feet frozen, you may need to be amputated and become a person without hands and feet. However, necrosis will not occur unless the temperature drops below freezing.
Furthermore, in cases of suicide in snowy mountains, when family and friends request a search after discovery, it requires a huge amount of search costs. Therefore, it is necessary to take some precautions in advance, such as not leaving behind a suicide note that hints at your whereabouts, and making phone calls as usual when going out.
If you really want to commit suicide, it is better to head towards the snowy mountains. Dying from freezing in a room or by the roadside requires all conditions to be met and is difficult to avoid being discovered.
●Figure 2 Near Black Mountain.
Female playwright who froze to death in the snowy mountains In June 1981, a female skeleton was discovered in the Daisetsuzan mountain range. Mountain, about three hundred meters inside a primeval forest on The female writer is Keiko Sugiyama, who participated in the production of the film "Seven Crim The bones were scattered everywhere, with only the skull, right femur, and tibia discovered. In winter, wild animals such as foxes and field mice frequently roam this area, and there are signs of animal bites, suggesting that these animals may have enjoyed the remains during the winter!
Near the body, there was a bottle of sleeping pills, with some tablets still remaining. It is estimated that the amount of sleeping pills taken was not lethal. There was also a large bottle of whiskey in the bag, with about eighty percent still left.
The date on the train ticket found among her belongings was October 24, 1980, from the year b It is believed that she traveled from her residence in Tokyo to the sparsely populated winter Daisetsuzan, walked into the primeval It is be ... you that she traveled from her residence in Tokyo to the spring. The winter Daisetsuzan, walked into the prime forest from the train station, and then took sleeping pills and froze to death. Keiko Sugiyama began writing plays about five years ago and felt very frustrated about not being able to stand out, while also panicking about the relentless passage of time. Although there were several lines of hasty handwriting left in the manuscripts, they were illegible due to ink saturation, and as a result, her motive for suicide remained unclear.
This is a typical case of suicide by freezing after taking sleeping pills in the snowy mountains. However, the body was found in a state that was hard to bear, not the most beautiful sight. In the snowy mountains, after ten months, the body would turn into white bones, and one must also be cautious of wild animal attacks.
Furthermore, when considering suicide by freezing in the snowy mountains, it is necessary to conduct some preliminary field research. Sugiyama herself had done some research on the local area because she was writing the script for "Saturday Theater" (Asahi Television), which was set in Hokkaido.
If you find it too troublesome to choose a suicide location, I advise you to take the same route as she did. To be cautious, let me introduce the method to go to Mount Kurodake. First, go to Asahikawa, then take a two-hour ride from Asahikawa to Sounkyo Onsen. After that, take the cable car, and at the transfer point of the cable car, turn towards the snow path and enter the original forest (refer to Figure 2).
To imitate her method of death, you could buy some sleeping pills and sedatives available in the drug section, and bringing a large bottle of alcohol wouldn't be a bad idea either. Even if the body is scattered, at least it will be completely dead before the scattering. =V.5.U.K -----End P.G.P Signature----- -----Begin P.G.P Signed Message----- Special Cases Other methods of suicide Other methods of suicide In addition to the methods introduced above, there are many other ways to commit suicide.
For example, there is the method of suicide using firearms, which I haven't introduced since it's not easy to obtain.
In movies and television, scenes often depict someone aiming a gun at their forehead or temple and pulling the trigger, as if this is a typical method of suicide with a firearm. However, this method of pulling the trigger is not recommended. The skull is much harder than one might imagine, and if the angle is not right, the bullet could ricochet. Even if it penetrates, the bullet could splinter, causing fragments to injure the brain inside the skull, and it could end up exiting through the eye or the other side, resulting in a failed attempt. If one must use a gun, it should be placed in the mouth to penetrate the medulla oblongata at the back of the head; that is the correct method.
In this chapter, let us learn about these other methods of suicide through case studies.
