C.2 *Suraj's hands. He applies a specialised two-thumb technique with the focus of a bomb-disposal expert.*

C.3 *Nothing. He holds it up to the light like a jeweller.*

C.4 *Kicha, behind him, arriving with a solution: a rolling pin from the kitchen.*

C.5 Wide. Both men on the bathroom floor, rolling the tube flat with a rolling pin, in total silence, with total seriousness. Anudeep appears in the doorway holding his own brand-new tube, watches this for three full seconds, and quietly withdraws without a word.*

# ▸ Act One — the Question · panels 1 to 16

## Page One

**1.** *Morning. The kitchen. Muddamma at the stove, entirely in command. Suraj hovering at her elbow like a large hopeful dog.*

S.F.X: *tss— tsss*

**2.** *She points a ladle at Anudeep, who is passing through with a laptop.*

Muddamma Babu. Nuvvu **em thintav**?

**3.** *Anudeep stops. Something behind his eyes closes very slightly.*

Anudeep Aa— **emaina parledu.** Meeru em chesthe adi.

**4.** *Muddamma looks at him for exactly one beat longer than is comfortable. Then goes back to the stove.*

Muddamma …sare.

**5.** *Anudeep at the dining table, laptop open, back to the kitchen. Suraj drops into the chair opposite, backwards, arms over the backrest.*

Suraj Rey. Nijam ga cheppu. **Em thintav?**

**6.** *Anudeep, not looking up.*

Anudeep Emaina parledu ra.

**7.** *Suraj leans in, undeterred, listing options on his fingers with mounting enthusiasm.*

Suraj Pulusu? Fry? Biryani cheppu, ippude order chestha. Chicken? Mutton? Egg? **Egg cheppu, egg easy.**

**8.** *Anudeep gives him a small polite smile — the specific smile of a man closing a door gently.*

Anudeep Nuvvu em thinte adi. Naaku **anni** istame.

**9.** *Suraj slumps, genuinely defeated, cheek on the chair back.*

**10.** *Aishwarya arrives over the balcony rail with a bowl of something. She has clearly been listening for some time.*

**11.** *She sets the bowl in front of Anudeep and sits down across from him with the air of someone opening a case file.*

Aishwarya Naaku oka doubt.

**12.** *Close two-shot. She props her chin on her hand. This is the *Takagi-san* register — she's not interrogating him, she's enjoying him.*

**17.** *Evening. The living room. Kicha stands before a whiteboard he has produced from somewhere, sunglasses on, marker in hand. Suraj sits front row with a notebook. Total commitment.*

Kicha Operation: **Anudeep Em Thintadu.**

**18.** *The board. A flowchart. Actual arrows. Actual branches. Boxes reading Veg / NON-Veg / Tiffin / Allergy / a box just reading Trauma

**19.** *Aishwarya, from the sofa, not looking up from her phone.*

Aishwarya Vaadini adagandi ra.

**20.** *Both men turn to her, appalled at the naivety.*

Suraj Adigamu. **Padi sarlu.**

Kicha Subject is non-responsive. Ippudu **inference** matrame.

**21.** *Jay passes through the room, unhurried, phone in hand.*

**22.** *Close on Jay's screen for exactly one panel. A shift roster. Two columns — Night and Day. His thumb rests on the Day column. He doesn't tap it.*

*(No dialogue. Nobody sees. Move on.)*

**23.** *Suraj grabs his arm as he passes.*

Suraj Jay! Anudeep em thintadu?

**24.** *Jay considers the question seriously, which is more than anyone expected.*

Jay Vaadu ippati varaku ee intlo **evari plate lonchi** kuda thinaledu.

*Beat.*

Jay Adi answer.

*And he leaves. Nobody understands it yet.*

**25.** *Kicha writes Jay's Clue on the whiteboard and underlines it twice, treating it as scripture.*

**26.** *The investigation proceeds. Nine-panel-energy sequence, four panels:*

*Suraj going through the fridge listing everything aloud while watching Anudeep's face in a mirror for micro-expressions.*

Suraj *(watching the mirror)*: …gongura… **gongura?** …ledu. Nothing.

**27.** *Kicha holding up hand-drawn flashcards of food items, one at a time, timing the response with a stopwatch.*

Kicha Dosa. …two point one seconds. Suspicious.

