## Page One

**1.** *6:40 a.m. The newsroom, half-lit, mostly empty. Kicha is already there — sunglasses off for once, which is startling. Three monitors. A notebook. He has been up all night.*

**2.** *Close on his screen: a grainy still, timestamped, from his own camera. Beside it a name written on a Post-it and circled twice.*

**3.** *Suraj arrives at 9, coffee in hand, sunglasses on, in no hurry.*

Keecha *(not looking up)* Rey. Idi chudu.

**4.** *Kicha turns the monitor. Suraj looks at it for a long moment. His face does something it does not usually do — it goes still.*

Keecha Moodu vaaralu ra. Naa daggara footage undi. Naa daggara **peru** undi.

**5.** *Suraj sets his coffee down. Editorial voice, and it's a different voice — flatter, older.*

Suraj Nee daggara **second source** unda?

**6.** *Beat. Kicha doesn't answer.*

Keecha Vasthundi. Naaku rendu rojulu ivvu.

Suraj Rendu rojulu ledu ra.

**7.** *Kicha, still not hearing it.*

Keecha Appudu okka roju—

Suraj **Kicha.**

**8.** *Close two-shot. Two cousins-in-arms at a desk, one of them holding the other's story.*

Suraj Idi **naa** desk kaadu ante nammu. Kaani naa desk lo ne aagipoyindi. Legal chusaru.

Suraj Story… **ledu.**

**9.** *Kicha absorbs it. And then — because he is who he is — nods far too quickly and puts his sunglasses on.*

Keecha Sare. Parledu. Chinna idea eh.

**10.** *He picks up his camera and leaves the frame. Suraj watches him go.*

**11.** *Close on Suraj alone at the desk. He has the face of a man who has decided he will explain properly later, at a better time, when it's easier.*

Caption *(narration, italic)*: He would not explain later.

**12.** *He stands, squares his shoulders, and puts the sunglasses down over his eyes.*

Caption *(narration, italic)*: He would be *entertaining* instead. It was the only other thing he knew how to be.

**13.** *The flat. Anudeep, dressed, at the door with a bag. Aishwarya vaults the rail into frame behind him.*

S.F.X: *thmp.*

Aishwarya Ameerpet aa? Malli?

**14.** *Anudeep, defensive and hopeful at once, holding up a dying laptop with a cracked hinge.*

Anudeep Idi randu vaaralu lo poddi. Applications, coursework, prep — antha deenilo undi.

Anudeep Laptop konali. Tarvata consultancy ki velli visa documents list teesukovali. **Rendu.**

**15.** *Aishwarya is already coming with him. She doesn't ask.*

Aishwarya Nenu vasthunna. Akkade oka new project undi — brochures collect cheyyali.

**16.** *Anudeep blinks.*

Anudeep …nuvvu brochures **enduku**?

Aishwarya *(already walking)* Nenu **ammuthanu** kada ra. Site chudakunda ela ammuthanu?

# ▸ Act Two — Two Days · panels 17 to 40

## Page Five — *the newsroom, Anjaneyulu register*

**17.** *Suraj walks the newsroom aisle in slow motion. Sunglasses. Collar up. He is going to a story meeting about a municipal water schedule.*

**18.** *Nobody looks up. A woman continues stapling.*

Caption *(narration, deadpan)*: Nobody looked up.

**19.** *He arrives at the desk and spins the chair once before sitting.*

Suraj Ippudu… **aata modalu.**

**20.** *Close on his screen. The assignment reads: *"Drainage works — Ward 12 — 40 sec V.O."**

**21.** *Kicha at the far end of the newsroom, alone, doing what he actually does: headphones on, scrubbing through his own footage frame by frame. Sunglasses still on indoors.*

**22.** *Close. He's not deleting it. He's **exporting** it — dragging the file into a folder that is not a work folder.*

*(Two panels. Nobody sees. Move on.)*

**23.** *Pinky crosses behind him, slows, and looks at his screen for exactly one second too long.*

**24.** *Kicha, without turning around:*

Keecha Choodaku.

Pinky *(walking on, unbothered)* Choodaledu.

*She absolutely looked.*

## Page Seven — *Ameerpet, Ala Modalaindi register*

**25.** *An electronics arcade. Narrow aisles, stacked boxes, four shops selling the identical machine at four prices. Anudeep in his element and completely out of his depth.*

**26.** *He has a printed comparison sheet. Aishwarya takes it out of his hand and reads it.*

Aishwarya Nuvvu deeni kosam **spreadsheet** chesava.

Anudeep Comparison sheet.

Aishwarya Adi spreadsheet ra.

**27.** *She hands it back and, without breaking stride, negotiates two thousand rupees off the price in about nine seconds while he is still opening his mouth.*

**28.** *Anudeep, holding the box, mildly stunned.*

Anudeep …nuvvu ela—

Aishwarya Nenu **flats** ammuthanu ra. Idi laptop.

**29.** *A half-built apartment tower. Aishwarya at a sales counter, taking brochures — and asking three sharp questions the salesman clearly wasn't ready for.*

**30.** *Anudeep watching this from the side. This is the first time he has seen her be *professionally* good at something, and it reorganises her slightly in his head.*

**31.** *Walking out. She's flicking through a brochure. He's carrying his box.*

Aishwarya Ee project lo teesukunevallu andaru — pillalni bayataki pampalani.

Aishwarya Prathi okkaru. Same reason.

**32.** *A beat. She says the next part lightly, and it isn't light.*

Aishwarya Nenu roju **veltunna vallaki** illu ammuthanu.