[ Case Study 27 ]
Two sisters who starved to death in the Tokyo Metropolitan Toei Shinjuku New Village In August 1985, two decomposed female bodies were discovered in a room in the Toei Shinjuku New Village in Adachi Ward, Tokyo. They were a pair of sisters, aged twenty-five and twenty-three, and the cause of death was starvation. The estimated time of death was around late 1984 to February 1985. Next to the bodies, there was an old envelope with the words "I will show you death" written by the older sister.
Starvation Suffering ▼▼▼▼▼ Trouble ▼▼▼▼ Death ▼▼▼▼ Mortality Rate ▼▽▽▽▽ The older sister worked hard to pay for her mother's and younger sister's medical expenses, as well as the debts left by their father. Her diligent work attitude was well regarded at her workplace, but her monthly salary of 110,000 yen was insufficient to repay the debts, and she ultimately had to borrow money. Before long, the amount borrowed reached 3 million yen, and debt collection calls were made to her workplace. Even so, the older sister continued to work diligently.
In 1955, the elder sister moved to this new village with her parents and younger sister. Their mother was weak, and their father worked away from home for long periods, so they received a monthly living allowance of 110,000 yen. The younger sister, who already had some mental health issues, was often bullied after starting middle school and frequently skipped school. The elder sister took care of their mother's illness while encouraging her sister and also enrolled in a commercial high school.
However, during her third year of high school, their father returned home with a large debt and died the following year from cancer. At that time, the younger sister was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, and the elder sister lost the living allowance due to her employment.
Finally, their mother passed away in 1983. However, the relatives did not agree to let her take the ashes back. Around this time, the elder sister began to feel tired of life. She carelessly left garbage bags on the balcony, and the phone calls from debt collectors were incessant. Starting in June 1984, she began to take leave from work and was eventually fired in September. Moreover, in September, their electricity and gas were cut off due to unpaid bills, and by January of the following year, even the water supply was cut off.
The debt collectors came knocking on their door, and the two had to pretend to be out to avoid taking out the trash. In October, they went to their neighbors asking for food, and after a while, the neighbors became worried and came looking for them, but they replied, "Don't worry about us anymore!" In fact, it was around this time that the idea of suicide may have already taken root.
It was probably after the younger sister died that the elder sister followed. By spring, they were discovered due to the stench from the flies. At that time, the younger sister was wearing a T-shirt and slacks, curled up next to the elder sister, who was inexplicably naked except for a cardigan, while her lower body was completely bare.
The room was filled with garbage, bedding, and clothes, including magazines like "Seventeen" and novels by Jiro Akagawa. Large posters of Yumiko Oshima and the fantasy manga "Cotton Country Star" were plastered on the walls.
[Cause of Death Examination]
This is a shocking misfortune. The method of starving to death is one that can only be chosen after enduring the hardships of life. They were so exhausted that they didn't even have the strength to commit suicide.
Although the differences between people are significant, if one does not even drink water, one can die in one to two weeks. If one only drinks water, one can starve to death in thirty to forty days. The amount of energy stored is also a major factor, which means that for sisters who are somewhat overweight, it probably takes longer for them to die than for the average person.
The family of four each has their own misfortunes, but the sister's misfortune is even more tragic. The mother's illness, the father's debts, the younger sister's bullying and sickness—all the misfortunes weigh heavily on her shoulders. No matter how hard she tries, she cannot gain any reward; on the contrary, the more she tries, the worse the situation becomes.
Her life seems to be standing at the crossroads of whether to commit suicide or not. Naturally, if she wanted to live, it would be possible, but she refused help and chose death instead. In the face of such a life, could there still be people who say foolish things like "as long as you live, good things will happen," "if you want to die, you can do anything," or "suicide is for the weak"? Regarding her statement "I'll show you death," I fear there would be no words to respond.

On that day, around one in the afternoon, a local elder walking in a nearly deserted area far from the tourist route found a skull slightly exposed on the sand surface. After calling the police, excavation revealed a body squatting in a sand pit, with its left hand holding a small shovel, as if cradling it in its chest.