**28.** *Aishwarya, watching all of this from the sofa with her chin in her hand, thoroughly entertained, doing nothing to stop it.*

**29.** *They order food. A lot of it. Six containers arrive.*

**30.** *The table, loaded. All four watching Anudeep like scientists at a feeding trial.*

Suraj Ippudu. Take. **Nuvvu** kavalsindi.

**31.** *Anudeep looks at six open containers. A long, genuinely paralysed beat.*

**32.** *He takes a small amount of the dish closest to him — which is the one nobody else wanted.*

Anudeep Idi bagundi.

**33.** *Suraj puts his head in his hands. Kicha slowly, silently, wipes the entire whiteboard.*

**34.** *Later. The plates cleared. Anudeep at the sink washing up — unasked, again — while the others sprawl in the living room.*

**35.** *Aishwarya appears beside him with a dish towel. Not teasing now. Just there.*

Aishwarya Nuvvu prathi roju idi chesthav. Evaru adagaledu.

**36.** *Anudeep, hands in the water, light and deflecting.*

**40.** *Anudeep alone at the sink. The tap running. Close on his face — the first crack.*

**41.** *Living room, later. Suraj, still gnawing at it, tries once more — gently this time, which is what makes it land wrong.*

**42.** *Anudeep, tight.*

Anudeep Suraj, vadilipettu.

**43.** *Suraj, hurt, and therefore louder.*

Suraj Enduku ra? Nenu **guest** laga treat chestunnanu ani anukuntunnava? Nuvve guest laga behave chesthunnav!

**44.** *Kicha, on instinct, raises his camera to film the argument — and then, unusually, **lowers it.** All the way. Puts it face-down on the table.*

*(Nobody notices. First time he has ever chosen not to.)*

**45.** *And Anudeep, who has been polite for three straight weeks, finally isn't.*

**46.** *Full silence. The fan.*

**47.** *He hears it land. He keeps going anyway, because stopping now would mean admitting it.*

Anudeep Nenu ikkada **temporary** ra. Rendu nelalu. Naa ishtalu, naa items, naa opinions — **idi antha waste.** Nenu velipothanu.

**48.** *Suraj, quietly. Not shouting. Which is worse.*

Suraj …sare.

**49.** *Suraj gets up and goes to his room. The door doesn't slam. It just closes.*

**50.** *Aishwarya stands, picks up her bowl, and looks at Anudeep for a moment.*

**51.** *She goes over the railing. Kicha, alone with him, doesn't say anything. He picks up his camera, still face-down, and leaves it face-down.*

**52.** *Anudeep alone in the living room. Six empty containers. A blank whiteboard.*

**53.** *Night. Anudeep in the store-room, lying on the mattress, staring at the ceiling. Awake.*

Caption (Anudeep): Idi temporary.

*(He has said this for three weeks as comfort. Tonight he used it to hurt someone, and now it won't work for either.)*

**54.** *He hears movement in the flat. Sits up.*

**55.** *He opens his door. The passage. The mandir lamp is lit. And in the kitchen, one light on.*

**56.** *Jay, at the stove, at midnight, cooking something small. He doesn't turn around.*

**58.** *Anudeep looks at it.*

**59.** *Jay sits down opposite with his own plate. Eats. Doesn't look at Anudeep. One sentence, delivered to the table:*

**60.** *Anudeep, very still.*

**61.** *They eat in silence for a while. It is not awkward. It is the first comfortable silence Anudeep has had in this flat.*

**62.** *A door opens down the passage. Suraj, hair flat, half-asleep, drawn out by the smell. He stops when he sees Anudeep.*

*A long beat. Neither of them apologises. This is not a house where anyone apologises.*

**63.** *Suraj gets a plate. Sits down. And asks, flatly, not looking up — the same question for the eleventh time today:*

Suraj Em thintav.

*And Anudeep — quietly, and for the first time in his life without checking whether it's convenient for anyone —*

Anudeep **Gongura.**

*Beat.*

Anudeep Gongura pachadi. Tho annam. Adi naaku ishtam.

**64.** Wide, Still, Quiet. Three men eating at a table at one in the morning. Nobody says anything else. Suraj is smiling at his plate and trying not to.*

*Behind them on the fridge, among Jay's sticky notes, the amended poster from last week: Keep it Clean — adigithe cheptha. Just ask.***

*And from the doorway of the kitchen, unnoticed, Kicha — with the camera down at his side, not raised, watching.*

Caption *(narration)*: It took him three weeks to name one dish.

Caption *(narration)*: Suraj ordered it four times that week.
