University at Buffalo (S.U.N.Y) - Master in Biomedical Engineering
1. Why Going to U.S.A?
I am going to U.S.A to pursue a Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering from University at Buffalo - S.U.N.Y.
2. When did you complete?
I did my Diploma in radiography and Bachelors of Engineering in Mining Engineering in 2018 and following that I completed my Bachelors of science in Physics in 2024.
3. What you did after?
After completing my bachelor's degree, I joined Pramukh Nuclear center as P.E.T-C.T scan technician and for my Masters studies In the U.S.A I cleared P.T.E exam.
4. Why this program?
My academic background connects medical imaging with core engineering principles.
First, my diploma in Radiography introduced me to diagnostic equipment and showed me how medical devices support healthcare. Next, my Physics degree gave me a strong understanding of electromagnetism, waves, and radiation, which are key to medical imaging. Finally, my Mining Engineering degree taught me system design and problem-solving in complex environments.
Biomedical Engineering brings all these areas together. It focuses on designing, developing, and improving healthcare technologies. It allows me to apply my knowledge of physics and engineering to improve medical systems and diagnostic technologies.
Therefore, this is not a change in direction but a structured progression combining my exposure to healthcare and engineering into a highly specialized field.
5. Why this program-Brief answer?
Radiography gave me hands-on exposure to imaging systems, Physics built my understanding of radiation and signal behaviour, and Engineering developed my system design skills. Biomedical Engineering perfectly combines these areas into medical imaging and healthcare technology development.
6. Course Content?
The M.S in Biomedical Engineering at the University at Buffalo is a 30-credit program that includes core subjects such as Human biology for biomedical, biomaterials, medical imaging, and quantitative Analysis. It also offers electives in areas like introduction to M.R.I, Data & image processing, A.I in healthcare, along with a research project or thesis, which provides practical exposure.
7. Course Content?
The 30-credit program involves core subjects/elective specialisation / thesis-from that core subjects would be Human biology for biomedical, medical imaging, biomaterials, and quantitative Analysis / Research methods in biomedical engineering.
8. How it relates?
My background in radiography, physics, and engineering naturally connects to biomedical engineering, as it combines medical imaging knowledge with engineering and system design. Biomedical Engineering allows me to apply my understanding of imaging systems, physics, and engineering to develop healthcare technologies. in this way it relates to my past studies
9. Specialisation?
There are four specialisation tracks and i will have to study subjects under the chosen specialisation
• Imaging & Diagnostics Track - Advanced Medical Imaging/ Image Processing
• bioinstrumentation - Biomedical sensors / instrumentation systems
• Tissue Engineering / Biomaterials - Tissue Engineering / Regenerative Medicine
• A.I in Healthcare - Machine Learning in Medicine / Biomedical Data Analysis
10. challenging subject?
I think Biomaterials might be challenging to me as it focus on polymer science and tissue interaction which needs the understanding of Chemistry biology and I have limited exposure to biochemistry but as this will be important aspect in my studies i would put extra efforts to understand and clear it
11. Extra time to complet?
I have never failed in my curriculum and scored first class every time, I am confident to maintain the same performance over there hence I will not need any extra time to complete my studies.
12. How many universities?
I applied to three universities - University at Buffalo, northeastern university and rowan university.
13. Admits?
I got acceptance from two universities but as my first priority was University at Buffalo, I processed my 120 from this university.
14. Why this University?
Unique features for this program are strong focus on medical imaging systems (M.R.I, X-ray, C.T), Biomedical A.I and computational modelling as well as device development which are key aspects of Modern biomedical studies. Its curriculum involves strong exposure to Bench-to-bedside medical innovations and advanced research under the labs and research centres such as biomedical labs, clinical research centres, which support hands-on learning in areas like medical imaging, biomaterials, and healthcare systems.
It also has dedicated research centres such as the Cell, Gene and Tissue Engineering Centre, which focuses on advanced biomedical technologies.
The program emphasizes real-world healthcare challenges, including disease diagnostics and medical device development, which aligns with my academic background in radiography, physics, and engineering.
Additionally, faculty like Professor Jonathan Lovell works on drug delivery and biomaterials, Professor Ciprian lonita focuses on medical imaging, align with my interests, Hence I choose this university.

21. Why U.S.A?
First world country like U.S.A has all its wings explored and Health science is the area where U.S.A is like mentor to the other nations. The biomedical Engineers of U.S.A have great role in making pulse regulating pacemakers to the easy-to-use glucose meters. U.S.A excels in Biomedical studies since late 1950 and past three decades continued to solidify study of this field when medical imaging soared, Stem cell technology emerged, biocompatible prosthetics and widely used imaging like M.R.I and E.C.G came into stream with the biomedical innovations of U.S.A. I strongly believe that education should be taken from the best environment produces the best results.
22. Why Not Can /A.U.S?
Firstly, it is the fact that U.S.A is the leader in the health studies. When I compared with Canada, I could find very few options of masters in biomedical Engineering and I did not want to compromise with P.G certificate or Diploma. Australia was not in my options at all so I did not search for such options over there. I feel that this is the best choice I could have made.
23. Why not India?
I have completed my bachelors over here in India and I am very well aware of the pattern of studies and the systems. I want to pursue my masters in better education system and strong research study, which can provide me the latest biomedical updates so that I can get the best in my field of studies and help me in shaping luminous career ahead hence I choose U.S.A over India.

On university website I started by my specific program's application page. After creating an applicant account, I filled out the required forms and submitted my initial details. Shortly after, I received an email requesting my supporting documents, including my academic transcripts, letters of recommendation (L.O.R's), and resume.
About a week after submitting these documents, I received my official admission offer letter, I submitted my financial statements to request my I-20 form. The university issued my I-20 about two weeks later, after that I booked my visa interview date.
50. Visa process?
First, I started by filling out my D.S-160 form online. Next, I created an account on the ustraveldocs portal, where I entered my passport details, D.S-160 confirmation number, and sevis information.
Once my profile was complete, I navigated to paid the visa application fee. After the payment, the portal unlocked the appointment calendar. I could find the available dates I booked this date for my interview.