This man was a missing person who had disappeared fourteen years earlier in 1974 due to loss and illness, at the age of thirty-two. One night, he came to the sand dunes and dug a hole about one meter deep on the slope with a shovel. After squatting down, he piled sand onto himself with both hands and then suffocated to death by leaning against the sand that buried his head. In the letter left for his parents after he went missing, he wrote: "Searching is also in vain."
[Cause of Death Examination]
This is a thorough example of someone who is determined to erase themselves from society.
Tottori Sand Dunes are a hidden gem in Japan, renowned alongside the Sea of Trees, but suffocating oneself to death by being buried in quicksand is extremely painful. For fourteen years, he went undiscovered, and one could say he achieved his goal, but it is not a method worth recommending. After all, there are many ways to commit suicide without leaving a body.
Bear Pain ☑☑☑☑☑ Trouble ☑☑☑☑☑ Death Certificate ☑☑☑☑☑ Connection ☑☑☑☑☑ Impact ☑☑☑☑☑ Mortality Rate ☑☑☑☑☑ A female killed by a bear cub In February 1989, around seven o'clock in the evening, a seventeen-year-old housewife ran to Aso Kumamoto Farm in Ahakacho, about an hour and a half away from home, and jumped into the bear enclosure to commit suicide.
The caretaker, hearing a loud "thud," rushed over and only saw the bear enclosure two and a half meters below the fence, where eighteen bears were huddled together like a small black mountain. After using a fire extinguisher to disperse the bears, a human body emerged from the white powder. The corpse had been torn apart by the cubs, with the internal organs completely missing, and a large hole opened from the stomach to the intestines, with multiple bite marks all over the hands, feet, and body. The clothes were shredded, resembling a naked body.
She was a devout Buddhist and had previously discussed topics like "falling into the world of demons" and "people die, but the soul lives on." After leaving home in the afternoon, she said, "Take me to that world," and left a suicide note for her husband. Neighbors also considered her to be an eccentric person.
Some people said that this woman had previously mentioned, "I want to be eaten by a tiger," and had thought about the old tiger's cage next to the bear enclosure, but since she couldn't enter the iron bars, she jumped into the bear enclosure instead.
Using the method of being eaten by an animal to commit suicide is an unexpected approach. However, the motivation has a somewhat religious tone, and the method of death is too detached from reality to be considered a reference for suicide. Moreover, this method is painful, the corpse is gruesome, and the reliability of death is not high, so I would not want to encourage anyone to use it.
Suffering ▼ American woman who died using a suicide device American pathologist Dr. Jack Kevorkian is known for developing a unique "suicide device." This device consists of three inverted bottles containing physiological saline, pentothal, and potassium chloride, designed to be thirty centimeters high. Pentothal is an anesthetic used during surgery, while potassium chloride is a lethal drug used in executions. The structure allows the suicide volunteer to press a button, which starts a timer; the saline automatically transforms into pentothal, and after one minute, potassium chloride begins to flow into the body.
The device was used for suicide in June 1990 by American housewife Janet Adkins (then fifty-four years old). After being diagnosed with early-onset dementia in 1989 and planning to end her life, she heard about Dr. Kevorkian's suicide device and made contact. Dr. Kevorkian prepared a white Volkswagen van and sought a suitable campground for the suicide.
In June 1990, she and the doctor drove to the park; she hid in the back of the van while the doctor first inserted a needle into her vein to inject the saline. As the doctor adjusted the flow, Janet pressed the button, and the liquid transformed into pentothal. Twenty seconds later, she fell asleep, and then the pentothal switched to potassium chloride.
Forty seconds later, her face turned red, and after another thirty seconds, it turned blue, quickly developing red spots. The electrocardiogram became a straight line after five minutes and thirty seconds; in fact, her heart had already stopped beating before that. Janet was an English teacher and a serious woman who loved classical music; everyone believed that her personality Janet was an English teacher and a serious woman who loved classical music; everyone believed that her personality made it difficult for her to bear early-onset dementia.