*Anudeep doesn't have an answer. She doesn't wait for one.*

**33.** *Cross-cut, four panels:*

*Suraj standing on his chair to deliver a line about drainage to a newsroom that is not listening.*

Suraj …ee ward, **naa ward!**

**34.** *A tea stall near Ameerpet. Two glasses on a plastic table. Anudeep checking his watch.*

Anudeep Consultancy ki inka time undi. Aaru varaku open.

Aishwarya Appudu kurcho. Chai taagu.

**35.** *Kicha, alone in an edit bay, watching his spiked footage with the sound off.*

**36.** *The tea stall, later. Anudeep looks at his watch again. It is 6:40.*

Anudeep …

Aishwarya *(not looking up)* Repu velthav le.

**37.** *Evening. All four converge at the flat door — Suraj and Kicha from one direction, Anudeep and Aishwarya from the other.*

**38.** *Inside. Bags dropped. Anudeep sets the laptop box down with enormous care and everyone ignores it completely.*

Suraj *(face-down on the sofa)* Naa story ki em annaru telusa? "Please get off the chair."

**39.** *Muddamma's food. They eat on the floor. Jay comes and sits at the edge of the group with a plate — which he has not done before.*

**40.** Wide. Five people on a floor. Full plates. Nothing happening. Kicha hasn't said much all evening and nobody has noticed except Suraj, who has been not-noticing very hard.*

Caption *(narration)*: And then, because nothing was happening, Kicha said the sentence.

**41.** *Kicha sits bolt upright, plate abandoned.*

Keecha Aata adudhama.

**42.** *Groans. He's already up, moving furniture.*

Suraj Vaddu ra—

Keecha **Kallu moosukoni debba.**

**43.** *Beat. Everyone sits up. Even Jay. There is not a single Indian adult who does not know this game.*

**44.** *Kicha lays out the rules with the gravity of a man explaining a heist.*

Keecha Iddaru kallu moosukovali. Vantiki mukham. Migatha vallu venaka nunchi kottali.

Keecha Kotti — **evadu kottado** cheppali. Correct ga cheppthe, swap.

**45.** *Aishwarya rolls up her sleeves, dangerously enthusiastic.*

Aishwarya Nenu venaka.

Anudeep Enduku naaku bhayam ga undi.

**46.** *The draw. **Anudeep** and **Suraj** go first — eyes shut, kneeling, facing the wall.*

**47.** *Behind them: Aishwarya, Kicha, and — after a pause and no explanation — **Jay**, who quietly joins the line.*

**48.** Wide from behind the two kneeling men. Three shadows over them.*

Anudeep Modalupettandi ra, tension ga undi—

**49.** *Anudeep, eyes screwed shut, thinking hard.*

Anudeep …Kicha!

Keecha *(delighted — the first delight of his day)* **Thappu!**

**50.** *Suraj takes one. Guesses instantly and correctly.*

Suraj Aishwarya.

Aishwarya Ela ra?

Suraj Nee debba lo **kopam** untundi.

**51.** *Rotation. Three panels of escalating chaos — hands, laughter, wrong guesses, Muddamma passing through the frame with a vessel and ignoring all of it.*

**52.** *And then Suraj, still kneeling, eyes still shut, has an idea. We watch it arrive on his face.*

# ▸ Act Four — the Second Betrayal · panels 53 to 64

**53.** *Suraj — eyes shut, supposedly a fellow victim — reaches sideways and hits **Anudeep.***

S.F.X: Thwap

**54.** *Anudeep, wildly.*

Anudeep Jay!

**Jay:** *(who has not moved in some time)* Nenu ekkada unnano choodu.

**55.** *Anudeep opens one eye a crack. Jay is sitting down. Six feet away. Drinking water.*

**56.** *Anudeep, rattled, eyes shut again.*

Anudeep …appudu **evadu kottadu?!**

**57.** *Behind him, Aishwarya and Kicha have both worked it out. They stare at Suraj. Suraj, eyes innocently shut, hits Anudeep again.*

S.F.X: Thwap

**58.** *And they join him. A three-way look, no words. **The two behind and the man beside him are now a team, and the man beside him is supposed to be a victim.***

**59.** *Anudeep takes hits from every impossible direction, guessing wildly, the room shaking.*

Anudeep Kicha! …Aishwarya! Mudamma

Mudamma *(from the kitchen, not turning)* Nenu vantalo unnanu ra.

**60.** *Anudeep, at the end of his rope, eyes still honourably shut.*

Anudeep Ee intlo **aaru mandi** unnara?!

**61.** *Kicha, wheezing, holds up his camera — running on the shelf, because it always is.*

Keecha Evidence.

*Hold this panel. Let the pause sit longer than is comfortable.*

**62.** *All of them crowded around the small screen. On it, unmistakably: Suraj, eyes shut, reaching sideways with the precision of a surgeon.*

*Suraj, caught, doesn't deny it for even one second. He stands and takes a bow.*

Suraj **Nene ra.** Nene.

**63.** *Anudeep launches at him. Suraj flees. Twice around the bucket-table, ending with both on the floor, wrecked, laughing too hard to continue.*

Suraj *(gasping)* Rey— nenu **cheppali** anukunna—

Anudeep Eppudu?!

Suraj **Tarvata.** Eppudo tarvata.

*And across the room, Kicha — who has been waiting all day for a sentence that begins exactly like that — looks up.*

*Suraj catches it. The laugh goes out of his face for one panel.*

**64.** Wide. Late. Everyone sprawled where they landed. Aishwarya sideways in a chair, Kicha flat out, Suraj and Anudeep on the floor, Jay against the wall with his water. The unopened laptop box by the door. Plates unwashed. The fan turning.*

*Nobody going anywhere. Nobody doing anything. Just a day, ending.*

Caption *(narration)*: It was a Saturday. Nothing happened.

Caption *(narration)*: It was the best day he'd had in a year, and he didn't notice for another month.
