Paper2Audio reviews for research

This is the app I've been waiting for since I started in academia. I used to use voice aloud reader for listening to research papers on my commute, but largely gave up a few years ago for various reasons e.g. "1, 1, 1, 2, 2.7 dash 5.094748....." . Now with engaging voices, descriptions of figures, tables, equations I've fallen back in love with TTS, and am constantly absorbing information (my day being interrupted by the school run is much less painful now that I am learning on the way). This is a game changer for me.

Absolutely brilliant! You have made a dream of mine come true that I've had for years – being able to listen to physics research papers while walking or driving, instead of being glued to my screen. Paper2Audio handles complex academic texts flawlessly. The automatic removal of citations and the smooth conversion of formulas into spoken language is incredibly well done.

This is an amazing app for reading research papers. It’s AI can summarise, give you context about why the research is significant or definitions of key terms and concepts. You can choose if the AI does this and at different levels. You can choose different voices for each of these things so as you are listening to the paper you can tell when it is the paper itself or when the AI is giving extra information in order to make it easier to understand. Great for new subject matter. I can listen in the car, and as I can’t google something I don’t understand, the extra information helps me understand it the first time.

The rendering of PDF is the best in its class. I was initially skeptical of the AI substitution of equations and figures, but I have now seen its power when I was trying to listen to a scanned book on the history of thermodynamics. Paper2Audio is perfect for such semi-technical work with a minimal amount of (largely descriptive) equations. This is a book that I would not have time for a second read unless I can play it while commuting. Paper2Audio is perfect for PDF reflowing of scanned pages (e.g. scanned books hosted by Internet Archive). It’s the most comfortable reading experience I had. For scanned PDFs, there are not many options for PDF reflowing, and Paper2Audio is a great solution. … I have been looking for a good solution for scanned books and papers for a long time.… I really want to see your app succeed and help more researchers!

I use it to listen to research papers while I walk or commute, and often pause to highlight parts of the transcript and/or add a note. I also use for simply reading research papers, without the audio, as the text is very clear and easy to read in transcript mode. It makes it easier for me to get through research papers I need to read instead of scrolling on my phone when I have some extra time….I love how the figures also show up in the transcript. It's an amazing app, much better than the other (very expensive) alternatives I've tried.