[Cause of Death Examination]
This incident sparked a nationwide debate on the right to die with dignity, known as the "assist
At present, if one truly wants to die completely reliably and peacefully, they can only rely on Dr. Kevorkian's assisted suicide; otherwise, there is no other way. In October 1991, he used this device to assist two women in suicide, and he was constantly consulted by others seeking his help. He was able to use this device because the state of Michigan, where he lived, Therefore, Kanter specifically traveled from Oregon to Michigan.
Aside from the pain of the needle, there is no other suffering, and one can die in a state of sleep. Regardless of others' opinions, if one does not want to die in their own room but is willing to go to America, it might be worth making contact. However, for those who are not afflicted by illness, it is uncertain whether they would be willing to use this device.
Japan also has a Right to Die Association, but the association only recognizes patients suffering from terminal cancer who cannot be treated with current medical technology and are unwilling to undergo few-tul life-extending measures, opposing general suicide.
The contact information for the Japan Right to Die Association is as follows: Postal Code 113, 2-29-1 Hongo, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo Watanabe Building, 2nd Floor Phone: 03-3818-6563 A man who committed suicide by gas poisoning in an attempt

According to investigations, this man had taken out insurance with three companies, including "Anden Life," "Dai-ichi Life," and "Hyaku Life," between May and July two years before his suicide, which would allow his family to claim 7.62 million yen after his death.
He had told people before his death, "I want to leave insurance money for my children when I die." This man had suffered from tuberculosis for four years and later became passionate about racing, which led to financial difficulties and caused great misfortune for his family, making him feel ashamed and distressed. At the time of his suicide, he was living apart from his family.
While working at a real estate company, he also took on the role of a night watchman at a bowling alley and a salesperson for a life insurance ompany, and even borrowed money from friends and family to pay a total of 5.5 million yen in insurance premiums.
According to his colleagues at the real estate company, he was usually honest and did not seem [Cause of Death Examination]
If it were a suicide using ordinary gas, a person wanting to commit suicide should know a bit about life insurance, which is why this example is introduced. Life insurance benefits can be paid out even if the cause of death is suicide, but one must be enrolled for at least a year before the benefits can be claimed. Moreover, the earlier the insurance money is claimed, the more advantageous it is, so it would be best to die immediately after a year of signing the contract. However, considering these factors to commit suicide, it is likely that there is no one else besides this man.

First, there is data classified by method. What methods have suicides used up to now?

●Figure 1 Statistics of various suicide methods
●The first place is hanging, followed by jumping, and the others are ranked as follows:
According to the statistics from the Ministry of Health in 1991, "hanging, strangulation, and suffocation" (hanging, strangulation, plastic bags, etcetera) accounted for 31,313 people, dominating the statistics with a significant advantage. The second is "jumping from a height" with 2,119 people, the third is "solid or liquid" (poisoning) with 1,360 people, the fourth is "drowning" with 1,342 people, and the fifth is "gas or vapor" with 251 people. Following that are 85 people who jumped into volcanoes, 783 people who suffered from thermal injuries (self-immolation), 616 people who used sharp objects (such as cutting wrists), and electrocution is particularly low, with only 56 people.
Hanging once ceded the first place to poisoning from 1955 to 1960, but in 1980 it rose again, breaking the 10,000 mark, firmly reclaiming the top position. Jumping also broke the 2,000 mark in 1986 due to the jump of singer Yukiko Okada, and since the following year, it has remained above 2,000, stabilizing at that level.
Poisoning peaked in 1960 during the wave of sleeping pill suicides, once reaching first place, but later declined. However, for some unknown reason, there was a resurgence between 1985 and 1987, reaching over 2,000 people. Currently, due to increasingly strict drug regulations, there is a slight downward trend. Drowning had over 2,000 suicides in 1960, but now it has decreased to around 1,400 people. Natural gas saw a surge in the mid-1970s due to the popularity of gas, with a record of 3,000 people. Since urban gas has been replaced with natural gas that does not contain carbon monoxide, the number of people using vehicle exhaust gases has also dropped to around 1,000, and the ranking order has generally not changed. For changes in suicide methods between men and women, please refer to Figure 2.
● Women commonly use drowning and plastic bags The most striking difference between men and women is in drowning suicides. Among suicides, men predominate worldwide, regardless of the method of suicide, with a basic ratio of three to two or two to one, favoring men. However, why in Japan drowning suicides have historically been more common among women, regardless of whether the total number of drowning suicides is high or low each year, is that the number of male suicides is only two-thirds that of females.
The number of suffocation suicides using plastic bags is no more than one or two hundred each year, but the majority are women, and the reasons are entirely unclear. It has also been mentioned in the text that the number of men who commit suicide by electrocution is surprisingly high. There are also no more than one hundred cases of electrocution suicides each year, with only a little over ten cases among females, while the number of males never falls below ninety percent of the total. This remains a "mystery" that experts have not solved; of course, some say it is due to women's lack of knowledge about electricity, but the reasons are also unclear.
● Jumping has a significant impact on teenage girls Regardless of age group, hanging is overwhelmingly the most common method, but it is primarily used by girls in their teens and twenties. Since 1986, jumping has surpassed hanging. Especially among teenagers, in 1990, there were seventy-four jumping suicides compared to thirty-one hanging suicides, while in 1986 the ratio was one hundred twenty-two to seventy-eight, with jumping more than doubling. In 1985, the number of jumping suicides among teenage girls was only fifty-two. Undoubtedly, this is influenced by the suicide of Yukiko Okada, whose impact on Japan's suicide history is immeasurable.
In the past, there were examples where the number of jumping suicides exceeded that of hanging. In the peak year of sleeping pills in 1960, there were one hundred thirty-one hanging suicides among those in their teens to twenties, while suicides by sleeping pills reached as high as three hundred eighty-nine.
However, aside from such examples, hanging always ranks first regardless of the time or age group. It is said that in the United States, gun suicides rank first, certainly due to the ease of access to firearms. However, including other countries like the United States, hanging is commonly used, indicating that hanging is the most popular method of suicide.
[ Research on Suicide Day ]
● May is the Peak Season for Suicide
First, looking at the data by month, the global trend shows that there are more suicides in spring and autumn, and fewer in summer and winter. At the same time, some reports indicate that there are more in spring than in autumn, and fewer in winter than in summer, with April having the highest number, followed by May, and the least in December and January. However, regardless of the month, the differences are not very significant. According to statistics from recent years in Japan, May has the highest number. According to data from 1991, the monthly situation of suicides is shown in Figure 3, with May having the highest number and February the lowest.
● Sundays also have a
break from suicide In Tokyo, after organizing the cases of over two thousand suicides handled by the emergency department over six years, the order of suicides (including attempts) is as follows: Tuesday (15.3%), Monday (14.9%), Friday (14.5%), Sunday (13%), and Saturday (13.8%). In a certain area of Tokyo, the survey results show that Thursday has From the perspective of successful suicides, Wednesday is the least. More than a hundred years ago, the French sociologist Gailcab made statistics showing that Tuesdays and Thursdays were more frequent, while Fridays to Sundays decreased. Sundays were less frequent, and this was the same, and there was not much difference on other days.
During the day So, what time of day do most suicides happen? According to an analysis of data from 8,000 cases handled by the Tokyo Observational Medical Institute over three years since 1955, the highest number of suicides occurs between 21:00 and 24:00, while the early morning hours see the least. At that time, the use of sleeping pills for suicide was prevalent, with 36% occurring between 21:00 and 24:00, and 56% occurring between 21:00 and 03:00. In the investigation of the attempted cases conducted in Kamakura, most occurred at night, while there were fewer during the early morning and daytime. Dividing a day into four segments of six hours each, the ongoing survey shows that most have succeeded.
Between twelve and eighteen hours (32.1%) and between zero and six hours (27.4%), the least is between eighteen and twenty-four hours (19.0%) and between six and twelve hours (21.4%). However, among the unsuccessful attempts, it is instead between eighteen and twenty-four. At that time, the highest was 31.0%, followed by 29.4% from 12 to 18 hours. These survey results show inconsistent outcomes so they cannot be generalized; however, suicides at night and in the morning can at least be trusted. However, in the survey conducted in Niigata Prefecture, the order of suicide times is ○ to six o'clock (29.4%), twelve to eighteen o'clock (23.5%), eighteen to twenty-four o'clock (21.6%), and six to twelve o'clock (17.6%). The time from six to twelve is relatively less, and the rest is roughly the same, making it difficult to analyze the results beyond this. In rural areas where elderly suicide rates are higher, the timing of suicides can be said to differ from that in urban areas.
[ Ranking of Suicides ]
The number of suicides is double
that of homicides So, are there more suicides? According to Figure 4, there were two peaks after the war, from 1955 to 1958 and from 1983 to 1986, with over twenty thousand deaths in a year, and since then the numbers have been decreasing, with only a slight increase in 1992. However, the increase in 1983 is believed to be due to microfinance, while the increase in 1986 was influenced by Yukiko Okada.
Overall, it fluctuates around twenty thousand. This is 1.5 to 2.0 times that of traffic accidents, and 2.5 times that of homicides.
● Suicide ranks high among those aged 20 to 30 In terms of causes of death, in the past decade, suicide has ranked seventh, following cancer, heart disease, cerebral hemorrhage, pneumonia, bronchitis, accidental injuries, and aging. During the post-war period, many deaths were due to tuberculosis and gastroenteritis, so it was ranked lower.
However, from the perspective of age groups, recent records show that suicide ranks first among those in their twenties and second, after accidents or cancer, among those in their thirties. It ranks third among those aged fifteen to nineteen and forty to forty-four. Among the elderly, where the suicide rate is very high, the ranking of suicide decreases with increasing age. The statement from the Statistics Division of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare that "the numbers show that there are more elderly among suicides" is based on this reason.
may not be correct.
Cancer ranks first, with over ten thousand deaths annually among those over forty. However, as people reach their fifties, sixties, and seventies, the number of deaths increases to twenty thousand, forty thousand, and sixty thousand, respectively. At the same time, the ranking for suicide is fifth, sixth, and seventh.
Specifically, looking at the numbers from 1991, there were 962 suicides among those aged twenty to twenty-four, resulting in a death rate of 10.4% per hundred thousand people, ranking second. In contrast, for those aged seventy to seventy-four, there were 188 suicides, with a death rate of 30.5%, ranking ninth. Indeed, the suicide rate is high when considering the population ratio.
However, if someone asks which group has the highest number of suicides, the ranking is an important answer. It can be said that the younger generation, from ten to thirty years old, has the highest number of suicides.

● An Unfathomable Suicide Powerhouse - Hungary Which country has the highest number of suicides? Even in Japan's statistical methods, the Ministry of Health and the National Police Agency differ by over a thousand among twenty thousand people, making it unnecessary to compare by country, but it is an interesting question, so a comparison is made. According to the latest data from who (World Health Organization), looking at the suicide death rate (the number of suicides per ten million population), Hungary, known as a suicide powerhouse, ranks first with 39.9% (1990 survey). Men alone account for an astonishing 59.9%. Following are Sri Lanka at 33.2% (1986), Finland at 28.5% (1989), Denmark at 24.1% (1990), Austria at 23.6% (1990), the former Soviet Union at 21.8% (1990), and Switzerland at 21.9% (1990). In contrast, Greece has very few, at only 3.8%
(1989) can be said to be terrifyingly scarce. Other statistics include Israel's 6.8% (1988), Argentina's 7.4% (1987), the United Kingdom's 8.1% (2000), Portugal's 8.8% (2000), Puerto Rico's 8.9% (1989), the Netherlands' 10.2% (1989), and Hong Kong's 10.5% (1989). In summary, the statistics are somewhat ambiguous and do not require deep investigation. Among major countries, Japan has a rate of 6.4% (1990), the United States has 12.4% (1988), France has 20.9% (1989), and China has 17.1% (1989), with a notable characteristic being the higher number of female suicides in China. Canada has a rate of 13.3% (1989). Japan was ranked first during the peak of barbiturate suicides and was referred to as the"suicide superpower," but currently it is in the middle.
● The United States, where suicides by gun are prevalent, and Germany, where hanging is common.
It is also interesting that the methods of suicide vary by country.
According to the current saying, the United States has gun violence, Italy, which has the water city of Venice, uses drowning. Germany is characterized by hanging. According to recent data, the suicide rate in the United States due to guns and explosives is 47.1%, which is indeed quite high. The following is poisoning. Gas is 20.8%, hanging is 20.5%, and other methods are relatively few. In Italy, Switzerland, Canada, and Australia, it is said that gun suicides are the most common.
Data from West Germany in 1969 shows that hanging accounts for the absolute majority, at 39% of all cases. The following is poisoning. Sleeping pills account for 23%, gas for 13%, and drowning for 9%.
Of course, there are regional differences; in Berlin, gas is the most common, while in Hamburg, sleeping pills are the most prevalent. Similar to Japan, jumping from heights only accounts for 5%. Similarly, in Sweden and Denmark, hanging is the most common method.
Data from England and Wales in 1965 shows that among males, gas accounts for 34%, followed by tranquilizers. Anesthetics account for 25%, and hanging for 13%. For females, drugs account for 49% and gas for 33%. It is unclear why these two methods are so prevalent, while other methods are in single digits. In France, the most common method is drugs. According to data from 1966 and 1970, the first is drugs, the second is sharp instruments, and the third is gas. Females use drugs particularly frequently. India also has a high incidence of drug use. In 1966 The Complete Suicide Manual The statistics from that year show that although the sample size is only 912 people, the order is drugs at 46%, drowning at 22%, and hanging at 14%. In Nigeria, Africa, according to data published in 1996, hanging accounts for the highest percentage at 50%, followed by firearms, poison, and sharp objects.
The above situation seems to reflect various national conditions.
● A place that inspires suicidal thoughts - Golden Gate Bridge Just like in Japan, there are certainly suicide hotspots overseas.
The most famous one is the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, U.S.A. As many suicides have said, they did not come with the intention of committing suicide, but rather to witness the breathtaking scenery that inspires suicidal thoughts. A seventy-year-old man left a note asking, "What has created such an easily suicidal landscape?" before jumping off. Similarly, the Nicaraguan Falls in the U.S.A is also known as a suicide hotspot. The River Thames in the U.K and the Ganges in India have also been referred to as suicide hotspots, and in Japan, it would probably be the Kegon Falls.

The initial reason for writing this book is simply because I am tired of the notion of "not being able to commit suicide," which seems to have no basis no matter how one thinks about it, yet is trusted by the public in a very naive way.
It is common to see elementary school teachers asking students to write essays on the topic of "the importance of life"; people who commit suicide are often said to have weak willpower, and so on. In a society where phrases like "you must live strong" can be easily uttered, it not only creates a suffocating environment but also makes life painful. Therefore, I hope this book can circulate and create the option of "if absolutely necessary, one can choose to die," aiming to open a vent in a closed society that has reached a dead end, allowing air to flow and making life a little easier. This is my true purpose.
I'm not elaborating on the boring idea of "Let's all die!" If you want to live, you have to live To be at ease; if one wants to die, one should die comfortably. Life should be just like this. Here, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the editor, Rakuomei Shasa, the art designer, Narimoto Narikazu, and the illustrator, Shadashi Rorakazuri.
